Recently, though, I'd been growing my hair out for about a month and she flat-out refused to cut it. Instead, she told me to find a barber. I'm convinced it was a little revenge, since I refused to cut my hair the week before--which also happened to be our 5th anniversary of dating (and 2 years of marriage). We went to a nice restaurant... and I wore a beanie. Not my finest moment. That's how I ended up booking a same-day appointment with Chuy on 12/23/25, grabbing his last slot at 5:45 PM. I work in Cupertino and got off at 5:15 PM, so I knew timing would be tight. I texted Chuy ahead of time to let him know I might be about 15 minutes late and asked if he could still take me. He was super accommodating and moved my appointment to 6:00 PM. Traffic still got me, and I arrived about 3 minutes late, but Chuy was totally cool about it. He listened to exactly what I wanted, took his time, and absolutely delivered. When he was done, I looked like a completely new person. However the haircut experience left me feeling like there is a lot of room for improvement. (1) Henry was over 10 minutes late to my haircut, no problem but didn't get the feeling he felt sorry at all (2) the cut felt rushed and even when blowing hair it just flies everywhere including in my eyes. (3) the haircut was over in under 20 minutes. I was out exactly at 2:30pm even though the cut itself started around 2:12pm (4) while Henry was consistent with the style I asked for the cut was not short enough (asked for a 1 on the side and back) and overall lots of uneven hair spots. I came out of there fully relaxed and fully bald, with a beard that was more "competent adult man" and less "lived in the forest alone for a decade". You remember how your grandfather had a Study? A special room just for him and your dad? It was quiet, smelled nice, and was very definitely a place kids were not allowed to go? Well this is the barbershop that caters to that style. It's small. It's quiet and understated. The waiting chairs are comfortable leather, not special plastic backwards-leg things that the latest yoga magazines rave about. They won't give you a complimentary boba tea or latte, they WILL offer you a cold beer or water, or a slug of good tequila or whiskey. They don't play pop music or the next great hit. They don't play any music at all. Just the snip of scissors, the buzz of clippers, and quiet conversation. It's supremely relaxing. The one thing it needed to be perfection itself is a friendly shop dog to greet customers and get head scritches while your barber does his exemplary work (and it is exemplary), but even without that, this is THE place to get your hair and beard taken care of. This is a BARBER shop, not a stylist parlor. I highly recommend it. Things to note: I was a walk-in, but was lucky enough to come in when there was an open spot. If you pass it often, no problem, but if you're making a special trip, get an appointment. They don't take credit, only cash or payment app (Zelle, etc.). Ask them to get a shop dog when you go in!
