We've been to this place a few times already when we crave a good seafood boil. This restaurant is big, has a relaxed vibe and offers bigger tables for a large group. I must say the food is consistently good. We've tried shrimps, mussels and lobster and everything was excellent with the Captain's Boil sauce. Visited The Captain's Boil Vaughan location on a Saturday evening between 5:30-6:00pm and the near-empty dining room should have been my first clue. We were sat, ordered pop, and both drinks arrived in plastic cups. When it came time to order food, my cousin got the Matey's Feast and I built my own boil, choosing one protein (lobster) plus two sides, a sauce flavour, and a heat level. I asked to add crab leg, mussels, and shrimp and was told only one protein is allowed per boil order. The only side options presented to us were hard-boiled egg, potato, corn, and steamed rice, even though the website lists seven. I chose lemon pepper sauce and mild heat, but couldn't taste any lemon in the finished dish. Food came out in plastic bags, as is typical for seafood boils, with small styrofoam plates and plastic cutlery provided on the side. My cousin's Matey's Feast was a massive spread, so big she took leftovers home in containers. My order was the opposite: a small lobster that tasted slightly bitter throughout, including the claws, and seemed overcooked, half a small overcooked corn cob (just the pointed end), and a hard-boiled egg I had to peel myself, also overcooked. The seasoning was so heavy the food was gritty, plus overly salty and greasy. No tools were provided to crack the shell or pick claw meat and when I asked for a nutcracker I was handed small scissors with a tiny, unusable nutcracker built into the handle. The bill made it worse: my meal, drink, tip, and tax came to about $82, while my cousin's full spread came to about $84, almost the same price for wildly different portions. This barely qualified as a "boil." I've had better full platters at Red Lobster for less, and an excellent boil at Robot Boil for around $100 that was genuinely worth it. If they want to improve, they need to offer a real build-your-own boil experience: the option to add extras like vegetables, shrimp, mussels, or other proteins to a platter, and actually offer the full range of sides listed on their own website rather than a shortened in-person selection. Real plates and real utensils would go a long way too. This was my first and last visit to The Captain's Boil. read more

The inside is spacious with good decor and cleanliness. The Deep-fried Calamari was amazing! The batter was crunchy, and the calamari was juicy inside - totally beyond my expectations. The Shrimp Basket was good too. It was crunchy on the outside, but the batter was a bit thick. The Cajun fries were delicious as well. The lobster was meaty, with lots of tender, juicy meat under the shell. It was well-seasoned too. Service was good. The seafood came in a platter rather than baggies. We also added noodles with the captain boil sauce too. The noodles came in a bag. We ordered two! And it was $6.99 each. The seafood didn't particularly stand out to me, my favourite would be the crab legs. The noodles were okay but a bit over priced for what it was. Overall it was a good experience to check out. I came on a weekday during lunch hour. It was my first experience and i truly enjoyed it with my husband. It was funnt because he was shocked the food came in a bag and you wear a bib and gloves. There is also a bin to put your garbage in. It was funny seeing bis expression. but we had a great time.. he chose the garlic flavour and it was alright..I let him try my Cajun 1lb mix chicken and shrimp and we have to agree my flavour was best. The prices are listed on a board on the wall. we had mixed half lvbs chicken and half lb shrimps. It was good for $18 that day. The service was good it was quiet when we went and honestly portions are good. we ate at 12 and were still full at 5pm. The corn is delicious I wish you got more pieces. also i had the potatoe which was nice and jucy also the rice is fluffy and white. Daaaaa'aaaaam!!!!! What a place. It really doesn't matter which of their seafood bakes you pick, you can't go wrong!!! My personal favorite sauces are the garlic (and it is definitely heavy on garlic) and the Cajun sauces. Those are ridiculously awesome!!! Also add some heat. We went with medium and it was on the light side for me. Next time I'll go hot. We sampled the king crab, dungenous crap, crawfish and shrimp bakes. First time trying captains boil and I think i have one of my new favourite restaurants! I'm a big fan of Cajun so the cajun fries definitely hit the spot. We ordered the Crawfish, King Crab legs, and the clams. The Crawfish wasnt as good as the ones in the one in Vegas but these were definitely good. The King Crab legs tasted fresh and not overly salty like the frozen ones you find at a grocery store. Teh clams were also great, they absorbed the stock and had an amazing kick. I'd def come again! A couple of months ago i went to a captains boil for the first time, the food and the experience was outstanding and i had to go back. I came back to the captains boil but this time a different location. The food really is out of this world, all of the flavours are right on and give the customer the option to choose from so many different things. The customer can choose the type of meat they want between crab, muscles clams etc, the flavour if they want more of a plain flavour like a lemon or a mix of everything called captains boil lastly you can also choose the spice that you want on your meat. The food all comes in plastic backs and you east with you hands. All of the seafood was cooked very well and we loved our captains boil snow crab and our garlic muscles. The only thing that was a slight disappointment to this location was the service. The waitress was very nice don't get me wrong but wasn't really sure what was going on. She had to come over and show us the receipt to make sure she had everything we ordered and had to come back later asking us what we were missing... We only ordered 3 things. The food is really oily which makes it hard to be the only thing you eat in a night, as it goes right through your body. Overall the captains boil is a great restaurant for a night out. This is my second Captain's Boil location visit and fourth seafood-boil type restaurant since discovering them in Toronto. It was just amazing! The Captain's seasoning, which is a combination of all of the options, is addictive. If you're so inclined you might even want to order some garlic bread and sop up some of the deliciousness! For us it's shrimps, clams, snow crabs, and lobster. In the future we'll give the king crab a try too. The lobster bisque was very good but in the presence of the intense flavor of the seafood almost tastes bland by comparison, though on its own I doubt that would be the case. YUMMY!! Captain's Boil has multiple locations across the GTA - this restaurant in particular is just across from Vaughan Mills. It was the perfect place for us to relax & unwind after doing some major shopping therapy! The lunch menu wasn't very big so it didn't take us long to make up our minds - we decided to go with two fish teriyaki sizzling plates (one with lemon zest mixed with black pepper and the other with roasted garlic with melted butter; both non-spicy). Our server offered us these cute bibs so they could prevent sauce from getting on our shirts. They also have these washing stations in the middle of the restaurant so you can easily wash your hands during your meal without going to far from your table. Pretty thoughtful I thought! Our food came and boy were we surprised! They came with crawfish, shrimps, clams, mussels and and fried fish as well as rice drizzled with the sauce of our choices. Not bad at all for $10.95!! I liked the lemon & black pepper the most - the lemon bought out the freshness of the seafood and the pepper added a slight kick to balance everything out nicely. Service was excellent! We went there as a group of 8, then the receptionist told us that we will be charged 15% additional because of their group policy (greater than 6 people). So i told them ok we will just sit on different tables so it will be less than 6 and also pay different tabs so we cannot be classified as a group, she then told us we cannot do that as she already saw as a group of 8! WTH what on earth did I just heard???! Told her that's not fair, why do you even care if you saw as a group?? I can even ask half our group to re-enter the door so they will not consider us a a group! The receptionist then called for the worst manager of all time! She started shouting and asking what's the problem and all, hahaha this is seriously messed-up restaurant and management. No customer service etiquette! So if you don't want to ruin your day, don't ever go to this location. I will report this to Consumer protection, and i will not stop until this Manager get dismissed! read more

The captain's boil is messy, flavourful, and a fun experience. The concept of this primary seafood based restaurant is simple; pick your seafood (you're charged by the weight) and your flavour and your spiceness level. It comes served to you in a clear bag, which you have to dig in yourself (hence, the messy part). The bag contains all the spices and flavour, so you're given gloves and a cute bib to wear so you don't stain your clothes (believe me, this happens even with the bib on). It's fairly expensive and if you're not there with a small group (e.g. 2 people), you end up order just some of the items on the menu. The flavour can get kind of boring after eating the same thing, so be sure to add some side dishes. Personally, I don't think it makes the $$ worth it I would recommend coming for lunch, when they have their lunch special which is the "SIZZLING PLATE COMBO" *A choice of Teriyaki rice served with our seafood assortment* Teriyaki: Fish Teriyaki or Chicken Teriyaki and Seafood Assortment: 2 Crawfish 2 Mussels 2 Shrimps 2 Clams. It's less than $15 from what I remember (but not very filling). Service was good. The competition for seafood boils is heating up near Vaughan Mills, first with the opening of Boiling Harbour and now with Captain's Boil. Captain's Boil is located next to Yang's Teppanyaki, for those like me who circle around trying to find this place. I ordered the shrimp and the mussels in garlic sauce. It didn't take too long for the piping hot food to arrive. Both the shrimp and the mussels were tasty, pretty much the same size as at Boiling Harbour. However, I liked the flavor of the sauce more at the Captain's Boil. It's less oily. There is definitely less sauce here than at Boiling Harbour, which is great if you don't want to drench your gloves in the sauce, but not great if you enjoy drinking the sauce. You're not provided with a bucket for shells, but asked to leave them on the table. I found that to be unpleasant. The wait staff was super attentive. I was able to get water refills regularly. They kept asking if I needed anything and how things were going, to the point that a number of them asked one right after the other. read more

LO AND BEHOLD, on my way to BP in front of this plaza, I saw a flashing OPEN sign at The Captain's Boil and figured that since I was dining in anyway, I may as well try this place I've been putting off. I entered the storefront, and there was no reception at stand. I wasn't even sure if I was hallucinating because I didn't see anyone inside when I was looking in from outside. However, once stepping in, a young gentleman named Kyle welcomed my sister and I to The Captain's Boil, and seeing how it was our first time there, he explained how the menu worked. My sister ultimately ended up buying the lunch specials, which are sizzling hot plates. I tried Fish in Captain's Boil flavour - Mild, and she tried Chicken in Captain's Boil flavour - Medium. Both were listed as $10.95. I also ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries for $5.95. My sister's dish arrived first, then my fish and fries came shortly after. We were the only table eating in, but hey, fast service so ;) The fries were super crunchy and a good amount of sweet. I also think it was a fair portion for the price tag. I then put on my gloves and gave it a go at the seafood. I. LOVED. IT. The sauce/flavour started to feel heavy (fatty) near the end of my meal, but I guess that's part of the deal. I also tried my sister's chicken. I prefer the fish a lot better because it has a crunch to it. I should mention that crawfish was supposed to be included in the lunch special, but it's a seasonal item. Since we didn't get our crawfish, we got 3 of every other seafood item that came with the lunch special. I'm normally not a fan of oysters but the oysters here had an UMF to them. Deeeelicious. Hands down gotta be one of the better seafood boils location in the City. The service was on point 100% not to mention fresh seafood made to order. If you haven't been to a seafood boil yet, this place is the place to go. This location is much bigger than its sister locations Yonge St. or College St. - they also went all out on decor and even have a bar area. You can watch the ball game or a hockey game while eating delicious seafood boils and washing it all down with a cold one. The Captain's Boil franchise is already great, but this location is also run by a great family - yup most of the staff are family. This is why their service is top notch. Note worthy: they have a washing station in the middle of the restaurant. Excellent idea for those people like me who do not like gloves or bibs - wash your hands right near your table instead of going all the way to the washroom. Plenty of parking in the plaza. This place is my go to for when I'm craving seafood boil. The service: Very friendly, the vibe I get from this place is family oriented. There wasn't a set server for each section of the restaurant like how it is with traditional restaurants. Everyone just works together which is pretty nice. The food: My go to here is snow crab legs. I normally don't eat seafood except for the occasional craving of snow crab legs. I typically get 1lb snow crabs in mild captains boil sauce and an order of fries to share. After receiving our food, Daniel even helped show us how to remove the shells and eat the crawfish as it was my first time! Not gonna lie, I've sad to admit I've been missing for so long. My mom had the same, but with fish and the Captain's boil sauce, which after tasting the cajun, was good, but some what mediocre, and my dad had the crawfish with the captains boil sauce, with corn and potatoes. We were just going to grab a quick bite and drive back home. We parked Infront at 9:15pm and we had every intention to apologize for the late arrival. Our rule was never to enter if they were closing within 30 mins. We worked in resturants before and understand. The second we walked in, we were greeted by a miserble look from the older lady with glasses. She sounded annoyed and I couldn't hear what she said to me so I assumed she told us to go to a clean table. I walked over and she seems even more annoyed and said "sweety, I said I'm cleaning the table for you just wait." So rudely. At that point I was like okay it was more than three times she was rude so we will just leave. While she was cleaning the table, the couple beside the booth where she was cleaning said they wouldn't stay if she talked like that to them, I agreed and left. We wanted to treat ourselves to a nice dinner and feeling stupid about apologizing for the late arrival when the whole encounter was just so rude and unpleasant. I don't understand why would you work at a restaurant if you do not have the patience or the right attitude. Many captain boil establishments closed down and what most people do not understand is that the customers help make the business successful. Oh, another great seafood place! I stopped in for lunch on my way to Chatime (yes, almost every day) and I wanted something different. Normally I just go straight to the King Crab Legs, but for lunch? Too much garlic before afternoon meetings. On the lunch menu they had a Lobster Roll, so I gave it a try. Done as a typical example, with lobster stuffed into the sliced top of a hot dog style bun, it was a nice meal, especially when I was nowhere near Massachusetts. The only problem is, when I eat seafood, I like a lot of it. A Lobster Roll is a nice snack, but not hefty enough for a busy afternoon. It was my first time eating here and I was pretty excited! We came here for dinner on a weekday and it was surprisingly quite busy. We wanted to try the lobster roll and got the bisque combo for just an extra $2. The roll was pretty good but the bisque was too sweet for my liking. Next we had the 1/2 lb wings which my partner really liked (much to his surprise). We dipped them in the Captain's Boil sauce that we got with our clams, and it was so tasty!
