I will say that no two "Goodwill" stores are created equal. And this one is absolutely no exception. Reason being is that this particular location is where the very first "Tower Records" once stood as well as being the first free-standing music store that once stood from 1960-2009. It was the primary go-to spot for vinyl records, cassette tapes, CD's, books, and one of the spots to purchase concert tickets before online was even a thing. Jump forward to the present day and Goodwill did a fairly decent job keeping the floorspace intact. Additionally, the large neon light that reads the Tower Records - It's A Global Thing as well as the lettering that reads "Classical" (where classical music was once sold) is still intact and being shown for all to see. Located at the Country Club Plaza on busy Watt Ave in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, this Goodwill neighbors Country Club Lanes and a Popeye's fast food restaurant. However, Sam's Hof Brau has been closed indefinitely due to a fire that struck there back in 2023. I will say that a major caveat is the cramped parking lot. When you park, you are so close to other vehicles to a point where you fear getting a door-ding. Therefore, I parked far away hoping nobody parks close to me; even more so since my car is still relatively new. The donation area is to the immediate right and on any given day, it can create a small traffic nightmare on the busier days. As for the interior layout of this Goodwill, everything is well laid out and easily accessible. This location is also quite larger than some of the other Goodwill's in the greater Sacramento area which allows for more merchandise to be placed inside. I will say that the clothing/apparel selection is organized but a major drawback is that there are no fitting rooms available. When I approached an employee, he told me that you can buy your merchandise then try it on in the bathroom (located at the very rear of the store). And if it doesn't work, you may return it. To me, that is kind of backwards as it can create more of a hassle than having an actual fitting room. At least I left without buying any clothes. All in all, the Country Club "Goodwill" on Watt Ave is just average at-best for me. Some of the electronics and/or appliances looked like they didn't even work which tells me if you're really getting your money's worth or not. With that said and done, your mileage may vary but you just might come across a hidden treasure. Therefore, I am giving this Goodwill just an average three-star rating. The hours though are respectable as they are open 7 days a week from 9am-9pm. Finally, I dearly miss Tower Records but its a sign of the times in this ever-changing world that we live in. read more

I went to the Goodwill on 4/8/25 around 5:30,pm. As I went to the check out register. A female employee with brown hair and glasses was very rude in her tone of voice saying that I was supposed to stand underneath an arrow that was hanging down from the ceiling. Her face was all scrunched up with an attitude like appearance. I informed the employee at the cash register about this. The Manager was Cashing out another employee's cash drawer. I consider myself to be a little bit of a GW connosieur as I visit all of them near and far on a regular basis spending $$$ in the last ten years and this one is better than average. GW prices are based on demographics so this location tends to be a little cheaper. Besides that, this store is generally clean and employees are always tidying up. Some stores have piles of messes but this one never does. I also find the employees to be friendly and helpful. Can't always say that at others. Now the bad is the parking lot is TIGHT. Came here during opening, going about my business. I hear workers having a conversation that caught my ear... going back and forth speaking, then whispering... speaking about a "Black flamboyant" customer, that steals and fills up his duffle bag etc. When going into the dressing room which was unlocked for me by "Julie"....she keeps repeating its 6 items to go in. You are right there... check the item count if you are questioning....It was 6 items- Before I had went in the dressing room she was doing the same thing to the lady who went in before me. "She responded with "OkkaYyy" because it's harassing and a accusatory tone. That statement is clearly posted on the doors as well. I had a belt and a jacket extra i did not take in. After the dressing room... An older lady (maybe 60-70) is paying at the counter in front of me the same worker "Julie" starts having a conversation with her how an item is priced wrong. The conversation is being addressed as if she changed the price. Its my turn to pay, she is ringing items then comes to the jacket that was priced at $6-7.99 the tag fell off, it was in the basket. She says she must get the manager for this and a price check. She said the size doesn't match, which it did. I looked at the tag and just laughed. The manager came out about 5 minutes later. I am HEATIED now. Because the whole attitude in the store is people are stealing, even paying customers who DO NOT feel welcome when you are just there to shop. I let her know the tag was in the basket. The manager and her whisperer something under their breath, the manager then responded that the jacket should reflect $9.99- LOL I never took it into the dressing room. I got it off the last rack by the registers I advised to CHECK THE CAMERAS. The whole situation is a joke... and extremely unprofessional and UNCLASSY all the way around. I'm writing this review because this goodwill does NOT get enough credit. I have no idea how the Goodwill on L street has more stars than this one. They are SUPER overpriced and have rude young people working at the L Street one. Not to mention they don't even carry children's clothes or toys. Super lame. I have been going to this goodwill for years, I'm talking 2013. I've gotten SO many good deals from this Goodwill it's hard to wrap my head around! I used to sell things I got from Goodwill on eBay and I would triple my profit or MORE. I could easily make 500-800 a month doing it but I never had the time. I've gotten brand new Nike sports bras in galaxy print, camo print, all black, etc for like $2.50 each before. Sold them on eBay for $15 each. The people who work here are nice, it's the same people who have worked there for years. They are so sweet. I've gotten brand new clothes with tags on them still from Target, Torrid, urban outfitters, Walmart, Forever 21, ETC. I find children's Vans every single time I go there for $4.50. I've gotten all of my 4 year olds vans from goodwill. I would never pay $30-40 for new vans. I recently just found Yes We Vibe boots from here, they were $150 online. I bought them for $12 here. I have bought all the seasons of House MD from here, lots of children's books, lots of DVD's, I've bought sooo many toys from here for my child. I've gotten legos, a buzz lightyear, Melissa and Doug puzzles and toys, action figures, you name it! They have great women's plus size clothing!!! I'm between an XL and a 1X in tops and I have found CUTE AF clothing here. You can't just look at the first 5 though and give up, you have to actually look through the whole rack usually. I've gotten so many cute clothes from here that I would usually pay 20-50 for easily! They usually have great kids clothes too I have gotten 50% of my 4 year olds wardrobe from goodwill. I find unique things, I always find the cat and jack target brand when I'm there. He's a little hippy boy and I find the cutest things here. We have matching tie dye shirts. Today is Tuesday 6/13/2023 My husband and I went there today just to look. Had a couple of things in our cart and nothing biggy. The cashier asked me if I was ready and I said not yet. There was a lady and her daughter around us and we continued to looked around when we decided to get on line the cashier wasn't wasn't there and she saw us and she said she was coming. The lady and her daughter was on the other side and a guy said we were on line, I said I didn't know. I asked the cashier if she knew they were on line she said no I did not. The guy behind the two ladies said to me we can read the line is over here. I told him I can read as well you don't have to be a smart ass. The cashier told me let's not do that. I told her you can keep your junk and I will never come back here. Worst service and rude cashier ever. This was around mid morning Tuesday. I hope she gets fired. read more

This place is terrible! We went there to drop off a few bags of clothes. First there was 2 cars parked two the sides with 3 groups putting in cloths with no organization at all. I pull up and begin putting in clothes. After we were done, two workers began bad mouthing. If there was a protocol you were told to follow then perhaps have the confidence to do your job and direct people Instead of standing off to the side bad mouthing. The second issue, which is the much worse issue. While walking around the store, in the far back there were multiple kitchen knives in wooden sets. These knives are not secured, or strapped down. I was able to freely pull out sharp knives. In the hands of children that could be devastating, or possibly a disgruntled customer. Yet they keep there 5 dollar jewelry locked safely in a glass case..... priorities... read more

My family and I came here to shop. We were all wearing masks except for my disabled daughter. Unfortunately, this organization does not adhere to the ADA; no reasonable accommodation provided, only a wear a mask or leave. We did not make a fuss, we left. It's a sad day in America when people are discriminated against for their disabilities.....such a shame. We will not be back, even when things normalize. Used to find amazing deals here now it's a complete waste of time and a joke. Saw 3 different thefts take place and the workers just shrugged. Saw a man stuff ladies underwear in his pants today. Would be worth going if they had kept their prices decent but am finding too many tops that are beat up for $7.99. They seem to have recently acquired some new shopping carts that are the exact width of their aisles so you're constantly battling and hitting racks because they didn't account for how narrow the aisles are. Don't get me started on the toy section - used to have some sort of organization but now it's just junk tossed everywhere without bags or boxes and litters the floor where you trip or your cart gets stuck. read more

Went to this goodwill location and was treated in a very rude behavior by a certain "Julie". I read other people's reviews and apparently I'm not the only one! I don't want her to be out of a job but I think with her rude and condescending behavior she should be working in the back where customers don't need to deal with her up front at the cash register. 1st off she's up your case screaming across the entire store "6 items at a time for the dressing room". Lady this is so embarrassing, I'm not here to steal stuff, I can read the door sign, stop assuming we are illiterate here. 2nd of all I hear her tone of voice towards customers who have heavy accents and their English isn't the best, she is basically mocking them in a demeaning tone, huffing and puffing making them very embarrassed . 3rd off if she notices a good item when you're checking out up front she yanks it to the back to show the manager and ups the price! Turning you away from purchasing the item! Is this even legal!"? I want to purchase the price it's marked as but she proceeds to do this. I went to this Goodwill location in search of some wall art for the office of one of the managers at work. I was surprised to see the old Tower Records signage inside because I had no idea what the location previously was. I thought it was cool that they kept that part of Sacramento history alive. I liked how this location was super organized and separated. They had a room full of books, racks and racks of nicely hung clothing, and another room full of household goods, decorations, children's toys and electronics. It must be noted that this Goodwill doesn't have a good selection of new merchandise, shoes and furniture so if that's what you are looking for I would suggest another location. This Goodwill store is not in the best location in town so I was a little apprehensive about coming here, but the inside was nicer than I thought. If you are into the whole thrift store shopping experience then I would recommend stopping by this location. Prices were ok, I did find the wall art I was looking for for $4.99 but there was some other wall art I had my eye on as well which I felt was overpriced at $15-20. read more

While much more organized than many other goodwill locations, this one still has its overstocked out of control feel, especially at Halloween time. The smell that reminds me so heavily of all thrift stores and DMV is very strong and disappointing. Is it the clothes, the people the pity that floats through the air? Who knows, shirts are a dollar so really who cares. While wandering around the store as my wife shopped and yelled at my kids I decided to check out the "facilities", with hesitation I might add. Believe it or not, very clean and HAD a very minty and pleasant aroma to the men's restroom. I say HAD because I Had hometown buffet for dinner and by all accounts that smell is no more. One other positive is the size of the only stall to rest my elbows on my knees straighten my back and release. It's Huge. And not luxury handicapped stall huge I mean it could be 3 closterphobic shitters wide huge. I love me a big stall and this is the biggest Well done goodwill, well done!! read more

The winter is coming and that means more indoor, movie watching time. This is the place to go for DVDs -- they have a huge selection of used and some new movies -- that you actually want to watch! Plus, you don't have to worry about buying scratched up discs as they let you inspect them at the time of checkout! They have cool clothes, but I'm taking a star away as they don't organize them by size!! Plus, the sizes themselves are hard to find once you spot an item you like. I ended up buying a size 4 skirt on accident. That's a few years of eating nothing but lettuce (and fingernails) before I get to wear it. Now, it just takes up closet and hangar space. I almost want to volunteer and organize the clothes for them. They would probably make a few hundred dollars more a day. Other than this, I say this is a secondhand score! read more

With goodwill it seems they send different types of goods to different locations, ( as they should.) this location is best in the area for books and media ( CDs, video games, DVDs, records....) SNOB and have cheated on this place with the Goodwill Downtown Boutique since it opened but boy oh boy am I happy I randomly stopped in: 3 skirts- 1 new WITH tags (24.99 Retail price), 2 necklaces one made with all glass stones ALL for.. wait for it..... $24.95 I just CAN'T! Nothing like a GREAT bargain to make my day. I'm not one to only shop my size and I made sure to venture up and down every isle. This place has a Stellar Women's Plus Size selection! Very nice goodwill store, good housewares selection, nice staff, good masking policy. The clothes section is a bit sparse in quality but it's made up for by the massive amount of books there are, there's a whole room of the book section alone. Give it a shot if you like thrifting, but not if you need clothes (mens especially, there's almost nothing worthwhile at all in the mens section). read more

Not all Goodwills were created equal. This one is fairly good. I have gotten some great finds here. The layout is a bit odd, and sometimes the racks are so full it's hard to flip through the selections. This Goodwill doesn't seem as picked-over as others. I managed to find a great chair (that's still sitting in my bedroom, waiting for me to buy new cushions. 3 months and counting!) and a great little quilt for my daughter to sit on when we're at the park. I also found some left over fabric that I'm planning on making into pillowcases. The home goods section is quite cluttered so you definitely need two hands to sift through everything. I remember there being a TON of wicker baskets so if anyone is doing some last minute Easter shopping, you might luck out here. The people working here were pleasant and worked with me when I bought the chair and then realized that it wouldn't fit in my little honda accord. It's still fairly new so take advantage of the whole bright shiny and new feeling ... before it gets too gross and overrun with plastic crap from the dollar store. read more

I've been living within walking distance to this Goodwill for almost a year ago and I was shocked to find that I hadn't written a review for it yet. So far this is my favorite Goodwill location out of all ones I've visited in Sacramento (so far). PROS: -Good location -Large parking lot -Still has signage from Tower Records inside (R.I.P. Tower...you are dearly missed) -AWESOME selection of movies and old school PC games. (My hubby and I are both gamers and big movie people [we have over 600 in our collection], and this place is our go-to source for these). -Big book and CD sections CONS: -Housewares section is a little cramped - WAY narrow aisles! :-( -Customer service could always be better All in all, I love this Goodwill location. :-) read more

Great selection of CDs; found some gems there. Altogether well-stocked with goods of every variety, but the problems here are that the staff are the rudest I've ever encountered at a thrift store, and the prices are ridiculous. Dishes and housewares with very little life left in them more expensive than brand new at other retail stores. $4 for CDs that were so scratched up they should have been offered for free. When I was at the register the cashier was sympathetic and even suggested voluntarily that they discount the price; but when she brought out the manager, who barely spoke English, she was a snorting boor about it and said, "No." Clearly disinterested in generating any revenue for whatever causes they say they donate to. I also wanted to buy an exercise contraption that was nearly broken and without a price tag, and they (arbitrarily) put a $5 non-negotiable tag on it. Will never come back, and wouldn't be surprised if people steal from this place to balance things out, because otherwise they are getting RIPPED OFF. read more

Finally got my ass over to this new Goodwill, made out of the old Tower... well, considering it was just sitting there before, I think I approve of the change. They were pretty respectful leaving up the one tower sign, so I'm glad that we live in a town where they don't just tear stuff down to erect new shit...:) The store itself: fairly well organized, still clean, on the bigger side for a Goodwill. Managed to dig up lots of good stuff and made off with some desperately-needed new jeans, which I really like. Goodwill isn't the cheapest for thrift stores (check out Thrift Town or Ecothrift for the real good deals), but you can still find some cool stuff here... Also, the bigger space means that the back part (what used to be the classical/jazz section of the old Tower) is now all the non-clothes items, and they have A LOT. If you're looking to get stuff on the cheap, this'd be a good place to check... they also have a separate alcove near the front for books, one of the biggest I've seen in such a place... and the first thrift store I've seen with a big selection of CDs. Just like any other thrift stores around, it's going to be a hit or miss. And the prices can't be beat for their books from other places that I've seen and it's not a big selection like this one has. This one fits my needs. Sales on Mondays where everything is 50% except for Halloween Items, White Tags, and Hot Pink Tags, but I don't mind spending $100. Me and my sister went here a few nights ago and I went to check out the children movies for my niece, and found some good ones she would like. But it's very rare to find a nice XBOX 360 & PS3 game for $5, where it's going to be over that used. DVD's and Blu-Rays (which is very rare) ranges from $5-$7, which is nice because they're either hard to find or brand new movies. I even found a few books for $1.50 for paperback and $2.50 for hardback, completing my Twilight Saga Collection. My sister went into the back and ended up spending over $100 on house hold items they had for her apartment and getting stuff after her divorce as well. They also let you check those DVD's, Blu-Rays, CD's, ect; to make sure it's in the case, nothing's missing, and you can see if it's scratch or not; and if you want to put the time and money to get them repair from Fair Game or as a customer said, Dimple Records does it. Is it true? I'm not sure but it'll be worth it to check it out than driving to Fair Game in Carmicheal. Sometimes, stuff is actually missing in the cases or it's heavily scratched and beyond repair. But it's expected as well. The isles are going to be tight with items stuffed on the shelves but just like any other thrift store and garage/yard sales; you have to dig through it to find the treasure your looking for. I found a huge Snoopy doll for $3, Joe Cool, never been opened or taken out of the box even. Nothing was damaged and was very clean. Been there for three days so I decided to snag it up, as I'm a huge Peanuts Gang fan. They even have some old PC games and snagged Diablo up for $5. I try to stop once or twice a week, to see if they have any stragey guides or something else even. You may even find a brand new movie that has never been open which seems to be a rarity here. Overall, the customer service is great, staff is nice and friendly, and yes; your going to hit those workers who are either having a bad day or they're just not a happy person but they need work. I'm also making donations on all of my purchases to keep all 14 workers in check, making sure they still have jobs. I highly recommend this place, check it out. It's going to be either a love or hate relationship just like any other stores out there. You love it? Keep going there. Hate it? Find another thrift store to call your home like I have with this. read more

Every time we visit here, we never leave empty handed. Have not had as much luck finding clothes here BUT its worth the stop whenever I am in the area. I may be looking for certain items when I visit, yet I try to keep an open mind. I have found movies, music, and books here - all in gently used condition, for 1/4 of what the discount store sell. I have to stop myself from spending more than $100. Great selection of clothes. For the most part, great prices. I thought they were totally great until I walked over to a rack of mens bathing suites that were all $13 and up ... They're that price brand new at Walmart .. I was slightly miffed, but it's summer. Goodwill is still a business. They've gotta make their money somehow. Thankfully, I found some mens bathing suits for $4 in the mens shorts section. Instantly redeemed.
