I opted for a bento box with teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu. It came with some fun sides including a salad, some kind of pickled veggies, and a tempura type of side. I was really impressed with the chicken teriyaki and katsu! They were both very flavorful and the portions were great. I was able to share with my family and they enjoyed it, too! I was in the area and wanted some late lunch. I found this place open in a strip mall down the street. It had some good reviews so I figured we would try it out. The lot wasn't that big and we had to park a little ways away but got some shade for the car which was great. It was almost 3PM so I was surprised that this place was open. It's a nice size place with sushi bar to the left and a small dinning area and a bigger one to the rights. We were welcomed and seated in the middle dinning area. There were only one other couple in this section. When I go to a new sushi place I always get the Chirashi Sushi so I can see how the fresh sushi is and I like that selection. It was a lot, almost 44 bucks which is expensive for that dish. Plus I wasn't really that hungry. I didn't know when I would be back in the area so I just went for it. The wife decided on a Bento box with two items. the Tonkatsu and the Agedashi tofu. This place has one of those delivery robots from Japan and it was neat to see it bring the food to people. Here you don't grab it yourself like other places. The server grabs it and puts it on your table in front of you. It has a melody playing the entire time to let you know it's coming out. When my Chirashi came out , it looked amazing. It sure was extra and thus the price. It was 16 pieces of sushi and 2 pieces Tamago or egg. The Amaebi or raw shrimp came with a fried shrimp head on top and then the shrimp on the bottom. Really excellent presentation. They really thought about it. They even had the real Wasabi, which is the only one I eat. The little touches were appreciated. It was a lot of sushi Now my wife's Bento box was thoughtful too. It was a lot of food. It came with a fried pepper stuffed with crab. Something that I have never seem. It was spicy and the wife couldn't eat it. I was too stuffed with my food to taste it. In the corner of the box had pickled Vegis which don't often come in the box. Plus they had like a yam or sweet potato dip with I think Taro chips. Unique but the chips were stale. This place is not all you can eat. This place does not do poke. This place does not serve boba take and popcorn chicken. And this place is not cheap. That is exactly why you come here for a birthday dinner for the waifu. Bc only this place is deserving of the waifu. If you want to make your wife get high quality sashimi, then come for the sashimi salad and the chirashi. It's enough for you the waifu and the annoying child who wants to try sashimi but does not actually eat it. It's also got bentos for the kid who doesn't eat sushi. The huku ramen is just ok. That may be the only item that isn't worth it. But everything is! We came for a birthday dinner so Huku was nice enough to give us a birthday dessert. I don't come here often enough. Located in a plaza with plenty of parking spaces and other establishments to check out, so parking shouldn't be an issue. Plenty of seats, tables, and booths to be seated at. Service was excellent. Our waitress did mix up my order with one of my friend's but that was easily resolved between ourselves. The food is delicious and has huge portions! I was surprised at the amount of food but it was very filling and not too heavy. I got the tempura dinner set and I did end up having leftovers. The restaurant is decently clean and welcoming. I was pretty surprised by the fact that they have robots assisting the servers. Workers put food onto the robotic assistant, which has several shelves, then it rolls over to your table. It was always accompanied by a human staff member, so I did not worry that anything would go wrong. I also thought this was very cute since the robot beeps a little greeting at you. Still the best quality sushi dishes in/around Davis, but wouldn't come back at these prices. 3 item bento is now $36. That is crazy. In a upscale place in the Bay, it'll be like $25. The salmon teriyaki was bigger than expected, but still. Came with little sides, such as creamy sweet potato mash and plantain chips, but was a bit off in the details. Chips were stale, teriyaki sauce was extremely thick and tasted like BBQ lays chips. Miso soup that came with it had 2 of the smallest cubes of tofu, was pretty salty and sweet. Carrots that came in the side salad tasted like they had sat a while. Salmon skin roll was quite good, well fried crunchy skin, but $14 compared to closer to $11 at most other places. Food is amazing here. Definitely a little pricey but worth every penny because the quality is unparalleled. I got a sashimi platter which is nicely curated by the chef. The presentation is beautiful and the fish is so fresh. For main, I have three sets of nigiris. Hotate, scallops, is so tender and sweet. Ankimo, monkfish liver, is creamy and flavorful. Tamago, egg, is savory and sweet. Everything was delicious! Their rolls and other entrees are delicious as well. I love coming here for a sushi treat dinner. read more

This is one of our favorite sushi places in Yolo county. It has amazing sushi, great quality sashimi, and a nice variety on the menu. The price is that of a higher end sushi restaurant, which it is. The servers have always been helpful and pleasant. The only difficult scenario we had was on a holiday when they said it would be an hour to be seated and we never got to dine. I'm sure we weren't the only ones, lesson learned on trying to walk in on Father's Day! We love the pot stickers, bento box, all of the sashimi (I've tried many of them here and the large assorted sashimi is worth the price). There was a coupon for $10 off $60 or $20 off $90 in the weekly mailer and so my bf and I decided to check this place out for our monthiversary. Came around 3PM on a weekday. Not busy at all. Very cozy, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. We were seated right away and within 5-10 minutes our orders were taken. We wanted to splurge so we ordered a dozen oysters that were already topped with things ($30), 2 miso soups ($2.50 each), a Lion King roll, a Blooming roll ($19) and a Sunshine roll ($18?). Everything came out so fast! First the miso, then the oysters, then all the rolls. My boyfriend really liked the Lion King roll. It's flavorful but I don't care much for baked rolls. My favorite was the Blooming roll followed by the Sunshine. Packed with so much flavor, beautifully plated, and a good portion. I don't think I even properly chewed my food because it was that good, I was just scarfing it all down. Everything came out to over $90, but with the coupon it was brought down to about $75. Would absolutely return here. My only gripe is that the rolls are crazy expensive. Still a great treat though, and soo close to where I live. read more

First time dining here with the fam driving from Elk Grove, and with the recommendation from an aspiring soon-to-be med student who joined us as well, I must say the dining experience was second to none. I rarely post reviews, but I felt obligated to share our collective thoughts. The attentiveness of the servers, the presentation, quality and quantity of the food was on point. Hands down my favorite Japanese Bistro on the west coast. I have been going here for over 7 years now. The service is always phenomenal and I notoriously love ordering what I call the "Surprise Me Roll", which is my way of letting the chef know that they can get creative with it...I do request that it be spicy as well! This is a huge part of the fun for me here. We started off with a mixed tempura appetizer which is amidst the best in the west coast and is packed with lots of flavor when compared with other bistros. This roll below consisted of hamachi belly, shrimp, and ahi tuna, topped with jalapeños and some fish eggs! (it was on point as the image shows with my hand and the orange peel!) My girlfriend ordered the blackened cod, which was pretty incredible as well and very flavorful. The ambiance is definitely amidst the best as well and I love all of the Japanese decor that is set up. Would 100% recommend! Since there wasn't a line, we were greeted by a human and since it wasn't busy yet, she let us choose where to sit. Once seated, she confirmed that the table we chose was satisfactory, because she could move us if we wanted. Service was great, we didn't wait long for our edamame appetizer to come, or for the bottle of wine we brought to be opened($12 corkage, not bad!), and our soups followed shortly. Two of our party of four said it was the best Miso soup they've ever had. Our bowls were promptly collected and it wasn't long for our robot and server to arrive with our meals. The robot was a cute little touch- it was pretty to see our bento boxes all lit up. Each of us had ordered the 3 item bento box. No one was disappointed. There was one salad with no dressing(think it was a communication error), and one person had to wait to ask for a little more teriyaki sauce. So, maybe a sooner "check-in" after the food was served would've been helpful. No biggie, because we all loved every bit of our food. Very generous portions and a few little extras that weren't listed on the menu. I just wish I knew what they were! There was what we all decided was a crab and cream cheese stuffed pepper, there was a pickled vegetable I wish I knew what it was, and a little scoop of what tasted like a pumpkin puree. It was so much food, we all had leftovers to bring home. The tempura was delicious, the sushi on point, but my favorite was the chicken katsu. My husband gave me one of his gyozas(I think he was given 3 or 4), and that was delicious, too. Buttery uni, quail egg and just perfectly briny salmon roe. I was a little apprehensive at first because I was afraid the roe would be overpoweringly salty. Boy am I glad I tried this. The salmon roe was a perfect pair with the uni. It all came together nicely with the seasoned rice. This was an aesthetically beautiful bowl with just a slight sweetness and just enough savory. My friends and I wanted to have a small get together for some sushi and were tired of the sushi restaurants in our area. I found this place on Yelp as it looked promising. We came during the late afternoon hours so it wasn't busy, and our party of 5 was seated promptly. While seated I noticed that there's a little robot that comes around to serve you your food- so cool! I ordered the sashimi platter ($27) and tobiko nigiri, with miso soup on the side. The miso soup had a sweet pleasant taste to it. The presentation of the platter was pretty and the sashimi was fresh. My only complaint is that $27 is a steep price for the amount of sashimi you get. My dining experience at Huku's Japanese bistro changed the trajectory of my life. My culinary somlier, Chin lead my tastebuds on a journey to nirvana. He regaled me songs from his country (America), including classics from the blockbuster movie Topgun. Incredible service. The side salad superseded expectations and soared high above its rank. *** Vegetarian Review *** This place opened up about 6-8 years ago and I walked in to ask about vegetarian options. At the time, they had next to none so we just kept walking by and straight into the neighboring Chinese restaurant Wok of Flame. But thanks to a another Yelper, they told us their menu changed and they offer a limited selection of vegetarian items now. Would I Come Back? Yes. This will be a part of our regular rotation. Their vegetarian Garden Fairy House Roll was probably the best sushi I've had in nearly 30 years and will get me to return over and over again. Comparison. If you like Mikuni, you'll easily enjoy your food experience here, maybe even more. The environment is much more quiet and based on my initial eye test, more families eat here versus the college atmosphere of Mikuni. 2 tips for first timers: 1 Plenty of free parking. Huku is located in the Nugget Market shopping center. 2. If you like robots, check this place out. A robot brings your food to your table, but don't worry. A friendly human will set it on your table. Tofu Teriyaki, dinner ($20.15, Grade B). Thinly cut battered tofu topped with a vegetable stir fry in teriyaki sauce. Love the thinly sliced tofu ... provides a great crunch. However, I didn't enjoy the vegetable stir fry poured over the tofu. I recommend ordering this dish, but strongly suggest you ask for the stir fry on the side or not at all if you're not a huge stir fry fan. The dinner plate comes two side salads ... one with a thousand island-like dressing and another with a sesame dressing. You get a miso soup and so a few more side dishes ... a ginger/pickled cucumber and for a dessert, a sweet potato purée with a fried wonton strip. For all you pumpkin pie fans, this extra side will be a nice way to end your meal. Unfortunately, I am not Team Pumpkin/Sweet Potato Pie. Garden Fairy House Roll ($20.70, Grade A+). Deep fried asparagus and eggplant, avocado, and cucumber drizzled with unagi sauce. The sushi actually comes with a substantial salad and the presentation really appeals to the eyes. The salad comes with a sesame dressing and this was my favorite of the salad dressings. As a vegetarian for nearly 30 years, sushi is usually so boring so props to Huku for elevating their sushi game. This is crunchy and savory. The eggplant on top provides yet another textural contrast. Order this! It's enough to share with one other person, but you probably wouldn't want to! Haha Bottom line. Super friendly service. Our waters never saw the bottom of the glass before someone came to top off our glasses. They have a limited number of vegetarian items, but based on the two we tried tonight, I'm excited to give the remaining few a chance. The environment is calm and clean and the robots definitely help keep kids entertained while they wait for food. I will probably need to update this review after trying the tofu teriyaki sans stir fry, but until then, Hoku's vegetarian sushi House roll easily pushes the overview eating experience to a solid 4-stars! read more

Hulu has simplicity mastered! By far the best Japanese restaurant in Davis. My family and I love this place so much, we drive from Sacramento to just to eat at Huku! Not only are the prices reasonable, but the flavor, quality, and service is outstanding. I also love that they have a brown rice option for the rolls! The whole family always opt for the bento boxes. They have a 2 or 3 item option and each box comes with miso soup, salad, stuffed pepper, potato salad, and some oranges. I would also recommend trying the tsukemono (Japanese pickled vegetables); it even comes in a cute little dish. Overall, you get so much food for a great price. Noodles were chewy, and somehow both the tofu and vegetables were completely unseasoned and devoid of flavor which was very disappointing for a $20 dish.
