First of all , for anyone needing these services , I am so sorry and my heart goes out to you . I am so very thankful for Dr.Flinn. She was able to come to our house the same day I called her crying asking for her help. My sweet innocent little puppy that I only had for a month was diagnosed with a terminal illness ( distemper encephalitis) and was suffering from new onset , frequent seizures despite being on multiple seizure medications. This was our first experience with euthanasia so we have nothing else to compare to. However, Dr. Flinn was extremely thorough, responsive, accommodating, and patient with us through the euthanasia of our beloved Blossom. Our 12 year old Maltese took a turn for the worse in recent months and we felt like no amount of treatment could return her to an acceptable quality of life considering she's gone through 3 major surgeries and has arthritis. She was barely alert and was being force fed water & food. Near the end of her life, we were giving her IV fluids twice a day to just keep her alive. It was time we let go. However, VCA Elk Grove (although cheaper in pricing) was extremely cold about the whole situation and we didn't want Blossom to be scared in her final hours. I bombarded Dr. Flinn with a number of questions and she always responded within hours of my emails. Questions ranged anywhere from process to pricing. e.g. What if we wanted to be present at time of cremation. We definitely had a clear understanding of all our options. On the date of the event, Dr. Flinn was punctual yet allowed us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes and process each step of the procedure. After Blossom's passing, she was patient as my mom performed Buddhist chants and rituals. She allowed the whole procedure to be performed with my mom holding Blossom so she was comforted the whole time. We were so grateful that we were not rushed and was able to see our beloved family member off the way we did. Understanding that my parents had to leave town, Dr. Flinn made sure that there was quick turnaround with Blossom's remains and hand delivered her urn at 8 PM today. Euthanasia occurred Saturday evening (~3 days turnaround). In July 2016, I had to make the very difficult decision to euthanize my 13-year-old golden retriever, Jezebelle. Jez was not able to stand without assistance, had lost her appetite, and her tail was no longer wagging. I wanted to make sure I didn't rush with this decision and waited for the "signs" that it was time. I knew the time had come and my girl was suffering and ready. I had called a number of different vets in the area, including my regular vet (who I'll post review on later) and decided that euthanasia at home would be best for several reasons. Jez weighed more than I could possibly lift. I was using a towel sling to help her stand and ambulate. This hurt my already trashed shoulder and spine. I prayed for strength to continue caring for her. The local vet had recently euthanized my other dog, a Maltese named Sushi, in April, and the experience was cold, rushed and, although I was allowed time after to hold him, Sushi deserved so much more then how he was treated and how he passed in his last days in this earthly world. I have much regret. I am SO GRATEFUL to have found Dr. Flinn! I wanted Jez to be euthanized in a humane way where it would not be stressful to her, and she could pass in my arms, in the home she had spent her whole life in, laying on an air mattress, on blankets, with me praying and talking to her the entire time, talking about swimming parties, and tennis balls, and all the joys she loved. Jez did not show any signs of pain, discomfort, or stress. She fought long and hard to stay with me...but, it was time. There was no rushing. Dr. Flinn waited until I was ready. She explained everything that was taking place. She allowed me ample time, alone, to hold Jez after she passed, while her spirit lifted. Then she and my son carried her out, respecting her physical body all the while. A few days later, I received a sympathy card. None was sent for Sushi, a 12 lb dog, who cost twice as much to euthanize. I regret so much that I did not know Dr. Flinn with my Sushi. Dr. Flinn is very kind and compassionate. I would definitely recommend Dr. Flinn to anyone having to face this very difficult decision. In home euthanasia is more humane then a cold exam room, and being taken away from your human to have an IV put in your arm, and then brought back, barely lucid, hurried to begin the procedure while Sushi was still licking my arm, and comforting me. They had other clients to attend to and treated Sushi coldly. This was not what he deserved in the last days of his life and in his passing. Again I recommend Dr. Flinn and I'm thankful and grateful. I can't imagine how difficult her job must be, and the price she charges shows she's not in it for just the money, as many unfortunately are. We adopted a hospice dog a year ago. He ended up being with us much longer than we expected, and even though we adopted him knowing we'd say goodbye sooner than later, it was still painful. It's also extremely emotional scheduling putting your pet to sleep. Still, if you have that option, I recommend it. We said goodbye to Alfred in our backyard, his favorite place. Karina was kind and made a very tough situation as good as it could be. She also left for a bit so our other dogs could come out and process what had happened, a luxury you don't have when you have to take a dog to a vet.
