Good Luck Cafe has been an icon in the community with the feeling of "coming home to eat at mom's " Great Food still at good price ".

I hate having to write this because I've been coming here since I was a kid, and this place used to be one of my favorites. The food, especially the double cheeseburger, has always been something I looked forward to. Unfortunately, over the years, both the food quality and the customer service have steadily gone downhill. Today's visit was the final straw. I ordered a double cheeseburger, but instead I was handed a single cheeseburger and told they could give me the second patty later. If I ordered a double cheeseburger, then that's what I expect to receive. I'd much rather wait a few extra minutes for my full order than be given half of it. On top of that, I had to ask for condiments and silverware multiple times. Forgetting once is understandable, but having to remind the staff three times is frustrating and shouldn't happen. I left still hungry because I never got what I actually ordered, and I left disappointed with the overall service. It genuinely saddens me because this restaurant has been a part of my life for years. I really hope management turns things around, because this place used to be great. As of now, I don't plan on coming back anytime soon. read more

We stopped by Good Luck Cafe on a Monday morning while waiting for relatives before a nearby cemetery visit, and we're glad we did. I literally plan trips to El Paso just for this menudo. (I'm from Las Vegas). This menudo is SO flavorful and delicious! It is literally my favorite (besides my dads lol) it's a smaller place with not a lot of parking but definitely do able. It reminds me of an old style diner and has a very family friendly atmosphere! I grew up in El Paso but no longer live there. A relative recommended I visit Good Luck Cafe while passing through in order to satisfy my hot dog fix. It did not disappoint! Outstanding hot dog served in a round bun with beans and cheese. I also ordered a side of fries which were also excellent. The service was friendly and prompt. They had a small line when I arrived and an even longer line when I left. Definitely a popular spot that I wish I had known about decades ago. The restaurant was clean and had a great diner vibe. I was super excited to be in El Paso and have authentic Mexican food. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed in the food. I ordered Menudo and was lukewarm. My husband's enchiladas were also cold. We sent them back to the kitchen and all they did was microwave them which greatly concerns me for the food safety. Having a bad morning so far, I missed my appointment because of a parking attendant's inability to communicate accurately, so I thought I'd try to get lucky...by heading to the Good Luck Cafe. I've never been here, and from the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor was humble but the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Now onto the main attraction - the food! I ordered the menudo and was blown away by how flavorful it was. The broth was rich and savory, and the tripe was cooked to perfection, it was spongy and extremely tender. The dish was also accompanied by a delicious array of individually wrapped toppings (limes, salsa, onions, pepper flakes, oregano, etc) and a huge piece of toasted buttery bread that complemented the menudo perfectly. I also ordered a BLT and it was spilling over with toppings, they're not stingy with ingredients here and service was lighting fast even though they were busy. Overall, I highly recommend Good Luck Cafe to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Mexican meal. The food was average at best. We ordered the chilaquiles and a bacon burger. The sauce on the chilaquiles tasted canned and had almost no flavor. The burger was just a burger. The service was lousy. They were busy, but it seemed like our server had time for everyone except us. Once our food came out he never came to check on us or offer refills. This was hands down the best menudo I have ever had!!!! It was not too thick and had the right amount of meat. The hominy was a great throwback as the East and West coast menudos do not include it. This place is nostalgic for me. My family and I would eat at the Hamburger Inn when I was a little girl. Then the Hamburger Inn went under new management and the food wasn't as good. Eventually they closed... We then started coming to Good Luck Cafe. We've never looked back. My Tio and his family are regulars at Good Luck. Every time I visit them in El Paso, this is the place we eat. Every single time. There is not a trip to El Paso without a trip to Good Luck Cafe. Inexpensive. Large portion sizes. You can't go wrong. It's a quaint little place, nice mellow music playing-moderately loud..but not annoying. We got here about 40 minutes prior to closing. We weren't really greeted, it was seat yourself but we hadn't been here before so we asked to be sure. We sat and waited a few minutes for menus, they were a bit busy. We ordered our drinks and kinda just breathed in the atmosphere. We got the Flautas and Hamburger Steak and Eggs plate. Let's start with the flautas..it was average for my over seasoned palette unfortunately; not a lot of shredded beef inside(no seasoning)...but the cook on them was good and crispy. The dish came with refried beans (very good and not dry); however, the rice left little to be desired(very mushy but a good season). I tried some verde salsa that was just hot, no type of taste. Again, I think I just have an over seasoned palette from American food for 50+years. The Hamburger Steak and Eggs ; my husband went out of his comfort zone. His words are, "if I had seen it first I wouldn't have ordered it cause I don't like eggs on top of stuff". Oh, but he ate it all with fond memories of The Waffle House. I no longer live in El Paso and hadn't visited this little gem in over 12 years. Stopped with my family and out of town relatives who had never been here. I have to say, it's like Good Luck is on a time capsule. Service, food was just as great as I remember. My family loved it and their food. An over all great experience. Good Luck Cafe! It's an El Paso classic. Family owned and operated, traditional food and a wholesome atmosphere. The building is kind of small and sometimes there is a wait but if your patient, it's worth it. They serve many traditional Mexican dishes and all of the flavors are on point, absolutely delicious. Aside from the food and the atmosphere, the staff is something to me recognized. Alright, i will caveat my review right off the bat. I prefer tex-mex food to authentic mexican. And Good Luck Cafe is most definitely a very good authentic mexican place. So if you want that style, I would say its easily a 4 star. For me, I found the food a little dry and tough so it warrants 3 stars from my perspective. When I arrived at Good Luck Cafe with friends it was packed with a line out the door. Apparently its always that busy. We were able to squeeze our way into the stools at the kitchen bar. I really like the vibe of the restaurant. It feels like a Mexican version of Waffle House (but higher quality food to be sure). My friend asked the cook if i could sample the menudo (I'd never had menudo before). Although I dont think menudo is really my thing, the cook obliged and gave me a very generous sample portion. It was thick with flavor and meaty goodness, although I could see how the texture of the meat could turn off some people. I ordered machaca and the food came out super fast. It was a very generous amount of food. The hashbrowns were prepared in a different, but quite good, thicker, less crunchy version than I'm used too. My friends told me that true mexican machaca is very dry and chewy, almost jerky like, with no cheese. Good Luck Cafe's machaca fit that description perfectly. As I mentioned before, I prefer tex-mex so it didnt quite do it for me. I prefer Kikis and Lucy's machaca (sorry but i love me some queso in my eggs and beef). But my friends' dishes (don't remember names, (the food not my friends)) looked impressive. Another strong positive, the food was very inexpensive. I would definitely eat at Good Luck Cafe again.
