The beans were served blistered and a bit too oily for my liking, lots of onions which I don't care for, and added chicken for my protein. It comes with a large portion of rice and fresh broccoli. We also tried pork lumpia on the daily special menu - 6 for $6 - very flavorful, tightly wrapped and served with a sweet dipping sauce. My dining partner ordered honey walnut shrimp. It was a generous portion of fried shrimp but did not include walnuts. They added them in when we brought the error to their attention. Revisited Open Rice Kitchen recently and overall, it was a decent experience. The atmosphere is casual with plenty of open seating, which makes it easy to find a spot even during busier hours. We ordered at the counter, and the boba drinks came out pretty quickly. I had the milk tea, and you can definitely taste the powder in it. It wasn't the smoothest, but given how affordable the drinks and food are, it's hard to complain too much. Our food was also served fairly fast, but there was an issue with my friend's order. It was incorrect a couple of times, so she ended up getting her meal much later than the rest of us; hence, why I took off a star. One of my favorite restaurants in Davis! They've kept their prices affordable for years and offer such great food. I know not everything on their menu is perfect, but I've always loved pan-fried noodles with the soft scrambled egg, their milk teas, and any of their chicken wings (although Thai chili is the best one). Whenever I need a pick-me-up meal, I come here for the pan-fried noodles I love so much. With my most recent visit, I ordered my usual pan-fried noodles with chicken and Thai chili chicken wings, while my husband ordered the classic fried rice with beef. You already know that I loved my order, although the noodles were a little bit more soggy on top than usual but still perfectly pan-fried on the bottom. My husband didn't enjoy his fried rice that much, but if it was me I would have either ordered their kimchi fried rice or pork belly fried rice instead. Definitely order the Nutella wontons. I was about to leave a good review again because I came the other day for a chocolate milk tea with boba and I wasn't overcharged (they did what their special days milk tea $2.50 with first topping free). However, I came back today and ordered the same thing (just lychee jelly instead of boba, which I recommend) and asked for light ice. The person ringing me up told me light ice costs $.50. What?? I've never heard of a place doing this. Plus, it's such a gimmick to charge for this because how much ice you get in your drink completely depends on the person making it - some people put a lot and some people put a reasonable amount even when it's normal ice. The chocolate milk tea with lychee or chocolate milk tea with boba are soooo yummy if you like chocolate but the light ice charge was just weird. There is a small and awkward parking lot next to the restaurant, but it is a pretty busy area, so parking is hit or miss - I was lucky and snagged the last spot in the lot. Not much service - it is an order at the counter and wait for your food to be called out, then pick up your food at the counter kind of spot. I was hoping to order ahead to avoid any long lines, but I could not find any options to do so - the line to order was not too bad on a weeknight and the wait for my order was about 20 minutes. I ordered a classic fried rice with chicken as my protein - I was stoked that they had jasmine milk tea on the menu, so I ordered that with boba as well. Since it was my first time here, I tried asking questions about their fried rice, but the employee working the register could not really answer my questions, she even asked the 2 cooks and they couldn't answer my questions either - I asked simple questions like what style of beef they use, etc. Good portions, especially at that price point (a little over $11 for both the fried rice and boba drink) - I received a decently big portion of fried rice and a jumbo cup of milk tea. The fried rice was not bad for the price, but it was super greasy / oily that it started to make me feel sick after only eating half of it and the chicken chunks were pretty dry. Milk tea was a bit watered down with a bitter aftertaste to it, while the boba was a bit melty, it was overall chewy, but semi-tough in the middle of the boba. I'm disappointed that it is now increasingly expensive for what the food is, mid but filling fried rice meals with very little protein. I would have given them a 4 back in the day and a 3 nowadays.
