We have 2 dogs, one is a dog reactive lab who without judgement is given accommodations the best they are able. We have 4 cats, 3 of whom are barn cats. They are helpful in working with me to determine what is feasible and reasonable for them. Our 4th cat is a very fractious tortie who has an autoimmune disease. Dr. Grimes has provided me more education than the internal medicine specialist we have seen for this cat. She also spent time and effort researching without us asking to figuring out how to reduce her GI and blood panels from $1000 to $600 by going directly through Texas A&M GI Lab rather than a typical lab service. Blood panels are expensive no matter where you go, I have never had a veterinarian spend this much time and energy fighting for us financially. I find this clinic to be one that empowers animal 'owners' to be able to provide the best care for their pets in a vast range of lifestyles. They clearly love animals and do everything they can to support the humans too. The vet techs and administrative team are kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. Our pets are our family. This clinic treats us like family too. There are 6 5-star reviews that 'aren't recommended, which if taken into consideration bring the rating for this clinic up to 4.3 stars.

Not sure if they just didn't like us but I do tend to ask a lot of questions when my pet is sick; I want to make sure I'm doing the best I can for them. I think a vet can be a great resource to understand what the issue may be, especially when you're paying hundreds of dollars for help. Every time we came here, they treated me like I was a nuisance and like they just wanted to win "the argument" rather than explain what I was wondering about. Very annoying and frustrating when I'm worried about my pet and just want to know what to do and they're worried about...??? I don't know. Trying to look good? I just want my pet to feel better. They also really pushed their own products ($$$) and higggghly discouraged buying them anywhere else. Hm... I also agree with the reviewers wondering if they get a commission for sending people to Loomis Basin because they're aggressive about going there specifically and no where else in an emergency. Not the kind of people you want on your side during an emergency. We don't go here anymore. It was convenient and close but the several vets I've seen at Northfork happily answer all my questions and then some and seem to actually care about animals over their ego and how much money they can suck out of you. In January of 2023 I took my cocker spaniel to motherlode veterinary for surgery to get a cancerous tumor removed. After the surgery I took her in to make sure everything was healing properly and the vet said yes everything looks fine. Several weeks later after the scar was more healed I noticed there was still a part of what looked like the tumor left. I then took her in again they tested it and said it was benign. I really did not think this was this case but I just wanted to believe so badly that she was cured and everything was fine. Several more weeks go by and I notice it's growing vastly so I call up another vet to get a second opinion in Auburn. I bring my dog there and they very clearly are like yea this is cancerous and needs to be removed immediately although your dog may not make it because of all the stress from the last surgery. Unfortunately she did not make it. If the vet at motherlode would have been honest about not removing the tumor all the way with initial surgery and also about it being cancerous I believe I would have had more time with her. I just think people should be aware of this. After this experience I personally would never recommend this veterinary hospital to anyone. 0 stars for me. I think they care more about your money than the actual pet.

I was actually referred to Dr. Van Geem by a third vet I took my pet to. He always seems to be very up on the latest research on many different diseases. He tends to be a bit on the serious and quiet side, but he has always been very helpful and even optimistic when things were not going so well with another cat I had who was very ill. He helped me keep her alive for many years beyond what other vets said was possible. His wife Erin is a sweet and steady presence in the front office, and I really love his staff. The best thing about his clinic is that he really encourages the owners to be present during procedures, and to be there with their pets when they come out of anestheia. I trust Dr. Van Geem more than any other vets I've seen in the area.

He's wonderful with our pets which include cats, a chihuahua with a heart condition and our rabbit. He has a great way with our pets, and his presence is calming to them. Obviously vet visits can be stressful for pets, so we are grateful for his tender care. He's been caring for our chihuahua who as mentions suffers from an enlarged heart. She's doing great with the medication he prescribed which is great because she's our lil fur baby and we adore her so much. She said yes, she can see the resemblance and that was the end of it. The next month, I picked up insulin for my dog without any issues and again the month after that, I picked up insulin for my dog, yet again without any issues. Then a few days ago, I called in his prescription and they said, that they would fill it. It was his last refill, before needing blood work done again. Then just 2 days ago, I received a voicemail, while I was asleep, saying that I am no longer a serviceable client, due to an incident in their office. If they are referring to the conversation that took place 3 months ago, it wasn't an incident, it was a conversation and if that's what they are referring to, why is it now an incident, 3 months after the fact? Regardless of their reasons, if they don't want me as a client, that's fine, but don't let my dog suffer without insulin, over a 3 month old complaint. They are the only Vet, that had my dog's records and therefore, it would cost me hundreds of dollars, just to have him seen at another Vet and to have a Blood Glucose Curve done. No new Vet, will just give you insulin for your dog, without an initial screening and without a Blood Glucose Curve. I work long hours and 6 days a week right now, so scrambling to find a Vet, that would see my dog in the next day or two, was gonna be a challenge and that's not even considering the monetary aspect of it. I had to come up with a few hundred dollars and find a Vet that would see him immediately, just to get his insulin, which he hasn't had in 2 days. I still had 1 refill for my dog, so I suggested that I pay over the phone and send a friend in, to pick it up, but they refused to release, his last refill. Diabetic dogs shouldn't go more than 2-3 days without insulin, as it could cause life threatening issues. So whatever the issue was, which wasn't bad at all, they blew it out of proportion and they were willing to let my dog die, all because they took the word of one of their staff members and didn't even hear my side of it. Professionally, they should have let me know, what the complaint was and allowed me to share my side of it. I am only guessing, that it was the conversation that took place 3 months ago. I was able to round up enough money and I found a Vet that would see him today, so I took him to the new Vet and paid for the initial visit and a bottle of insulin for my dog. They scheduled an appointment 2 weeks out, to do a Blood Glucose Curve for him, but they gave me a bottle of insulin anyways, to save my dog's life. Whatever the incident was, I can assure you, it wasn't inappropriate, or sexual in nature. Even if she felt uncomfortable about it, why complain about it 3 months later? Why choose to not treat my dog, over something that I may, or may not have said, without hearing my side of it? I still don't even know what's it's about. Either way, they were gonna let my dog die, because if I wasn't able to come up with the money, or find a Vet that would see him immediately, he would have continued to go without his insulin. Not wanting me as a client is fine. Letting my dog suffer, or die, is not fine. I was even willing to pay for the insulin, over the phone and have a friend pick it up, but even that was denied. Luckily, I found another Vet, that was able to see him and they gave me a bottle of insulin to take home and scheduled the Blood Glucose Curve, for 2 weeks out. They saved my dog's life. I won't mention the Vet that saved my dog's life, not in this negative post, as I don't want anyone to be confused on who the negative post is about. I will write about, the positive experience that I had with the rescuing Vet, in a separate review. I don't usually write reviews, but this was about my dog and his life wasn't valued enough, to even get his last refill. I get defending your staff, but I did nothing wrong and still don't even know for sure, what the complaint was about. Even so, my dog could have died, because of the complaint, that if I am right, wasn't even an incident.
