Living in FBG, there are not many Chinese buffets. This place is worth the quick drive to get your fix. Is it the best? No. Is it typical Chinese buffet? Yup. It does the job for us!! Only complaint would be to turn up the AC.

As far as Asian Buffets goes I've had better and way worse. While not a glowing recommendation I found some good bites at Good Taste in Kerrville. Been awhile since I've paid before entering; was someone supposed to strip where I throw dollar bills wildly in the air? Acceptable bites started with a hybrid krab rangoon. Closer to a wonton sans pork in shape I think I ate four or five lol. Scallion beef was also good bites as was the lo mein. Spare ribs had decent tear; hopefully you get a good server who will bring you 100 napkins. Thai chicken was decent as it had skin! There is some bad news obviously. I'm finding it hard to believe cookies, hard boiled eggs, jello, miniature cannolis, brownies are traditional fare. Coconut shrimp was so scary I refused to try it. Wonton soup's filling wasn't even close. Stuffed shrimp had been on the buffet about two hours too long. Service was fine; bit of a language barrier. Good Taste for the uninitiated perhaps?

This is the same building that housed the ill-fated Bamboo Asian Buffet. It was in business for many years and evidently due to mismanagement, poor food which deteriorated to inedible--and barely warm and not replenished regularly--and lack of cleanliness, the business failed its inspections and was forced to close; this was noted on the restaurant's page on Yelp. I learned earlier in the month that a new restaurant had taken its place, so today my companion and I decided to give it a try. We ordered hot tea and were pleased that it was jasmine. And not the weak, tepid brew we had experienced in the BGT (Before Good Taste) era. This had a nice body and the jasmine flavor was distinct. So far, so good. We made a couple of swings through the line. BGT, my handy-dandy infrared thermometer read 109 degrees with 140 being the safety standard's lowest acceptable reading. Today, the formally-cool steam tables were bubbling away and my thermometer read 152--just right. And there were a few notable additions to the old favorites: spring (summer) rolls and ribs--a nice surprise. Ready for the countdown? Here we go! Those spring (summer) rolls had no protein, at least none was discernible; be that as it may, they were very good and had a refreshing taste. The accompanying peanut sauce was not on the sweet side as is found in many restaurants, but rather the peanut flavor didn't just announce its presence--it shouted it. Paired with the crisp veggies of the roll, the result was excellent. The ribs--ah, the ribs! I usually eschew Oriental ribs as they're most-times tough and chewy with enough cloyingly sweet sauce to completely cover up the pork's flavor. But these ribs were prepared correctly. They appear to have been steamed previously, the way I saw it in China. Then the sauce was judiciously applied; not too much, not too little. The result was a flavorful, thick rib that melted in my mouth--except the bone, of course. The breaded zucchini, nasty, flaccid things which I hated BGT were now crisp and fresh without a trace of oil. The fried butterflied shrimp, cheese rangoon and eggroll were okay but undistinguished. The coconut shrimp, on the other hand stood out. The coconut flavor was not pronounced but was present; the shrimp were coated with a coconut milk sauce. I usually don't care for shrimp, but I happily ate these. The "shrimpiness" was present but played well off the sweet sauce--very nicely balanced. The fried chicken wings were simplicity itself; no breading or sauce, just throw 'em in the oil and let 'em bubble away. They were properly and thoroughly cooked and were juicy and tender. I tried a bit of sushi--a Philadelphia roll and pickled seaweed salad. Both were quite good; my companion, who doesn't like sushi, had two helpings. The lo mein, which in BGT days was flavorless and tough, was well-seasoned and tender. Who out there said, "Is he done yet?" No, I'm not; wait patiently and be enlightened further! The bane of many buffets is the stuffed mushrooms. I'll be the first to admit, I had no idea what they were stuffed with--my best guess is crab and breadcrumbs--but the cheese on top brought it all together. Next to the mushrooms was glazed ham--not as foreign to Chinese menus as you might think. It was crispy round the edges and the glaze was just sweet enough without being overpowering. Finally, I tried four chicken dishes. The ubiquitous chicken teriyaki was tender, lightly sauced and juicy. General Tso's Chicken was not horribly sweet as is so common with this dish. It was not spicy hot other than a pleasant "afterglow." The jalapeño chicken, likewise was not overly hot but the pepper's flavor was definitely there; not overpowering, though. Finally, the honey chicken was delicate and juicy, cooked just right with the honey sauce vying with the chicken for center stage. There are dessert pastries and fruits, also soft serve ice cream, chocolate pudding and tapioca; notable was sugared peanuts. Being gorged to the limit--all for you, Gentle Reader--I thought it prudent not to push my luck, so I abstained. In my book, this reincarnation of a restaurant that had died of neglect is a great success story. I was happy to see the steam tables replenished regularly and the place spotlessly clean; and this includes the restrooms. The prices are reasonable: lunch is $8.49, dinner is $10.49. Please note that we went on a Sunday at 11:40am; this is a great time as the church crowd arrives shortely after noon and the food is kept very fresh. So give Good Taste Asian Buffet a try, regardless of your experience at its former incarnation. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised--I was.

Good food, better than average Chinese buffet. All the serving areas were clean and well taken care of. Good sushi!

He did not acknowledge my presence nor did he even say I'll be with you in a moment. So don't do walk in. I mean at least nod or acknowledge my presence. He blamed it on the change of management and whatever other excuse you wanna make for the delay, but I can tell you in my experience of living in the area for over 15 years. This place has gone downhill considerably. It's the only Chinese restaurant left that still makes Hanauer and they drop soup as opposed to soaring dragon, which unfortunately is closed on Tuesdays. So just a quick note never go to try it down on Tuesdays. It is now been 30 minutes. I'm still waiting on two soups. When I got home, not only were the crispies stale, but it taste like the soup with old Chinatown is old town. I'm not coming back.

I'll definitely be going or picking up food from here a lot! Thank you China town !

It was the in between time of late lunch 2:30-3pm so we thought we would miss the Sunday afternoon church rush. The parking lot and restaurant was full but didn't let it scare us. Only had to wait 5 mins. Don't let the full restaurant fool you. The wait staff checks in often and moves tables very fast. Pro tip- you can hang outside and check out the koi fish in the pond to kill some time Sat down and drinks came out fast ordered dim sum which came out in the cute steam baskets first. Shrimp Shumai and pork bao buns were so good. My kids asked for seconds We also ordered the sweet and sour chicken, spicy eggplant/tofu, shrimp& broccoli and the combination fried rice. Everything was perfectly seasoned with the exception of the sweet and sour chicken. It was very bland. Next time I want to order the orange peel chicken instead. Looked good and now we know! So much food we'll have leftovers for a few days. Score!
