Super friendly service. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and the place was well-staffed with very cool employees. The atmosphere is nice, too, and I appreciated the poster on one wall explaining the meaning of "Grist House". You can bring dogs too! Some very nice dogs were present on this particular Saturday. Yeah, that's the vibe I was getting at Velum. There was a lot to like and a lot to not like about this place, so I'll start with the bad and end on a positive note. First off, it's in an old brewery and it looks like a warehouse. I'm not sure if they still brew their own beers but it straight up looks like an old warehouse. I've seen abandoned warehouses that look less like a warehouse than Velum. Maybe some people like that vibe but I felt like the cops were going to bust in and shut the party down like a teen coming-of-age movie. The taproom is all the way in the back, and so are the bathrooms, so if you break the magic circle, prepare to get your steps in. There's no kitchen. They DO partner with a food truck but they're getting their own review. I paid $10 for an average cocktail and $8 for a 12 oz cider that frankly wasn't that great. Either better drinks or bigger drinks, please. And everything is community seating. I don't hate the idea but I didn't care for the vibe so when I found a smaller table my friend and I grabbed it and boarded it. With that being said, there was a lot to like too. First off, we were there for a pinball night, and they have a great selection of pinball tables there, both classic and modern. I really would have liked information on joining a pinball league, but that wasn't offered anywhere that I could find. Plus on that particular night it was $10 for all-you-can-play, so we definitely got our money's worth there. The staff that I did interact with were super nice. That goes a long way and saved this from being a worse review. And the place is dog friendly, which is always a huge plus for me. All in all, I had a decent night. However, the floors are insanely slippery -- to the point that if you were playing quick plays or rapidly accelerating, I would be extremely cautious. Additionally, it's not clear when the floors transition from the smooth, slippery surface to a rough concrete where you could catch your feet. Between the 2 side by side courts, there's also a random pot hole/divot where you could easily roll your ankle. However, this brewery also offers exciting other experiences: arcade games including ping pong, pinball, etc., rock climbing upstairs, live sports TV, and obviously drinks as a bar. As a multi-faceted facility, there's a lot that you can do here. They also have a bunch of colorful murals, like the one of Mac Miller (rip) and of V for Velum. There's also free parking outside the facility and by the apartment complexes.
