On a hot day, Poke for dinner sounds like a great idea! After browsing the menu outside, I decided to go in and place a to-go order. I admire the high ceilings, open space and pretty wall murals as soon as I entered. If I wasn't so tired and have a 30 min drive home, I would have dined in and enjoy the atmosphere. To play it safe, I went with the popular Triple Sashmi Sushi Wrap (aka Sushi Burrito...lol). It has Tuna, Salmon and Albacore and a bunch of toppings. The burrito was tightly wrapped and not messy. The fish and ingredients are fresh. I wish there was more sauce or an option to have extra sauce on the side. I couldn't taste the unagi or spicy mayo. Good fish to rice ratio. The staff was nice and service was quick. Next time if I'm in the area, I'll try the Poke Bowls. read more

The review is more for the kindness! I came in late like 15 minutes before closing and they took me in. I know it's a little taboo and not the best to do but I was craving poke and miss it from back home. For the nay sayers, yes they are still open but it's common decency not to just come in right before closing, and being in the industry and former manager, I was hesitant but thankful they let me place an order. The food was okay, each individual item was absolutely fresh. Idk if something was off or I'm just spoiled from Poké in SoCal. Maybe not enough sauce? I enjoyed it and would definitely go back again. Good Friends remains as one of my top poke places and I'm happy this new location opened up! Parking is much easier here and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered the Tropical Style Poke Bowl which is an extra $4.50 but was totally worth it! They give you a bigger bowl for it. I got the Traditional Salmon and Furikake Bomb Ahi with white rice. My partner got poké bowl with California Salmon and Spicy Ahi protein with cucumber and surimi crab + unagi sauce! Everything tasted so fresh and delicious! The staff were pleasant and our order came out in less than 10 minutes. One thing to note is that you order first before they make your bowl! I love this place, but why are the portions getting smaller and smaller every time? I think increasing the price and keeping the original portion size like when they first opened would be a better route. The teriyaki broccoli tofu bowl is great because it includes 5 pieces of hella good tofu, but it lacks the satisfaction you get from the variety the mango bowl offers. Tips for first timers - parking is shared, no time limits. It can get busy because of the newness of everything, but you'll find a spot. - spend the buck to get three slices of crispy tofu. - if you like more spicy mayo or teriyaki sauce, they are super cool and will give you a side sauce. You order at the counter here in a "build your own bowl" style with tons of fresh bases and mix-ins to choose from. Not quite Chipotle-style, but more of a point and "that looks good" style. They have a portion of the menu marked "Vegetarian" which is honestly super unusual for a poke house. Usually, nobody thinks "vegetarian" when you mention poke, but their crispy fried tofu is so frickn good. Mango Avocado Bowl ($14.94, Grade A+) Highest of recommendations. But always spend the extra dollar for 3 of the best pieces of fried tofu you'll ever have. Hands down the best in town--the only thing that even rivals it is their other location a few miles away! I am a huge fan of good friends and wanted to try out their new location. It is located in a super lively plaza with many other restaurants. It wasn't hard to find parking around 7pm. I liked the parking here, lots more to park here especially if you go early, now to the food! We ordered the Poke Bowls with White Rice, and our two proteins were the California Salmon- I love how fresh the fish were, well seasoned, and the loaded toppings was free for the first 50 customers, so we were able to try the Tropical Style Toppings: Seaweed salad, cucumbers, surimi crab, wonton chips, avocado, masago, furikake, spicy mayo, and unagi sauce. Quite possibly the best poke place I've been to. When I entered the place was clean, the menu was clearly visible, and when I went to order, there staff helped me out and even allowed me to taste their different fish flavors! Fair warning: their bowls are REALLY BIG. I ordered their normal sized poke and was barely able to finish it. While it says the bowl is ~14 dollars, to fill it up you'll have to spend another 4 dollars to make it around 18 bucks total. I'd suggest for a smaller meal to get their mini poke bowl as that one is 4 dollars cheaper, and still relatively filling read more

The food is always great, and the downtown location never disappoints. The staff there are friendly, efficient, and easy to work with. But the newer spot at the Davis Collection is honestly hard to go to. It is not even about the food, it is the experience. Some of the employees come off as straight up rude. I understand food service can be stressful since I have worked in it myself, but there is a difference between having a bad day and consistently having an attitude. There is one employee, Kamea? with curly hair, and I have had three interactions with her. Every single one was unpleasant. It has gotten to the point where I feel uncomfortable going in, which sucks because I actually really like your poke. Everyone else I have interacted with there has been super nice, so it really stands out. I am hoping this can be addressed, because I should not feel like I cannot go into a place I enjoy because of one person. read more

Happy to have this location nearby. I've been to Good Friends Poke before and came in knowing what I wanted -- the Hawaiian Spicy Chicken. One small thing I noticed: the color looked more orange than the red I was used to, which gave me a moment of pause. Same great taste though, so whatever they're doing is working. The place wasn't as busy as I'd expect for the quality, but I suspect that's timing more than anything. Hope they get the traffic they deserve -- I'd hate to see a good spot struggle to find its footing. Two things I'd love to see: outside seating with some shade. The area is very sun-exposed in the afternoon, and right now it's not a great spot to sit with a dog. I've actually walked over with mine and went somewhere else when I saw there was nothing outside. Add some umbrellas and this place becomes a regular stop for me. Parking in the lot can be tight depending on the time of day -- worth keeping in mind. Highly recommend if you're nearby.
