I sent my sister to buy 6 pounds of prepared carne ranchera as soon as the market opened for our Fourth of July barbecue later that day, expecting fresh, good-quality meat. Unfortunately, the meat looked like it had been left over from the previous day. It was also packed with excessive fat. After trimming it, we were left with only about 2 pounds of actual meat from the 6 pounds we purchased. This was a huge waste of money and very frustrating, especially for a holiday gathering. We heard about the $55 TikToc deal and decided to drive from Rancho PV alllll the way to El Monte and it was worth the drive. This meat market doubles as a store and they sell food as well. But we went for the meat pack. We got asada, chicken & chorizo, tortillas & cheese for $55! When we walked in we went straight to the meat counter and told them we wanted the TikTok promo. My family wanted to come over to our house to have a taco night. They brought carne asada to our home and chose this place for the meat. We got rice, beans, carne asada, and al pastor. The rice and beans were made with manteca, which was delicious, but could definitely cause heart palpitations with all the oil that was in it. The carne asada was reasonably priced at $11.99, but the marinade was not my fave unfortunately. I thought it was actually lacking flavor. Today my man went and picked up 3 Cornish hens...they were sour and smelled awful All I suggest is that you smell your meat and take a good look at it before purchasing. Whenever I go camping/bbq I buy about 10lbs and everyone always asking where I got it from. Prepandemic they would have chips and salsa for the customers to try while you're waiting for them to package your meat. Their chips are great along with their salsa. My family has been going to Los Torros for years. The last time I went the carne asada was 12.99 a lb and now it's is $14.99 a lb that is ridiculous. That is the price Costco offers USDA prime rib for. Carne asada is literally not the best part of the cow meat, although since it is so popular markets like this one decide to gauge the prices. On top of it all I recently found out why it taste so great the seasoning they use has MSG in it. This makes your brain think that the food is delicious. So never again will I eat their prepared meats not only because if the ridiculous prices but because they also use MSG. Their mild salsa is very good as well with a mild smokey flavor from the roasted chilies they use. Honestly I can eat an entire jar of salsa by myself in one sitting- it's that good! Their chips if you don't mind lard frying are very good as well. The carne asada is a go-to for my fiance. I personally enjoy the split cornish game hens they have. Roasted on the BBQ it's an amazing treat. I have been putting off writing a review until a funny thing happened to us over the weekend. Recommended by a friend to try this place. Ordered al pastor and salvadoran sausages at the meat counter. This young man was very nice. Had my 9 year old twins with me and as they normally do, they pick up the items and put them into the shopping cart but his time we had no cart. They then both carried them to the front and proceeded to walk out the door. Before I could tell them to bring it to the register, the female cashier started to scold them. They apologized and proceeded to place the items at the end of the register and then she tells them..."You need to pay. Come over here and put it here (front of the register)." Seriously?
