On Monday, 15 December I visited the Goodwill store in Round Lake Beach, Illinois (Store #088). My visit was pleasant and uneventful...until I went to pay for my items. Employee #180709 performed in what I can only describe as an appallingly rude, discourteous, and unprofessional manner. Employee #180709 did not greet me, did not respond to my greeting, did not speak to me; he simply stood there glaring at me and then handed me the receipt without a word. Employee #180709 presented an attitude of disgust and disdain for my custom, and behaved as though my presence there was offensive. I don't know what I did to warrant this behaviour; I stood in the line quietly, waiting for my turn (there was only one cashier available at 11am), and then greeting him in a friendly manner. Employee #180709 appeared to 'glare' at me as though my presence was an offence to him. Employee #180709 behaved in what I perceived as a bigoted, racially-biased manner, which made my visit there thoroughly unpleasant and made me feel unwelcome. I am very disappointed, disgusted, and displeased by the behaviour of Employee #180709 and do not recommend him or this store to anyone. read more

Two stars because some of the staff is really nice and they have a huge selection of stuff. However they have some employees I have dealt with that are extremely rude and not helpful at all. Today I had a horrible experience. I went to the store, and when it was my turn to pay, I asked to pay part in cash and the rest with my card. The cashier didn't understand me and processed the payment incorrectly. I repeated my request, and he got very annoyed. I explained what I had asked for, and he started making fun of me and raising his voice. I asked to speak to a manager, and when the manager came over, she only asked how she could help me. I explained what had happened, and she also responded very rudely, asking what I wanted her to do. I just wanted to pay because what I bought was for my children, who were with me. The manager ignored me. I also told her that they need to train their staff properly, and she just kept asking what I wanted her to do. I told her that at least an apology would be nice, and the cashier, still mocking me, apologized, while the manager never said or did anything. read more

What happened to you Goodwill in Round Lake? After the incident with the bug in my picture the last time we were here. It looks to be a cockroach, we decided to just try this place again because we were passing by. The place is just overwhelmingly packed with stuff. As I started looking at items I realized why the store was so full. The prices are outrageous! And this isn't just on upper end items, this is on everything. The parking lot was full but I watched people walk out with nothing. Goodwill, get a clue. You get this crap for free. Mark it so you can move it. I know you have expenses, but why are your prices double and triple of other Goodwill stores in the area? Avoid this store and go to a place like McHenry, Crystal Lake, even Kenosha. You never know what they are going to have but believe me, it'll be a lot cheaper This visit just reminded me of why we haven't been here in so long, but it also reminds me to not stop in again even if we're just passing by. Lii oh e driving over to this donation center as they have a pull up for drop off line with covered awning. The staffers are always super friendly and helpful with unloading your items. The location is easy to get to and get out of. Although it's a bit of a drive from the interstate, so something to consider if coming in from out of the area. read more

I used to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this store. I found a lot of treasures, clothing, furniture, and household goods at reasonable prices - all clean and well organized. I also donated a lot of items. When family and friends visited, they loved going thrifting here with me. I can not recommend Goodwill anymore, though. No more furniture, no returns if something didn't work out after bringing it home, disorganized merchandise, and terrible pricing for used goods. I can find better deals for new items on sale at regular stores or at discount shops. They no longer even put things into bags for you unless you supply your own. Very inconvenient. Please wake up, Goodwill! You will better support your community and your mission if you sell more at lower prices, and go back to previous customer-centric best practices. read more

EVERYTHING HERE IS OVERPRICED. If you're looking for a thrift store, this is not the place. This is a FOR PROFIT business, dressing up as a corporation that does "good," and has a "mission." The racks are at capacity, because no one wants to buy at these prices. People are donating free to you, to support this mission, so just price most things at a base price and move on. It would be a great time for an actual non profit who does well for the community to step in and take Goodwill's donations and customers away. Had bad experience with staff. They accused someone of changing prices with no real evidence. They need a change of management at this location. They escalated the situation and banned the person at the store without a civil response and should have talked it out at least. They said they "saw the person changing prices" and didn't give them any chance to defend or explain themselves. There should be a better protocol than how they handled the situation. Goodwill seriously needs to do a round table with their customers (thrifters, treasure hunters, those in need and resellers. There is plenty to go around for everyone.) The pricing has gotten ridiculous. If the 'pricers' are using Ebay as a guide, they need to be looking at what the items are actually selling for, not what they are listed for. As a 20-year Ebay seller, the price it is listed for has nothing to do with what it actually sells for. Stop curating as if you are some kind of boutique. You are a thrift store, not a boutique. I used to shop weekly at this Goodwill for years! I absolutely loved it, finding a lot of great things in good condition and fair prices. I moved away for 2 years and have recently returned for a short time. I am so disappointed in the changes they have made at the store, The prices have more than tripled since I lived here.They are outrageous! I have seen things priced more than at a retail store. You used to be able to exchange within 10 days if something didn't fit, work or if you changed your mind. Now, All sales are final, they wont take anything back, no exceptions. Many times in the past, I purchased something and the pieces weren't all there or it didn't work you could exchange it for something else. Doesn't matter, they won't take it back. The store looks more like the salvation army store than a goodwill. Stop taking advantage of your customers, by reading the reviews, everyone is noticing the outrageous prices. Usually a very good selection and decently priced items. However, within the last month or two I've noticed that anything that has a name brand logo on it has gone up in price. As in three to five times the amount I've paid earlier this year. One brand that kind of annoys me is Starbucks. I saw a Starbucks mug for $5 in the .50 cent mug section. Also, who would pay $5 for a Starbucks reusable plastic cup? The actual Starbucks across the street store sells it for $1.99 I am not sure if they switched owners or are trying to get away with new pricing, but it's a huge turn off to people like me who have gone here for three years read more

I am a regular Goodwill shopper and have traveled all over the northern and southern states By far ill has some of the best stores and the salespeople and management are mostly great.Prices are good and bad but not any worse than any other other resale stores and generally good quality items.Round Lake is very good and the people are great overall.Goodwills mission is to help people with disabilities and this includes training people who may not have good people skills.Try as we can we are not always sunshine and flowers.Best I can say is the employees work hard for low wages and I give them credit. read more

Was very displeased with the quality of goods at the Round Lake, IL location. Terrible selection, strange odor in the store...the clothes were dirty like they did not check them before putting them out. But, the store itself was filthy, too. So, I was not surprised. I wound up walking out and not even trying to find what I needed. I'm pretty sure there were dead bugs all over the floor near the children's clothes, but I did not look closely to investigate because I was so disgusted. That's when I just left. Gross store. Visited twice and came out with some decent haul both times. The Skagen watch for $19.99 that currently sells online for $75.00+ was the highlight of the last trip. Not a scratch on it, accurately set, and a live battery that's still going 2 months later. Every time I visit this goodwill most of the staff are very rude. I went there recently and an employee (mark) told me I could not have my children in an isle because it had glass in it. They were in the middle of the isle and not touching anything standing next to my cart. I ignored him because there weren't touching anything except my cart and wouldn't break anything. He walked up to me pushed my cart aside into my 4 year old, and got his face within 2 i​nches away from mine and said I thought I told you it was a bad idea to have children in this isle. I told him he needed to get me a manager now and take a step back. He said no, and started to tell me to get the children out of the isle. I asked him much louder to get me a manager. I told him I'm not doing anything, he needed to get a manager. The manager came out, and I told her what happened. She said she would speak to him, and then walked away back into the back room without saying anything to him. I left after the employee still was continuing to try and talk to me. read more

Great place! I am a thrifty shopper and love going to thrift stores. Every time I have been here it is very clean and neat. There are many employees working to help make the store look great. There is always a lot of customers and the store has a large parking space. I often see brand new stuff that is donated to them from Target. I am guessing this is stuff they were unable to sell seeings how they have the Target clearance stickers still on them. The only thing I did not like about the store is that they do not do the weekly sales for the color of the purchase tag like other Goodwills do. They do have a rewards card though. And they also will send you a coupon on your birthday month. Check this place out. It is a great store!! And it helps out our local community!! :) read more

I went in on Wednesday and my daughter and I found some items, went up to pay but the system had crashed so they offered to hold the items in a bag so I could come back ( along with everyone else) and buy our items another day. I couldn't make it back Thursday but called to confirm that I would pick up items 1st thing Friday morning. The manager stated due to policy everything was going back on the floor. I pleaded and even offered to pay over the phone - no heart. nothing. I'm sure that 'policy' was not written for circumstances where my purchase was inhibited by the Goodwill. All Goodwill stores are not created equal. I have visited many Goodwills in the area, Kenosha to Lake Zurich. The reviewers stating the inventory here is lacking don't know how good they've got it! This is one of the best organized Goodwills I have been in and the amount and quality of inventory is excellent in comparison of other locations. If u don't like a price, don't buy it, there are plenty of other bargains. prices here on all items are clearly marked for the most part. After donating thousands of dollars over the last few years of quality, working items, and doing some light shopping, we're done with this store. The clerk forgot to put an item in our bag, and when we returned for the item or a refund, LaShanda, the manager, was called over. She just took the receipt and disappeared with not a word said. And we waited, and waited, and waited, for at least 20 minutes. Not even the cashier knew what was going on. Finally, LaShanda returns and claims she reviewed the security tape and apparently we were liars and thieves. All this over $4.99. What a rude, unpleasant, insulting person. If this is who Goodwill chooses to represent them, then we're done with this store. I can just sell my stuff from now on instead of donating and shop literally anywhere else and not have to be treated like a criminal. read more

Was just going to leave a positive compliment when I saw the one from Ola M. I have been coming to this store for a long time, buying clothes for my family and enjoying chatting with managers, who have been nothing but kind. But guess what Ola, I was checking out at the time you and your husband were physically pushing one of the poor managers on duty and yelling at her. I guess that's why the police were there right after you both left. No wonder you don't like this store. They won't do your phony returns! But at least you will be able to talk to the police about what rude managers work there. (If you haven't already!) Not all Goodwills are created equal. We moved from the area nearly two years ago and I truly miss this Goodwill!! I have been back to visit the area recently and had to visit one of my favorite thrifts. The two Goodwills in my current locale are complete dumps compared to this one, I don't know why they even bother. The reviewers stating the inventory here is lacking don't know how good they've got it! I envy this location and I'm sad I no longer can make a stop when the mood hits. Seriously this is one of the best organized Goodwills I have been in and the amount and quality of inventory is excellent in comparison of my current location. Really there is no comparison. Maybe the people in this area are just more generous in their donating which is a loss for me having moved from there. Sure the prices were sometimes high on certain things, but I have found that to be true of any thrift where they try to sell at eBay prices on select things. Just as with anywhere I shop if I don't like a price I just don't buy it, there are plenty of other bargains to be found. But I can say that I never wondered about a price here as all items are clearly marked. This is not so at my current locale where they have some crazy multicolored hang tag pricing system on clothing and cheap yard sale price stickers on household and non-clothing items. And if ever I needed or wanted something specific or random, 9 times out of 10 I was able to find it here. I have found some true deals here, and I'm not one of those people that buys stuff to resell, I actually only buy what I am personally going to use for myself, kids, or my home. Truly a gem as far as Goodwills go, too bad some just don't know what they've got til it's gone. Been coming here for quite some years and will definitely stop buying clothes there.They have a 10 day return policy, but if tags are mishandled they won't accept them. So as a warning for the future, make sure your tags are in more than perfect conditions before you pay for them. Out of all the Goodwills that I have visited in a 25-mile radius of Libertyville, this is the best. It's well organized, efficient and open. There's a great selection of ever-changing furniture and home goods appearing every minute. If you don't see something you're looking for, either wait around or come back in a day or two--the incredibly helpful and active staff keep each area well-stocked and tidy. The prices are a little higher than I would expect for a thrift store but, because it's going towards a good cause, I can look past that. I've found a couple of great steals at this location and I will be a frequent visitor. Check this place out during the weekend if you're in the mood for thrifting. One of the best trift shops around! I go to this store almost weekly. They have a great selection of toys, clothes, housewares, you name it. Prices are very reasonible and consistant. Went in on a Saturday, in search of chairs, and Nintendo DS games. Store was very, very crowded! I wasn't expecting that for Round Lake Beach. Selection was great, very wide selection of items, well organized. Goodwill is always a hit or miss when it comes to pricing, so this location is no different. I was able to find 4 World Market wooden folding chairs for $4.99 in great shape, other than needing a little cleaning. I was also able to find a beautiful large glass decanter for $4.99. There was ample staffing for the crowds, and the line was no more than 2 people. I will visit again, but maybe not on the weekend. Parking was not sufficient for the crowd. read more
