How did I not get a chance to review the Goodwill location in downtown Sacramento? This has to be my favorite Goodwill location I've been too. There's always a good find here. Of course the service isn't that good as it's a thrift store yet the clothing I find here with the price is unbeatable. I also appreciate the book selections here, it's amazing. I recently bought a Levi's sweater for $10, and am looking forward to the cool weather to wear it! So this is technically a Goodwill store, but it's nothing like ones I've been to elsewhere. The wife says it's a "sophisticated" version of the typical Goodwill I go to sometimes to find certain DVDs (yup, I still prefer DVDs to streaming) and books, so it explains why it looks so different here. Doesn't really matter to me either way, as I'm not all that interested in clothes and shoes which this Goodwill had the most of from a quick scan. I went straight to the DVD section and they had a decent selection of several genres that I was interested in. I have a few collections of DVDs and add to them when I can. I also look for child and family-friendly ones so I can watch together with my kids or let them watch on their own. They have some books here, but not a lot, and limited genres, but a decent amount, but I didn't see any that was interesting enough to bring home with me. On certain days, there's a 50% discount based on the color of the sticker, so that's a bonus, and I happen to find a few DVDs I wanted to get that was half off. Check out was quick and the cashier guy was friendly. As for the rest of the store, they have lots of home stuff and some electronics in the back, and as mentioned earlier, a ton of clothes and shoes to choose from if you're a serious shopper. Parking is street only, so be ready to pay by meter/app. All in all, this is a nice Goodwill that's "special," but to me it just a fancier looking one, as long as they keep stocking items that are of interest to me, I'll keep coming back. read more

Adj: Still Somewhat Steep, but Swanky Store. Wow it's been almost 10 years since I last reviewed this Goodwill store! So much in the world has changed, but not this Goodwill. I continue to think of this one as a boutique store, or "Goodwill Reserve®" like Starbucks Reserve® lol.... anyways, so this is a higher-end more swanky, store that's great if you're more spendy in your thrifting. Most of the store is still clothing like at most other stores, but you won't find as many appliances, practical houseware, toys (things for kids in general as there aren't as many families downtown as in residential tract-home neighborhoods), or books, there's no furniture on sale here. What they do have is there's a lot of nicer, better quality, and name-brand clothes sold here, as another reviewer said, apparently this Goodwill shops from the cream of the crop that comes into the other Goodwill stores' donations and then it's priced higher and put on sale here. That totally makes sense. Anyhow, on this day, I did some browsing and saw nicer purses and shoes, and lots of fine china and nicer kitchenware here in addition to the better clothes on sale. There was also a decent size CDs and DVDs section closer to the front of the store right by the cashiers. We got a few DVDs for our kids and the cashier was friendly, helpful, and quick. I had a few good finds today. A pair of 2 Petite beige name brand pants that fit perfect. The swimsuit didn't fit so well a little too small. I'll return it tomorrow at Lunch time. This time I hope not to loose the credit slip. I lost the last one and that was $14.99. OPPs, they are so easy to lose. I think I'll just buy something else while I'm there tomorrow. There were 2 other pairs of pants that caught my eye. I love having some retail therapy at lunch time after a trying day at work. It's so much cheaper than psycho therapy. The down side is they don't have a changing room so it's iffy if something will fit and look good. Last time I took the pants back to work and tried them on in our bathroom and then had to return 1 pair of shorts and that's the credit receipt that I lost. I need a better system. Bathroom. They have one, but I'm not sure if it's open to the public. This is a really convenient store for me as I can walk there at lunch. Waking is the way to go. Parking is quite tough in this downtown location. Parking is mostly all metered, but here is a parking lot on the street too, but that is also paid. I'm sorry, but I don't know the price. Parking on the weekend can be better as you aren't competing with the workers that are parking on the street. I don't believe you can park free on Sundays like you used to be able too. If you like thrifting, but have limited time and more resources you may find this goodwill just the goodwill for you. This isn't your cheap thrift store, it can be kind of pricy. Tops start at $9.99 and go up to $15.99. Bathing suits are also from $9.99 to $15.99. They do have lots of cute swimsuits. They shop the other goodwills and hand pick the newest and most fashionable clothing. Most of it is kind of dressy and perfect for work. There isn't a lot of ultra casual wear such as Tshirts and loungewear. I go mostly for tops to wear to work. I used to find a lot of dresses here, but without being able to try them on it's not worth it. It's too much of a hit and miss. Tops are much easier to guess my size and style. If you're like me and love some retail therapy on your lunch break then this is the place for you. read more

Wow, this place is Giant for boutique style Goodwill! Service: attentive, way better workers than the normal Goodwill. Not a long line so to register fast. Selection: great amount of clothes. Sorted by size which is a plus. Plenty of women's clothes, not much men. Was hoping to find a good suit for my son for prom. Reason I gave you five stars is because they actually have a plus size section. And it was amazing. Got tons of stuff for my daughter for Coachella. Value: was a bit overpriced, sell some things in there that were from lower end stores. I probably could've bought the same thing at the lower end store. Haven't visited L St. Goodwill location in many years. While inflation, leases and fair wages affect every part of our society, I was surprised at the cost of some of clothing items. The prices surpassed the likes of Ross and Marshall's. Besides being missions based, I'm not sure how Goodwill will be able to sustain their business model by charging retail prices for used clothing, unless clothing isn't a significant revenue contributor. read more

Bought these because they were the only ones in my size and style. walked to my car and tried them on, to only find out they were a size 4 and 1/2. Immediately, I went to return and got denied a refund or exchange because "shoes are final sale." Wasted money because of a worker who put the wrong tag on it. read more

Wow what a Goodwill! It felt more like a boutique thrift store. So clean, so so organized, and really great pieces. I would go back here again and again. It was surprisingly busy for a goodwill, and then I found out all clothing and shoes were 50% off the day I went. So many people and I still found some incredible pieces. The staff were peppy and always moving always working. They have an incredibly large book selection, *very* organized, and I really love the shelving situation they have. I cannot believe I got two wool pieces and a cotton dress for the price I paid. Very high quality pieces and I walked out spending less than a tank of gas. Amazing. This used to be my go to place for great prices on brand named clothing. However they now carry fewer top brands and the prices are very high compared to other thrifts. What is most upsetting is that they have completely eliminated their dressing rooms (and put dvds and cds in that space) due to theft. However, multiple times I've been in here at night (and sometimes during the day) and people blatantly walk out with a bunch of items. I was just in there tonight at closing and a couple transient men had a bundle of items gathered up. I mentioned to the employee that the guys looked like they were about to run off with the goods. The employee admitted that was likely going to happen. I feel bad because the employees are amazing. In summary: higher prices on low grade brands, no dressing rooms and the items are still walking out the front door. My suggestion for Goodwill of Greater Sacramento Valley: put more light in this store and add security. The light would help with safely and shopping, The security would help keep this place the gem of a shopping experience it once was. read more

Returned a pair of jeans for store credit (normally would not have bothered but since they raised their prices so much...). Came weekly looking to use my store credit. 2 months later found an item only to be told at checkout the receipt they gave me for my credit was missing something. After 30 min of them not figuring it out I left after they said they'd call when it was fixed. They never called. I called them only to be told the receipt was for a purchase not a return. But it's the receipt they gave me. I only made 1 purchase there in the last year, so basically they screw up and I gave them my money in exchange for a bunch of bs. Needless to say, I don't recommend shopping here. I work hard for my money, thanks for stealing it. How does this help the underprivileged? More like Badwill. read more

The best thrifting in Sac or at least top tier. This is the boutique. They have kinda nicer stuff here. I got some Halloween stuff here like a wig and Wednesday Addams dress. I've stopped in here on my way to work for a new outfit when I didn't have time to bring one from home. They do have changing rooms. They also have homeless people but that's kinda the point. Just be careful some can be a little nuts. Good deals typically just gotta look around. And good service. read more

This is my favorite goodwill to shop at in Sacramento. They have some great finds. It also is not as big so it's less overwhelming.

I tried to give away the clothes to non profits but didn't receive answers from most and didn't fulfill the conditions for acceptance from others Either my suits were older than 5 years ( I wore expensive classic suits) or were not freshly cleaned. I've gotta admit, I haven't stepped into a Goodwill store in a very long time. And I almost regret waiting so long! Truth be told, this Midtown Sacramento location ain't no typical thrift store. In fact, most of the items here are in near-new condition with quality, name-brand merchandise. Located directly on L St. and in between 16th & 17th St's, this is the only Goodwill Industries that is in the heart of the Midtown/Downtown part of Sacramento. Parking can be challenging as there is street parking (free on Sunday) and a nearby parking lot with a $5 flat rate. The outside has only one small door with the business name. But once inside, this store is extremely spacious and has quite a bit of store footage. You will find two public restrooms (that require a key to eliminate homeless/vagrants) as well as three fitting rooms. What is interesting is that much of the men's and women's clothing is blended in but everything is categorized very simple. You will also see an entire section of shoes, children's clothes, hats, and scarves. They even have a very sizable amount of books, music, movies (available in DVD's & Blu Rays), kitchen items, and collectibles. On the day I came (which was on a late Saturday afternoon), I scored some really great deal. This included a Calvin Klein polo shirt, a nice black Van Heusen sweater, and a pair of Lucky Brand jeans, all in excellent condition. The prices are also very reasonable as I was able to buy all 3 articles of clothing for around $30 after tax. Overall, this Goodwill is definitely one of the better locations I've been to. Great service, excellent selection, and a location where you can shop for clothes and then enjoy a bite to eat at some amazing local restaurants all within a block away. Whenever I am in the midtown area of Sacramento. I have to stop in this particular store. This is a goodwill boutique, and I love it! I find some thing in this store every time. We stopped in here before we headed back home. This time I was able to find a brand new bathing suit which is perfect timing in at a perfect price. When you shop here there are also dressing rooms that you able to try on your clothing pieces or restrooms to the lies if you are a customer of theirs. They have a shoe selection, clothing selection as well as movies and DVDs and a household selection. If you are an individual that's always looking for a bargain as I am, then go ahead and stop in this spot. This location may change your point of you of any other Goodwill location. read more

Didn't realize this was a boutique by just looking up 'Goodwill'! I found out either by Instagram or Facebook. The store is pretty well organized, but the selection for clothes is quite small, and the prices are higher than other Goodwills. They have a pretty good selection of books though, especially educational books and textbooks. The books were not very organized outside of book category. Workers were friendly! There's free 1- and 2-hour parking depending on which block you drive to (to the right side of the store). You definitely don't need to pay for the meter! read more

This is by far the best Goodwill in Sacramento. It is the boutique, slightly more expensive, but because each of the items are carefully curated by hand. Higher ticket items are stocked in the store. We are often visiting the downtown area for numerous reasons, but our main goal was to check out Halloween costumes. A friend recommended this place in particular because they were carrying a large selection of various used costumes, but also had brand new products, make up and accessories. I was impressed at the amount of clothing, shoes, hats and wigs that were available! When it comes to shopping at thrift stores, you never know what you are going to find, especially in your size. Even though they didn't have anything that I could make use of to fit me, it was still a fun shopping exploration! And I emerged with lots of ideas to think about! I always appreciate the Goodwill concept no matter where I find a store. We have places to donate used or even unused clothing and other items instead of throwing them out in the garbage. Some select Goodwill stores will also accept e-waste products! The thought of throwing out perfectly reusable stuff makes me sad and even cringe to think it all goes into a land fill somewhere. As our populations grow, so does the amount of garbage we produce. And even our city does very little to recycle most of it! So it makes sense to at least contribute what you don't want towards others who can appreciate it themselves for a nominal fee. And remember folks, you can still use your donations as a tax write off! read more

Can you say "Thrifting & e-Waste drop-off"? SITREP Just as much as I enjoy getting rid of my "fat clothes", I also enjoy getting a good deal on the sometimes very random items I find while "thrifting." Goodwill Industries has always been a reliable outlet for achieving both these ends. DROP-OFF & CLOTHES SELECTIONS To it's credit, Goodwill Industries has one of the best and most efficient systems in place to obtain good used clothes, and make them available to those in need - or those like me looking for classic styles no longer in vogue in the commercial stores -and at VERY reasonable price. I have noted that a lot of clothing from estate-sales seems to end up here which is why I've found a couple of really good suits and spat shoes from the 50s and 60s eras. E-WASTE But it doesn't end there. To it's credit, Goodwill Industries is a certified vendor authorized to receive your "e-waste": your old computer, old electronics, etc. etc., that you should not be putting in the regular trash - because of compounds and chemicals that may leech out into our water & environment eco-systems - if they were to end up at the municipal garbage dumps and landfills. Definitely one of the nicest, most trendy Goodwills I've ever bee to! And so many of these super hip places are off random streets in Midtown it's so funny, you'd never know. My friend who's a local here now took me here in high recommendation for books and she was not wrong. I've never seen so many recent release books in such good shape at a Goodwill store. They also had a ton of CDs from all different genres and eras. We spent so much time sifting through it all and definitely didn't leave empty handed. The brick walls and sturdy organization made this feel like a San Fransisco high quality bargain shop rather than just a Goodwill. I felt safe and very comfortable browsing here! Only reason for 4 stars is because the women's clothing selection was scarce and very not my style. Would recommend otherwise. read more

I came here about three weeks ago to buy frames to frame my art work but was disappointed by their selection. Most of the frames were these Miller Lite Beer frames and were priced at $7.99. But there are a lot of positives about this new Goodwill store. For one thing, they do have better merchandise than what a customer is generally accustomed to when it comes to shopping at the Goodwill. They have a pretty good selection of DVDs and CDs. The DVDs and CDs were priced at $4.99 and $3.99 respectively. I was able to find The Namesake brand new for only $4.99. The book selection is okay and were cheaply priced at $1.49 to $2.49 each and I was able to find a retractable dog leash for about $5.98, where it normally sells at any retail store for twice that amount. Although the Goodwill has gotten pricier, their merchandise has gotten a lot better and it is still possible for long-time customers to find bargains and cheap deals if they are willing to look for it. read more
