Let me tell you what I didn't expect. Cajun food in St. George, Vermont. Okay not just Cajun food but pretty great Cajun food that isn't trying too hard and is served up by a staff of local youth who stay chipper and polite even as slammed as I saw them get both busy nights I was there. So far I've had the shrimp po'boy and the mufaletta, both of which were awesome. The mufaletta is ginormous, served on a traditional sesame bun and made two generous meals, during which I said "mmm, ummm, mm" a lot. The small size po'boy was also generous, which makes it a good deal at ten bucks. Fantastic shrimp, great aioli and toasted bread that was good -- maybe this is made from the pizza dough? -- though not the traditional baguette, and I'm a messy eater so there was a bit of a structural problem. Looking forward to trying the étouffée and the Cajun Mac n cheese. The honey cake was super. I may or may not have eaten my body weight in macarons. Don't judge me. I hear they also serve pizza and this is the town's local pizza joint. Lots of people came in to pick up their Friday night pies while I sat in the homey dining room and had my Cajun food. Pfft. This is a simple place with a counter to order and a handful of tables to sit at. We were staying nearby so I stopped in for lunch. Pretty large sandwich menu. I grew up here and never stopped, but now that they have macarons by Matryoshka's Bakery, it was the perfect time! My husband and I were visiting for our anniversary and Maryam baked our cake and macarons for our wedding! Of course Mama always says you have to eat your dinner before dessert, so we ordered our meal before jumping into the grand finale. We ordered a small thin crust White Pizza. It was very well balanced with cheese to crust ratio and the crust had a lovely crunch when you bit into it. We also ordered garlic Parmesan and honey BBQ wings. They're oven roasted, meaty, and juicy! Also, their ranch is SUPERB! It's a must have side order! We then ordered our macarons to go and they treated us to Russian Honey Cake for our anniversary- so so so fresh and delicious! I really like this place. The staff is friendly and helpful and the food is very good. It's awesome that it is only 10 minutes from our house, we will certainly be back. The first time we went, we had the thick crust pizza. It was hard to find the menu to order from, but now that the website is up, no worries! But their gumbo and jambalaya bowls are the best I've found in Vermont, and they have a variety of salads and desserts (the best macaroons!) This place is one of the best things about Hinesburg. Chris and Tracy are fabulous people and run a great neigborhood restaurant. The pizza is great and they always have some interesting soup and dinner specials as well. They also bring some great musicians to town and if you get the chance you shouldn't miss this opportunity to get up close and personal in a very intimate setting.
