However, the shelves are extremely packed with merchandise, which may be related to the pricing. Many items feel overpriced for a community thrift store, which likely slows down how quickly things move off the shelves. The layout is also a bit confusing. It almost feels like two completely separate stores. Furniture and home goods are on one side, while clothing is in a different area. What makes it more unusual is that you cannot pay for clothing on the home goods side, or home goods on the clothing side. You also have to go outside to enter each section. It seems like this setup requires twice as many volunteers and makes the shopping experience less convenient. The pricing on the clothing side is actually very good, but the organization is quite poor. I found high-end men's shirts, such as Brooks Brothers, mixed in with women's clothing. There were several other similar examples of items being misplaced, which made browsing more difficult. I have visited multiple times before writing this review because I hoped that, after the expansion, the shopping experience would improve. That in itself told me that one hand knows what the other is doing, and it's obviously really organized. Second, when we went in the thrift store side, it smelled clean. On that side, they were super nice too, and my eBay purchase pick up was super smooth. Purchases that you make their go toward providing food for people who need services from the food pantry. Even the eBay purchases go toward that. I feel better about a purchase if something good comes out of it for somebody else too. That's important to me and my family. The clothing selection is especially good--better brands, excellent condition, no stains or tears, and often items that are brand new or look like they've barely been worn. Beyond clothing, I've found beautiful crystal and china, quality glassware and serving pieces, decorative items, books in wonderful condition, puzzles, children's toys and clothing, and some truly gorgeous furniture. The furniture, in particular, is often top-quality and priced far below what I would expect. The store itself is clean, organized, and easy to shop. I never feel like I have to dig through piles of damaged or worn-out items to find something worthwhile. What really sets Better ATX apart, though, is the people. The volunteers are friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about what they're doing. Every visit feels welcoming. I often run into familiar faces, and it's not unusual to end up having a pleasant conversation with a volunteer I've never met before. As someone who relies on thrift stores to help stretch my budget for clothing and household items, I appreciate places that offer genuine value.
