You get detailed emails on exactly what your camper needs, drop offs and pickups are organized well, the atmosphere is cheerful, and there's an actual curriculum. Sometimes it feels like summer camps are just extended play sessions or babysitting centers, but there's some actual learning going on here, which I appreciated. But, keep in mind this camp is big. It's a full on school sized camp, and your camper can get lost. My little one was surrounded at recess by a bunch of older boys who were throwing balls at his head. They wouldn't let him leave, and while he had his hands up to try to protect himself, he eventually got hit, hard, by one boy who came along and said I'll get him. I feel like in a smaller camp this kind of bullying would have been noticed, but counselors didn't see until he had already been hurt. It sounds like he missed out on a greater part of the day since he was sitting in the office crying and with an eye pack over his eye. I'm disappointed that this was not reported to me the camp itself. He had a hit to his head and no one called me. At the very least I should have been told at checkout. I only learned of it once my little one developed a black eye and complained of headaches. The whole story only came out at the doctor's office. The camp needs to strive to have better communication with the parents.

When we brought this up to the staff they were unsurprised and knew exactly who the culprits were. Apparently this is a recurring problem in the camp. Since we moved to Chicago we have been doing our very best and paying out of pocket for him to get speech and occupational therapy. After just 2 months at Poko Loko and 3 separate instances of being called to pick up our son early due to screaming and hitting another child (he's 3 years old) we were patronizingly told by the owner Bonnie "in 52 years of experience I've only had to ask 2 other children to leave. You have until Fall." Statements like that aren't helpful, they make me feel bad about my son, and they are unprofessional. I seriously doubt that my son is the only difficult child they've had, and if so, then their experience is worthless, because they are unwilling to help or even give him time to settle in from a major transition like moving across the country. Before we were asked to leave the center, the manager and owner made no effort to guide us (52 years of experience right?), come up with an action plan, and offered no insight on local resources to help our son. They wanted us out. This review primarily addresses the Owner and manager. The teachers tried. The moral of the story is that they are simply looking for a frictionless tuition check while making little effort to actually help the parents and children. All while charging top dollar rates. I am very disappointed in the unprofessionalism and the downright rude way in which we were asked to leave the center. I made it known that the next time a child needs some help, offering more support and guidance using their years of experience might help the parents and kid more than a simple goodbye.

Nothing. Emails and phone calls not returned. Was contacted 2 days prior to party by the new coordinator only to be asked about the cake. Coordinator told my daughter, the birthday celebrant's mom, we had to be out of the room exactly at noon. We were pushed out at 1145.. why? They had their own party to go to. Will never opt for a party space that NEEDS to have a coordinator on site. Have used the field houses for parties before and will continue to use them again. OR will rent Oriole Pool party room and instead (as long as that particular "party planner" is NOT part of the deal) So terribly disappointed.

The older woman that looks to head this "open" volleyball seems to pick and choose when she would like others to take part. My friends and I have slowly started to participate in the open volleyball here, but have noticed that her attitude towards us participating is not very kind. We come from different suburbs in the Chicagoland area - not exactly close. But we're turned away because she felt that they couldn't let one more team play (even though other players told us we were welcome). Third week in a row we were given attitude while trying to take part in "open" volleyball. I would suggest MG park district try to come up with a sign up sheet or better method of signing up to partake in "open" volleyball. Because if I have to travel from far to only be told I cannot play, it should not be called "open" volleyball. We would have made other arrangements to play had we known we would be told we cannot play there. Instead we wasted 45 mins trying to arrange another court to play. Unprofessional and rude.
