Came upto Davis Easter Sunday to drop off something for my Son. Most places were closed so we looked up this place... it was open and he likes Japanese. First of all they have an all you can eat sushi menu. The Lunch menu is not available on Sundays and Holidays dining so you have to order from the dinner menu with dinner pricing. I ordered the Pork Katsu dinner $ 22.00 It comes with a soup and salad. The dressing for the salad is really good...a ginger soy dressing, but is really watery...I had a quarter bowl of liquid when done with the salad. The pork katsu was cooked really well... very crunchy. The Saba Nigri was grilled ... strange... usually just marinated raw. At least the salmon nigri was raw. $6 for an order of 2. They run this place like it's going out of business. I never leave reviews.. but this experience was the reason I started a yelp account, especially seeing how they responded to another member at my table. The service was so slow I called the waitress over to our table during the meal and explicitly told her that I would gladly pay for every single roll if they would please just deliver the food, making it clear that I am well accustomed to spending good money when I go out to eat. It is genuinely pathetic that the management at Nami Sushi would actively lie to try and save face rather than apologizing to a loyal, paying customer. We have a sushi shop about 20 minutes from our home where my wife and I have gone the last six years. We easily spend $150 to $200 there--we are perfectly fine spending good money on quality food. Instead of the waitress responding positively to our simple request, the sushi chef walked over to our table to begin lecturing me on "pacing" and your various rules. I told you flat-out then that I didn't care about any of that--I just wanted the food we ordered. I then reitereated to you what I told the waitress. How cheap and embarrassing for you? First of all, do not lecture me on what is "mathematically impossible" for my family to eat. I live an active lifestyle and run marathons. To tell me what I can and cannot eat is absolutely ridiculous. We are experienced sushi eaters with a high appetite, and even my two-, three-, and four-year-old children eat well. We were fully prepared to eat what we ordered--if you had actually brought it out. Instead, you choked our table by bringing over just two rolls at a time for a table of five, refusing to deliver our ordered rolls and leaving us sitting around for 5 to 6 minutes at a time getting bored with empty plates in an empty restaurant. Then you have the audacity to blame "pacing" and "waste fees." We didn't ask for a babysitter or a financial advisor; we asked for the sushi we ordered on the AYCE menu. You deliberately withheld our order, substituted it with cheap fillings, and now you're trying to spin it as "professional care." You claim your kitchen didn't substitute anything and strictly followed our order, but you don't just get to redefine how a standard roll is made. For example, the spider roll we received didn't even have soft shell crab on top of it. Another roll with salmon had no fish at all--it was just cream cheese, sauce, and rice. On top of that, your menu explicitly says the rolls are have eight pieces, yet we were served shorted rolls with only five pieces. When you actually did include salmon, the pieces were cut so short and paper-thin that you could barely stretch them over the roll. This is honestly embarrassing. Furthermore, do not project your own assumptions onto my family. Going out to eat with our children wasn't stressful at all. Our kids are incredibly well-behaved, and our youngest slept through the entire meal. The only stressful element of the meal was dealing with your sluggish, miserly, deceptive service. Your attempt to weaponize a phone call confirming your age policy is equally hilarious. The second call was to confirm your hours since we were driving from out of town. Yes, we did verify your rules--and yet, during the meal, we still explicitly offered out of courtesy to pay for our toddlers who eat free. You completely ignored the gesture then, just like you are twisting the facts now. Our bill ended up being just under $80. We paid our bill and left a $50 tip on a sub-$80 check as a slap in your face for being so cheap. An establishment with any shred of integrity would have responded with an overwhelming apology. Instead, you choose to double down on your dishonesty online. You didn't serve what we ordered, you ruined an old memory, and your desperate response just confirms exactly why nobody should ever eat here. Avoid this place at all costs. But hey, you can thank me because I'm sure you'll work hard to make sure your next clients are not left with such a dismal experience.. or maybe not.. which is why your shop was completely empty. We had to check it out again. Things were a little (?) bit improved this time. Cleanliness was better overall, but I did not check out the bathroom. Last time that was terrifying. However, the restaurant itself was clean. Yay! They also now allow you to sit at a table with someone who is doing the all you can eat thing-- and you order off the menu if eating your weight in sushi is not your thing. This was not the case when we were here last time and that's a fantastic change. The price on the all-you-can-eat thing is now up to $27. I don't eat enough to make that worthwhile. I am good with a single roll or bento box. Some of the things we got were good. The udon soup was good, they even added an egg at the request of my friend. The tempera was good. I had the ninja roll and it was fine though it needed some kind of sauce. I don't eat soy sauce, so for me it ended up being a little lackluster. The biggest issue we had with the food was the all-you-can-eat items. My husband ordered this and tried quite a number of things --and pretty much without exception, the rice was really dry, almost crunchy. I'm almost wondering if they made up some of these rolls in advance. He loves sushi and can eat a lot of it, but he's no longer interested in coming here again based on this experience. Service was very good. We appreciated that. Everything we ordered was delicious! The staff was very friendly, but there were only three people working. The cook was also the waiter, janitor, cashier, and sushi maker all at once! This place is value for money! Especially for weekday lunch specials. I stopped by on the drive back to the South Bay from Sacramento. Everything is made to order and fresh. Servers were neither stingy nor annoyed with how much you ordered and were eager and fast to take your order again as soon as you finished. I do recommend they upgrade their card machine. Tip is still done manually with a printout and the bottom of the recept doesn't give you the calculated amounts. It would be nice to tap and tip on the machine screen itself. Plenty of seating available. The food was mostly good and awesome price. Ordered a pork katsu soup bento box ($14.95) and a 3 roll sushi ($15.25). For the 3 rolled sushi, choose from simple basic cook or raw rolls, got kamikaze, fish skin, and salmon tempura roll. Both orders came with salad and miso soup. As for the salad, it was watery, not too fresh. The miso soup had great flavor. The bento box was a great portion, I wish that the bento box contained sashimi or two piece roll. 3 roll sushi was good, the rolls were filling, not too much rice per roll. I used to love this place back when I was a student. Davis has a lot of ayce sushi but this one was always my favorite - their rolls are really unique. My all time favorite used to be the dynamite - with the creamy sauce and grilled fish being the star of the show. The server was surprised I asked about it since it's not on their lunch menu anymore but mentioned it is available during dinner. The closest thing I got was the lion king roll which was pretty similar in terms of the fish but not the same dynamite sauce. About 30 dollars for AYCE sushi, with plenty of sides for a seafood allergic friend ( he's a homie for coming along). The California hand roll was my favorite, delicious, moist, filled with imitation crab, generous fresh avocado. I actually would come back just for that. This is a nice spot for a dinner date in town! We got 4 rolls for 48 dollars and the food was good. This place has a classic sushi restaurant look and plenty of room between tables. Decided to come here for my friends birthday. This is one of her favorite AYCE sushi restaurants in town! It was my first experience here so I was very excited. First off, I like how its in a separate plaza away from downtown Davis. You don't have to worry about parking at all. There's tons of space. The restaurant itself is pretty small so I would recommend going early and putting your name down. They do have a bathroom as well. From what I've learned, the AYCE is only on the weekends now so take advantage of it. I don't know many sushi restaurants that still have that. Onto the food now, my friend has been here so I let her order for me and I added anything else I wanted afterwards. Each roll is about four pieces so you can enjoy a bit of everything. Some of my favorites were the spider, lion king and golden dragon. I'm a huge fan of hand rolls so I got the spicy tuna and salmon respectively. I was here this week and felt I needed to do another update! They offer the AYCE for $20 for lunch, and they have deals on rolls if you don't want AYCE. But if you are here with another, the AYCE deal is better. I think Nami is underrated in its quality. They don't make massive portions but I was surprised by the quality. The maki rolls and nigiri were good, and the rolls are above average. I would say the service is good and fast, and ambiance was actually pretty quite. There are opened for 10 years now and they have a little special going on. Definitely check it out if you are in the area. Besides Huku, I think this is my other sushi go-to spot. Enjoy! read more

We used to come here and love it. Now the AYCE sushi here is a totally different experience. We were the only one in the restaurant at noon which is a bad sign in itself. In spite of that, the service was quite slow. When we tried to order our second round, the proprietor did not want to fill the order. He said that it was too much food for the 4 of us. Then he picked up the menu and pointed to the rules that we would be charged $10 each for any leftover food, and said we would have to eat every last grain of rice to avoid the charge. Had the food been better, I might have added a star, but the fish was warm (? microwave from frozen) and the sauces were overpowering (apparently to hide the underlying taste). I've eaten here for AYCE a few times, it never disappoints and always hits the spot. My Grandmother lives nearby so we regularly pickup large to go orders (10+ rolls sometimes) to bring to her place--everyone always comments on how fresh and high quality the sushi is. Some stand out rolls that we really enjoy are the Super Davis, the Volcano and the Summer roll! I really want to highlight how kind the staff is. The main server (owner? Manager?) who is always running around doing a million different things is efficient and friendly, he never seems stressed even when the place is packed, he always walks up with a smile! I've been a few times for AYCE. I haven't gotten Nami since pre-pandemic. With a deal on uber eats, I decided to give it a shot. Paying regular sushi prices for an ayce place and all. Yum! Good for the price, not SUPER fresh, but definitely not bad. I got the chirashi bowl, which had a good amount of fish and came with some seaweed salad on top. One of my favorite things about sushi. I have never felt so horrible about a restauraunt that I have to write a review for because I try to understand as much as possible in a busy period. The place has one server he is so rude. So I've been going to Nami for many many years. It is sort of in a more secluded part of Davis, but well worth the trip and the buffet price. Before the pandemic, they were open for all you can eat style sushi (AYCE) and was much cheaper. However, due to the pandemic, they have cut back and only have AYCE on weekends and prices have risen to $24.99 per person from about $16.99 back in the day. However, I feel that it is STILL worth it. Nami has always served their customers well and quickly. The rolls are delicious, fresh and just bite sized enough that you can taste every ingredient without eating excessive amounts of rice. A lot of sushi places give you 20% filling and 80% rice... not Nami. It's a great balance. The servers are always kind and welcoming, which adds to the atmosphere. There's not much more I can honestly write because this place is a gem in Davis. Good food, good service, and you end up not feeling awful about overeating because it's worth it! Haha My ONLY con is that you can't order tempura shrimp separately as an order... if you order the mixed Tempura, it comes with ONE tempura shrimp and a mix of vegetable tempura. Recommendations: 1. This is one of my favorite spots in Davis. The concept of (relatively) cheap all you can eat sushi may seem suspicious but I can assure you that the sushi here is as great as it is plentiful. Not only is the sushi unlimited (currently all you can eat is a weekend only thing, though I hope they return to it full time soon) but there are a huge variety of options. I personally love everything salmon, like the salmon lover, and the lion king roll is very different from anything I've had elsewhere. Of course you can get all the classics.
