*WARNING- LONG WAIT** I unfortunately didn't read all the reviews before arriving, and came here hungry. After looking around,seeing quite a few people here and most without food were the red flags. Then the news came we didn't wanna here ''Sorry to tell you, your food will be about 30-40 minutes delayed. " It was more of an hour. Most people that were waiting walked out. The young lady at the front did her best to accommodate us by apologizing, giving us a free cobbler and juice for the little one. We ordered a few different things: fried whole wings, dirty rice, yams, cabbage, mango habanero wings, fries, red beans and rice and Kool-aide. The fried wings, rice, fries and cabbage were well seasoned- you could taste the butter in them. My son wasn't crazy about the red beans n rice or mango habanero wings. He said it was more beans than rice and the wings lacked flavor. The Kool -aide was super sweet (as expected), but I added water to make it more palatable. I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door. It took me a minute to review their menu because they offer so many delicious options! Once I was sure of what I wanted, I ordered at the counter and it didn't take very long for them to prepare my order to go. Once your order is ready, they open the container in front of you so that you can see what you ordered and confirm it's correct. They then give you your container and let you bag it yourself with all of the condiments you could think of. The dining area is small and cozy and very clean! I ordered the fried catfish & two sides. I had the mac n cheese and greens. All of it was delicious! The fish was fried fresh and seasoned really well. The mac n cheese was cheesy and had a great flavor. The greens were also very delicious. I found this on yelp, the 5 stars intrigued me. I pulled up and met Mr Skip. A very funny guy, who aided me through picking something good to eat. Customer service is spot on. The cornbread was fluffy, so light and buttery and melts in your mouth. The turkey necks were really good. Cabbage and Mac were solid. I will definitely be back to get something different. This has become my go-to place to take friend visiting from out of town. This place is what starts their trip off with 5 stars. The food is phenomenal. The service is personable. The aesthetic is cute and homey. I found this place on Yelp (of course) and the high rating instantly drew me in. It is so rare to find a place with a 4.9 rating with more than a handful of reviews so I had to try this place. The last time I went, I had the smothered porkchops with cornbread dressing and mac and cheese. The porkchops were so tender that I could cut through them with a fork, snd they were so flavorful that the didn't need to be drowned in gravy! My first bite of the cornbread dressing transported me back to my childhood like the food critic in Ratatouille. The mac in cheese was heavenly. Ir came with a square of cornbread that was buttery and sweet, just the way I love my cornbread to be. When I placed my order at the counter, the gentleman manning the front if the house informed me that the porkchops weren't quite ready. I told him I was fine with waiting and the wait was worth it! Food is good but the attitude is bad. I love the fact that it's black owned and in an area that I'm familiar with. It's a hidden gem and alot of folks wouldn't know it was there. I've had almost everything on the menu and was never disappointed. I believe if you're a first time customer you get a free dessert. I'm not sure what happened from the first visit but customer service went downhill. The husband whose co-owner to his wife is very rude and argumentive. His wife on the other hand I thought was a sweet woman. She's something else to and after my last visit I was told don't come back here. I ended up ordering Fried Ribs, Mac and Cheese, and Yams and my fiance got Fried Catfish, Mashed Potatoes, and Fried Corn. Since everything is fresh, and not "sitting up under them heat lamps"-the owner, we did wait about 30-40 minutes for both of our plates but I was practically jumping for joy when the plates came out. The owner hand delivered our boxes and we were so excited. It came with a piece of cornbread, that was genuinely the lightest piece of cornbread I've ever had. It had an essence of poundcake without being overly sweet but definitely addicting like crack fr! My fiance and I always share food so I got a piece of catfish and it was THEE best seasoned catfish I've ever tasted...I really wanted us to switch plates fr. Now the sweet potatoes weren't as sweet as I like them, but I have a sweet tooth so that's on me, but they were freshly peeled (the owner assured me) and not canned which I could definitely tell. I was disappointed because Good Eats was not open at 7:50am on 5/21/25 am& it was still not open at 925am when I departed. Their website and Yelp's site advertise their opening as 7:00a. I WAS excited about trying this place out. I depend on Houston's Metrolift to get me around Houston so I had to wait around until Metrolift was scheduled to come back to pick me up. Luckily the gas station across from Good Eats has a restaurant inside with a small sitting area. I enjoyed two breakfast tacos and a drink at the gas station. First off I love soul food, and having tried many soul food restaurants I must say this is the best I've ever had! I had the fried chicken wings with Mac and cheese, collard greens, and mashed potatoes. Everything on the plate was absolutely delicous! The wings were perfectly cooked and seasoned to the bone. The Mac and cheese was tangy, creamy, and had the perfect texture. The collard greens had tons of flavor and a generous amount of tasty meat inside as well. The mashed potatoes were so buttery and creamy. I had the privilege of meeting the owners Skip and Pam. What a delightful and kind couple they are. Pam is the chef, and she truly cooks with love.
