So walking in we were not sure it really was an Italian restaurant. We could not smell the usual sauce/pizza in the air. We hesitated because of that. There were plants everywhere in the dining space, just didn't match up. (The pendant lights were nice but the mismatch could have looked artistic but instead just looked mismatched). Kitchen looked not well kept and disorganized. Our wait staff was very informal and not consistent, had to ask for silverware when salad was served. When pizza came had to replace silverware because when they removed salad bowls took the silverware. Salad was good, but was surprised the salad dressing came out in take out containers since we were at a sit down dinner. It felt like we were at a take out place. We ordered the pizza special butternut squash, onions, bacon and cheese, didn't realize it was going to be a white pizza, the toppings were disproportionate, heavy on bacon (was too salty), after the first bite not so great. read more

We came here after tubing on the farmington River (this is across the street from a launch point with rental tubes) and were very excited to eat. The restaurant was nice, has a nice clean bathroom and good seating. Our server was polite and we didn't have to wait too long for our food or drinks. The food we ordered was huge, I got ribs and french onion soup, brussel sprouts, and we got a pizza for the table. The chicken vodka pizza was definitely my favorite, it was so saucy and tasty. The taste of my shrimp was good just disappointed I had to completely peel my own stuffed shrimp. Salad was good. My husbands food was not edible he had the chicken parm he said it tasted fishy not sure why that was the case. Guessing they used to same grill to make the chicken as they did the fish. read more

READ ENTIRE REVIEW BEFORE DISMISSING THIS PLACE. My 1st time here. I was looking for take out to bring home & they had the best prices in town. The online menu showed pizza, but didn't list it. so I called. The waitress that took the call was friendly & well spoken. She was Spanish, as was the entire staff which amused me, because it was advertised as an Italian/American Resteraunt. It was clean inside & had pleasant Xmas music playing, not too loud & not too soft. Now a days you go into a resteraunts & it's more like a club scene w/ the music so loud, you can't hear table conversations. I went & sat at the bar while waiting for the order & figured I'd have a beer,, but no one ever came to the bar to ask me for a drink. Not the end of the world, bec I didn't need a drink, I was just looking to pass the time. The bathroom was small, but clean. No toilet paper, so I just washed my hands, but none of this impacted my opinion of this establishment negatively. Now to the food.. We tried the chicken Parmigiano w/ angel hair pasta & a lg Pepperoni & mushroom pizza. This review is a little more difficult to rate because the pizza crust was a 5+.. Seriously the BEST crust I've had in a good 15+ years.. completely memorable! It was new York style, too hard or rubbery. It was literally perfection! (even after reheating) The sauce on the pizza was a little different, (not bad) as was the cheese. It was a Mexican cheese, also not terrible.. the pizza itself, crust aside, I would rate a 4.5. Definitely worth a try. The chicken Parmigiano was prob a 3. The portion was very generous, but they skimped on the cheese. If you lifted the 1st piece of chicken, there was no cheese on the 2nd piece & the breading was thick & goopy. (not my thing) However, the chicken was cooked well, very moist & thick. The salad was fresh & the dressing was decent. ( peppercorn) The sauce on the spaghetti was cooked with bell peppers, not bad, but also not exactly my thing. All & all, I would say give this place a chance. The prices were great, the food was decent, & there definately a few hilights. I bet they make a mean grinder/sub sandwich. Stopped by for brunch on a weekday on a whim. The place was quiet but we were greeted right away by a friendly waitress. She said we can sit anywhere and brought us over crayons, paper, and paper bags for our toddler to play with. I ordered coffee and eggs benedict; the eggs benedict was good, saucy, and came with home fries. I was feeling extra hungry so I also had Belgian waffles on the side (these were HUGE). The service was great; the waitress was attentive and always checking up on us. The food came out fast and delicious. Overall, a great dining experience and will be back! read more

Tried their pizza for the first time and boy was I impressed. It's truly NY Style. Thin floppy slices, the pepperonis are thick cut so they char and cup so beautifully, the sauce tasted so light, flavorful, and fresh. The cheese was sooo good, it had that deep cheesy saltyish flavor that just warms your soul. I love their pizza and I can't wait to have it again!! read more

We've eaten at Good Friends Diner a couple of times of now -- the first time was a takeout order, the last time, we ate inside. IMO, the food is mediocre, average at best. We ordered a chicken parmigiana dinner and a sausage parmigiana grinder the time we did the takeout. The sausage grinder was OK. The chicken in the chicken parmigiana dinner was pounded thin, but unfortunately, it was overcooked, and therefore hopelessly dry & tough. We didn't have the desire to finish it all, so most of the chicken parmigiana took a trip to the trash. Since the Good Friends Diner is local for us, we decided to give them another try last week. We shared a garlic bread appetizer, my wife ordered a grilled chicken sandwich (w/ fries), I had a Reuben sandwich (w/fries). Garlic bread appetizer was alright, marinara sauce was excellent. My wife liked her chicken sandwich, but the meat in my Reuben was tough & chewy. Problems came later that night when both of us experienced gastrointestinal discomfort, we suspect it was from the garlic bread, because that's an item we both ate. Needless to say, I'm not in a rush to head back to the Good Friends Diner. The place is in town for us though, so we might give them another shot. I have heard the breakfasts are good, will write an update if that happens. read more

From the outside, I would call this "non-descript" - it's a large dusty parking lot with a single story navy building. Inside, even, is classic diner with lots of space and two areas to eat. However, then you notice the little details, like their fancy lighting above the posh brown booths, or the adorable condiment caddies to ensure each table has jam, sugars, and salt. (I think these are brilliant) But the most memorable aspects are the service and the food. When I realized I was going to be under an incredible time crunch to eat, pay, and be outside to make a work call, the waitress very calmly brought my bill with my food. They have a neat table side machine for you to pay with a card. Then, even though I did have to inhale it, the food was amazing. My Irish Benefit had perfect eggs with yolks that ran out and enhanced the Benedict sauce, the corned beef was a bit salty and no distracting chunks of onion. The home fries were well seasoned and for the most part, well crisped. I can't wait to go back and give their food the proper attention it deserves! read more

Good Friends had their big open tonight. It's been open the last few months, but I hadn't gotten there yet. I saw online that they have a Friday night special of Prime Rib! I ordered online (super easy). I picked mashed potatoes and asparagus, some rolls, and stuffed mushrooms as a starter. When I arrived to pick up my dinner, the girl asked if I had wanted a salad. I didn't realize I got one. How nice of her!! The atmosphere was more open and warm than the last restaurant that was in there. I have to say, it was soooo good! All of it! I am full as I write this... and I still have enough for 2 more meals! I can't wait to try it for breakfast!! read more

The service was good, promptly seated and during the meal moderately attentive. We ordered a penne alla vodka, a lobster ravioli, a good friends special and a zappa di clams appetizer in the white wine sauce. The appetizer. The clams were cooked well but the sauce was not good, it had too much garlic and we think the sauce was made of white clam juice that had corn starch added to it, not any kind of wine flavor. The lobster ravioli. It had 2 shrimp and 3 raviolis in a sauce that had sundried tomatoes in it, it looked good but tasted like it had melted cheddar in it. The ravioli did not have lobster in them, it was some kind of fish paste and I'll be darned if we could find lobster in the entire dish. The penne alla vodka. The main part of this dish is supposed to be the sauce in which the alcohol adds a certain flavor that is distinctive. All of us tried this dish and we have had this in multiple places. This dish had sauce that was dry and also tasted of cheddar? The good friends special. It had 3 pieces of chicken strips and 3 beef strips with some red peppers cut into strips. The sauce eaten with the beef reminded us of a salisbury steak tv dinner. Lastly, the french onion soup served with the meal. It was fair to call it bland, the bread was a slice of rye (rye in french onion soup?) which is supposed to be a baggette or croutons and the cheese was mozzerella. Traditionally the ingredients can vary wildly but this just made it sub-par. Skip this soup, get the salad. Definitely could have been better. I give it 2 stars because of the service. The prices were good and the plates were big, but I'd have to give this place another chance to give them a better review. The food and service that we received on our visit wasn't the greatest. The waitress forgot a few of our items and never came back to check on us for refills of drinks etc. the home fries were just okay, definitely tasted better with salt, pepper, and ketchup. I ordered one of the eggs Benedict's and all of the eggs on my plate were hard boiled. It was extremely disappointing. Went here for dinner on a Friday night and there was no waiting for a table. A nice window seat was pleasant. We ordered a prime rib dinner and the Mediterranean cod dinner. Service was very slow as they are very short on servers. Dinner salads were ice cold and fresh. Prime rib was a little tough, fatty & under seasoned. The cut was a decent size, but needed salt, pepper and garlic. The mashed potatoes were also lacking in seasoning. The greens bean side dish was delicious and they were cooked crisp tender. Hubs had the Mediterranean cod and it was a smudge burned to the foil packet it was cooked in. We probably will try something else next time. Oh, the two dinner rolls were nicely warm and the butter was soft & spreadable. These folks are so sweet and we want to continue to support them. Breakfast here is solid, too. We had breakfast there this morning. The corned beef hash was delicious. And they had what I considered "real" rye bread and not that square stuff that some other restaurants serve. There's just something about a square piece of rye bread that is a turnoff. We definitely will be going back. Oh, and someone needs to update the hours. They are open for dinner. read more

FOOD SAFETY ISSUE. There was a piece of broken plate in the potato's. It was extremely sharp and was shaped like a shark tooth. There response was completely inappropriate. Their excuse was that they are a "family run business", but clearly they value money more than human lives. Mistakes happen but they should have reiterated that health and safety is a priority. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but I had to put this out there. I went on a Saturday morning with my boyfriend for brunch. I've ordered takeout from this place plenty of times and it was always good so we decided to go and sit down. We walked in and the host greeted us and sat us at a table. He asked us what we wanted to drink and we told him and then waited and he never came back. The owner came over with water and asked us what we wanted to drink. We told her and she came back and took our order. I noticed that every other table in the restaurant (maybe 6) had a server that was very attentive and was very good with her tables. We were the only ones with the owner as a server. Yes, i worked in a restaurant for 3 years, specifically a sports bar and i know servers can get overwhelmed which is fine. I heard the way she was conversating with her tables and busting her butt for them and she definitely needs a raise! Anyways, my order was completely wrong, totally not what I ordered. I don't like to confront people and send things back (i know it's a hassle in the kitchen and i always feel bad) plus it was something i would eat anyways so I decided to just eat it. Nobody came and checked on us. The food was awful and i'm a HUGE fan of diners and this one just wasn't worth it to me. My home fries were mush, and the eggs benedict had a hard yolk and when i cut the second one open, water just filled my plate. I didn't eat it and i was obviously grossed out and i overheard another table complain about almost the same thing. The owner just dropped the check off and was never seen again. I understand it is not easy to make eggs benedict but this was hands down the worst one i've had. No flavor, completely water, and a hard yolk. Overall disappointed and not coming back :( read more
