Prime rib cooked as good or even better than mine! Plus a soup and salad bar, a veggie and extra meat bar, and the most tender, moist perfectly cooked prime rib with au jus, horseradish sauce and hot rolls! Plus a wonderful dessert table!!! Honestly I have to say, the brunch was pretty disappointing... We made a reservation here for Easter Brunch, and when we arrived, expecting to have a full spread, were sadly greeted by a prime rib and seafood spread. That may not have been as big of a disappointment if what they had out to offer had been better than it actually was. The best part was our server and the mimosas. The food left much to be desired. Fish, shrimp, crab salad, and prime rib made for a very odd combo for Easter brunch. If you're at the hotel and you can justify the cost of eating here due to the convenience, fine, I definitely understand that. However, I would advise going somewhere else a few minutes down the road and have twice the experience for half the price. read more

Granted, it's Covid. It's affecting all the restaurants. So I will return when things have gotten more predictable. For this visit, it was rather sad. Eating at 6pm, only 6 tables had customers. The air conditioning unit was noisy. The staff were pleasant if not particularly sophisticated or knowledgeable about the menu. Everything was pretty mediocre. The best item, chicken cordon bleu, I suspect came frozen from Sysco, but it was ok. The prime rib, served at the buffet, was pretty sad though. Tough, overcooked, mealy, and flavorless, it was disappointing. to say the least. Later on a fresh roast came out that was much better. The steamed vegetables were pretty lame. Overcooked and underseasoned. The potatoes were dull and underseasoned. The desserts were all pretty good. The bread pudding, warmed and not too sweet, was ooey gooey and pretty yummy. The pumpkin pie was more spiced and less creamy than we expected but was good. The peach pie, even though it was just past peach season, was quite good. And the rhubarb was tasty, too, although I found the crust on this one to be soggy compared to the others. The spice cake was tasty and moist and the white cake that we couldn't quite identify was very good. Whoever runs the pastry kitchen knows their stuff. Overall, this is a reasonably edible meal but nothing special. We were disappointed but will try again when things are better. read more

I've been coming here for years and the seafood buffet is exquisite! The YO beef tortilla soup it one of my personal favorites. It's super flavorful and just love the taste. There were two other really great dishes! Homemade Au Gratin potatoes and Pecan Cobbler. Compliments to the chef for everything tasting so fresh and delicious. It's definitely worth every penny! If you have not tried their seafood Buffet, then you better get yourself in here! There's fried shrimp, catfish, scallops, and crab cakes. We picked up a Kerrville Dining Guide at The Point (where Stonehenge II is) and I went one by one investigating on Yelp! It's not super easy to find different options around here, especially between Sunday and Tuesday before 4 or 5 pm. Mexican, Fast Food, and Diners rule. I found The Branding Iron and suggested we try it. We immediately fell in love with the YO as soon as we walked in. Having seen the huge cross across the street, we were happy to find an explaination inside the YO. We were warmly greeted by our server, whose name I regret that I don't have, because she was lovely. She asked if we had been there before and when we said no, she explained that we were visiting on BBQ day and told us about the buffet and explained that their regular menu was also available, but today they had only one Chef and he was cooking for the buffet, the restaurant, and the conference so wait times could be longer than usual. As a Chef myself, this warmed my heart. We all chose the buffet and we all left absolutely stuffed. The tortilla soup is as good as it looks in the pictures. We have tried their Sunday brunch twice and it has been superb both times. An omelet bar and prime rib cut to your pleasure are the highlights of this buffet. Comparable to a Las Vegas style buffet, you will be hard pressed to find a Sunday brunch of this quality anywhere else in this vicinity. I confess--I'm a buffet junkie! I went for lunch this past Wednesday--Pasta Day--and enjoyed myself thoroughly. Each day has a different theme; you can call and the hostess will let you know what's on any menu for the week. The big plus on Pasta Day is Giselle and her magic pans--pasta cooked to order! Choose meats, veggies, type of pasta and sauce; Giselle will do the rest. Trust me--when this lady finishes your order, it's hands-down the best pasta in this or just about any town! I'm a retired chef, cooked in Italy, so I have some experience with the food. The rest of the fare consisted of mixed vegetables (usually the bane of buffets but here quite tasty), chicken piccata (creamy style, lots of capers) lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs (the meatballs weren't the usual rubber ball consistency; they were flavorful with a pleasing texture) and fish. It's very difficult to maintain a buffet properly; the Branding Iron does an excellent job. The salad bar deserves a mention. Fresh ingredients--no wilted lettuce here. Real bacon bits, too, prepared in house! There's always two soups--taco soup is every day, the other soup today was tomato basil, which deserves special mention. I hate tomato soup but I'd eat this one by the gallon. It's creamy and has chunks of tomatoes and other vegetables. The dessert offerings were many and varied and there's always a fruit cobbler and even a sugar-free pie so you can at least feel virtuous about dessert! As for service, I couldn't ask for anyone better than Lesa who's a veteran of the profession. And yes, servers are professionals--the good ones, at least. Lesa goes out of her way to make your dining experience a very pleasant one. Be sure to ask for her. At the helm is Executive Chef Isaac Eckstein; his wife and two sons work there too. These folks care about the food and about their customers as evidenced by chef keeping a constant eye on both the back and front of the house. Haute cuisine it's not; tasty and very well-prepared, it is. Give the Branding Iron a try; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! read more

Went in for breakfast buffet on 28 October sat down not one time while eating the breakfast buffet did a waitress come to check on us there were not 20 people in the whole restaurant no water no coffee no nothing. We ate one plate of terrible food and decided to leave so we looked for a waitress to get our check maybe 5 minutes. After our wait I went to the front check out to get our bill no one there walked to the front desk of hotel and the hostess was there I said no one to pay at the check out for the restaurant. He comment to me was it was crazy busy and she was super busy well had that have been true she would have been checking people out after all last time I knew they were supposed to be at there place checking people out. Not visiting at the front desk. Oh well just another bad visit to a restaurant that can do better. Terrible service terrible food. read more

We stayed at the hotel while visiting family and invited my parents down for Sunday Brunch. Having had their regular breakfast on another stay, we had high hopes. Honestly, the brunch was good. The omelets even dipped into "stellar" territory. But overall the selections were slightly underwhelming. The salmon was dry, peel-your-own shrimp mushy and just not good as a couple of examples. But the service was great, mimosas were ice-cold, and seriously, make sure to tuck a few singles into your pocket for the lady at the omelet station. They're outstanding & earned the 4th star for this visit. The salad bar featured many fresh choices, and their signature soup (a sort of ground beef tortilla soup) was surprisingly tasty as well. As I mentioned, we'd eaten here before and can wholeheartedly recommend their regular breakfast offerings. Their chicken fried steak & eggs is bomb, hash browns are on point, oj is ice-cold... it's just a GREAT spot for breakfast, particularly with family if you have little ones who will love the interior of the lobby. read more

I was slightly wary of a hotel restaurant but saw online that it had a salad bar, something hard to find here in town. So off we went, and I was pleasantly surprised by the service first then the food, there were several vegetarian options and the food was good. Their buffet looked like it was okay, but I didn't try out the salad bar after all and got the sautéed veggie wrap and sweet potato fries, cooked just right. I had a negative experience unfortunately. I am traveling on business so I dine alone. My first encounter was with the bartender who said I couldn't eat dinner at the bar. Ok, so off to the restaurant where the server said that the bartender was wrong. Lazy I suppose, because there was no one else at the bar! And he must be dumb because I was ordering salad dinner and drinks, about $50 worth. If you calculate that tip (and I am a good tipper) it's stupid of him. It's a Tuesday so the restaurant is dead too. I don't like sitting in restaurants alone. Thank goodness for my iPhone. So I got a glass of wine. Order a Caesar salad and a filet (hey if the company is buying...). Takes a while for the salad to come. Wonder why? Did she forget the salad? No, it came out with grilled chicken on top (which I didn't order). Then two bites into the salad (you know what's about to happen right?) my entree comes out. I wish managers would teach the wait staff to wait for the guest to finish their app, soup or salad before bringing out the entree. The plate looks wonderful. Filet is cooked to perfection, baked potato and a nice medley of grilled veggies. Then I cut into the steak...yuck! It's tough. You can see and hear the grizzle when you cut into it. And it tasted terrible too. Not the chefs fault, he/she did a wonderful job preparing the dish. I think it was one of those $5 filets wrapped in bacon that come in those plastic packages. Very disappointed. So I ended up not eating the entree but ate the salad with chicken instead. Everything happens for a reason right? Then it got worse. I finished my salad, which was very good and at the bottom of the dish I see a small piece of broken glass about the size of a dime. WTH? This just isn't my night. Well I had to bring that to the manager's attention. She was apologetic and took the entree off my check, and offered me a free dessert. But I declined dessert, so she said I can come back for a complimentary breakfast buffet in the morning. I truly wasn't looking for any freebies. I just wanted a good steak dinner. I mean, the place is called the Branding Iron! To me, that indicates that they feature steak. I feel bad complaining, in fact, 99.99% of the time I say nothing and suffer in silence. I hate confrontation. But not for a $30 entree. I have to draw the line somewhere. So next time, I won't be too lazy to leave the hotel to get some good food. Lesson learned. read more

Just turn around and find somewhere else to eat ....the local McDonald's serves better food than this place. They have a daily buffet that looks likes it's been setting out for days and there food from the menus is way overcooked and has to much seasoning to mask the fact that it's overcooked....the mashed potatoes was made from a box which you would not expect from a steakhouse...this place also smells old and looks outdated..you would think a place claiming to be a steakhouse would be kept up better...Also there are pictures of it on the YO Ranch hotels website that make it look like a nice place but I'm betting those pictures were taken 10-20 years ago when it was nice so don't believe what you see in the photos. read more

My husband and I stayed at the YO Ranch Hotel while visiting the hill country for my 52nd birthday. It was raining outside and we were tired from driving so we decided to eat at their restaurant The Branding Iron for my birthday dinner. They had a buffet but we wanted steak so we ordered from the menu. The restaurant is nice and comfy. I felt underdressed but everyone was dressed like me for the most part. Service was ok, our waitress was a little slow in bringing tea refills. The salad bar was nice and delicious. I ordered the filet medium well and my husband ordered the rib-eye medium. We both ordered loaded baked potatoes to go with our steak. The potatoes were very good with all the toppings needed. My husbands steak turned out pretty good but mine on the other hand was not that great. It tasted like one of those bacon wrapped filets you get pre packaged at Wal-mart. I was very disappointed! Although the steaks were cooked to perfection, I couldn't see that the filet I got was worth $30.00! Next time I will pick something else. For the most part, we enjoyed our dinner. read more

Second time we have gone here for Valentine's Day. First time, we were treated nicely and the staff was nice, as well. Food Good. So back we came. Greeted at the door by a really nice lady who escorted us to the dining room, and gave us a choice of seats. The choices were menu, or special for valentines, including 1. Prime Rib, 2. Salmon plank, or 3. Chicken Wellington. I didn't see any chicken on anybody's plates, so I am guessing there is a special for lunch today on chicken. Anyway, I ordered the Prime Rib, she ordered the Salmon with wine sauce. Now, let us pause here for a moment. Most people seem to love prime rib and enjoy it raw as it comes. Yuch. I specifically asked the waitress to tell the chef, I wanted a 3/4 inch thick slab, and I wanted it seared on both sides. He didn't have to kill it, just sear it on the grill. CAME OUT PERFECT. Slight char on both sides, a special brown gravy on the side (which I had not asked for but was a delightful touch!). Absolutely perfect Texas size steak, Prime rib. Tender enough to cut with a fork. The grilled veges were two types of zucchini, and peppers with mashed Garlic Potatoes. Everything was great. Desert was a choice of alittle cup of chocoalte mousse, or a Cheese cake with berry dressing. The cheese cake was amazing! the table was chilled so the deserts were COLD on arrival. My date received a long stem rose after dinner. We did not feel rushed, the room was spacious enough to not feel crowded. We'll be back. read more
