We returned the RV on 7/6/2025, with the door lock handle broke. But today it's 10/14/25, I cannot get my insurance deposit back so far! Kate took my call a couple of times and told me she ordered the door handle part for replacement and the deposit return process takes long etc. I did not push her too much, however, it seems not reasonable after 3 months they still hold my deposit. and she reject to reply my message and not pick up my call any more. It's not the right way to do the business. I believe every rental should have the same $1000 insurance deposit, what's your experience to get back your deposit return?

I put "company" in air quotes bc even though it is a business, it didn't feel that way. You can tell immediately this is a personal venture - Clinton was extremely prompt with any communication. We booked through outdoorsy.com and there was a system glitch two days before our arrival so my husband emailed Clinton and he called back very shortly afterwards to explain and confirm our van and dates of reservation. He picked us up at the airport (with a 6 am arrival time no less! He also dropped us off back at the airport) and then took his time to review the contract and functionality of the camper. He was thoughtful and thorough and very responsive. Felt like everything had a personal touch to it and he was honest. The camper is extremely well equipped. Bed is comfortable, and comes with pillows, sheets and an amazing comforter. There are drapes for privacy which was great to block out the night time light (since the sun sets so late here in the Summer; they're not black out drapes and we were told that from the get go. Again, honest owner ) and adds privacy when we parked (drapes blocks out the front and side windows). There is a pump sink, all the major cooking pots and cast iron pan (!), coffee pot, propane portable grill, table for eating inside and folding table for grilling roadside. Large cooler also comes with. Recessed lighting and surround sound with Bluetooth connection means you're one click away from a van party (Seriously. The bass is legit.). Comes with plugs and usb connection and axillary battery to charge all your mobile devices. The van is smooth to drive (okay, I admit, I didn't drive it, but my husband loved it and said it was easy to use and drive). We averaged 25-30 miles a gallon (which is amazing for a van). It was clean, quiet, and totally met and exceeded our needs and expectations! #glamping Hands down if we come back again, we will be looking to rent from Northern Nomads again. They won't leave your stranded. Clinton was telling us how he's looking into a spare van/camper to make sure people who book with him won't be stranded should there be an issue with the van (ex. Tire issue, bull moose crash - these are real examples). You spend a lot of time, money and energy getting to the last frontier, you want to make sure it's a solid trip. Avoid this place! First, they are overpriced - almost every other major car rental company in…read moreAnchorage is cheaper. Second, Cheapwheels forces you to buy their extremely pricey "insurance," which is void if you drive off-road (a problem for a state with so many B&B's that require driving on unpaved roads), and it requires a $1 to $2,000 deductible! No other car rental company requires such an outrageous deductible if you buy their coverage, and every reputable place will have basic insurance built into the rental cost itself. Additionally, Mike and Cindy are extremely shady and unethical businesspeople. Not only did they not explain how minimal their required "insurance" coverage is despite its exorbitant cost, but they also charge a $100 non-refundable deposit, which is unheard of in the car rental industry. This 'deposit' scheme was not adequately explained to me, of course, and was nowhere in writing. My credit card company is now attempting to get the money back after I had to cancel the reservation (after I found out about their shady insurance policy), and it is money that they basically stole.

Avoid Alaska trailer as they can leave you absolutely stranded due to incompetence and unprofessional work, they are lucky I didn't take them to small claims court, very lucky. The job was completed and I made it to the Yukon Territory about 2 weeks later, traveling no more than 65 mph and a wheel bearing burned up. I was in the middle of nowhere, 2hrs from any community. 8 hrs and $900 later I was towed into Whitehorse YT at a shop. 3 days later and $2500 I was back on the road. I tried to get Alaska Trailer to do the right thing and reimburse for the towing, that didn't happen. They did refund for my cost of the one bearing repair but not the towing. If they were a legit, ethical business in Anchorage they would have refunded the towing and their initial fees for doing the crappy, work to begin with. Their work should not be allowed in Alaska and they do not stand behind their work. Get stranded because of them and oh well, not willing to make it right. You have been warned!

They were more expensive than I expected ($150/hr). I don't even think Mercedes techs charge that much, but maybe that is just how RV techs are, and it is normal. They were friendly and the service was good, but they are training front desk people so paying for and picking up the trailer was painfully slow. Otherwise, a good experience. And I think we called and got an appointment the same week, though we had to wait for parts to be ordered, but they worked fast when they could.

This was a our first time sleeping in a rooftop tent and at first I hated it - After three days I LOVED it! So much so that now we're shopping for a RTT of our own. Both the hubby and I have been off-roading in our 1996 Landcruiser so we are very experienced drivers. When we rented Nanook the caster/alignment was off which made driving straight a bit of a challenge. Craig did note the issue as he was driving over to pick us up. We made sure to remind Craig about the issue when we returned Nanook. When you rent these rigs just understand that you're renting the bare minimum when it comes to kitchen setup. No seasonings except salt and pepper, no hot pads, etc. Our rig did not include measuring cups and we were mostly cooking freeze dried meals so we stopped at Target and bought some. When we returned the rig, we left the cups so hopefully the next person who rents Nanook will have measuring cups. Also Nanook's cook set is stainless steel so when you cook eggs in the morning - Good Luck and cleaning... Would have much preferred that the cook set was non-stick but it is what it is. Thankfully we are not big coffee drinkers but the coffee pot they include is too small the large burners on the stove. So we used the pots to boil water for tea and hot coco. Overall renting from Alaska Overlander was an incredible experience and we already want to come back and rent with them again to explore more of Alaska. Alaska Overland is an excellent option when you either can't take enough time off of work to drive your own truck up to Alaska OR if you don't have an off-road truck at all. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Outside of food, beverages and spices the Denali came with everything we needed for an upgraded off road camping adventure. The tent was comfortable and easy to set up along with the awning and it was great having a fridge with its own dedicated power source. Over the course of amazing trip we did not experience any issues and the Denali was a comfortable ride for some of the longer drives. Plenty of outlets and plug options for charging up gear on the road. The staff were super helpful and informative and we even got to use a brand new portable propane fire pit and camper shell. Highly recommended and looking forward to coming back for an even longer road trip.
