I got the Summer Salad and every single berry was perfectly ripe. They have two full pages of different salads--the variety is massive. I had it for lunch AND dinner and still have leftovers! ​I also tried the Macadamia Nut Marshmallow Coffee and it was so unique--nutty, sweet, and came with two vegan marshmallows that were actually yummy and fluffy. Goodwin's is a solid lunch spot with an expansive menu and quick & friendly staff. Don't sleep on the breakfast, either - and it seems they recently expanded that part of the menu, which is awesome! They offer online ordering which is key as they can get quite the line during prime lunch hours. The interior is super nice and recently got a refresh, and they have a huge patio to sit outside on nice weather days. Only downside is their seating is under the El so it can be noisy for conversation. I've been going here for years and can't believe I haven't reviewed before! My favorite lunch spot when I'm at work!! Without fail I always get the chicken tortilla soup and the kale salad. I devoured the chicken tortilla soup. It's the only reason the photo is not here. I have had many tortilla soup's and let me tell you this one has phenomenal flavor extremely authentic, nice and thick consistency and the chips and chicken breast that they put in It is delicious. My next rave review needs to be about this kale salad. The photo doesn't look that great because I was about to dig in and I had already chopped up all the avocado, but let me tell you the combination of ingredients that they use for this, the kale, the purple cabbage, the purple onion, the pumpkin seeds, green peppers, clementines, avocado slices, and they're yummy champagne vinaigrette dressing makes this one of my favorite salads of all time!!! I've had a ton of the sandwiches and wraps and they've basically all been great. My favorite and my go-to is the San Carlos with no sour cream. It's a mole chicken wrap. I mean where else can you get a mole sandwich for lunch?! Love it. It's not overly filling and it's got a ton of unique flavor to it. Was my first time ordering from this restaurant. Just wanted a salad . Ordered through grub hub, ordered the la Paz salad and received a salad with no dressing , lettuce , tomatoes and just meat and avocado. The salad was supposed to be to have cilantro lime dressing , pico de gallo, and spicy black beans, and didn't come with any of that ! Goodwin's has their lunch routine down to a science. They offer anything from wraps, to sandwiches, to soup, or salad. In addition, they have multiple options within those categories which cater to those who are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, or meat lovers. If you're stopping in around the 12 o'clock hour, expect a 10-15 minute wait. Not because the service is slow, just because Goodwin's is that popular (and convenient for those who work nearby). The line to order and pay looks intimidating, but they keep things flowing like a well oiled machine. They purposely keep the line backed away from the food counter so they can call people up individually when it's your turn to order. At first I thought this was slightly asinine, but once it was my turn to order I was more than pleased to be able to hear the employee behind the counter and make my selection without feeling rushed or cramped in a line. After you order they hand you a number and you then can make your way to the cashier. I'd say there was about a minute tops between me paying and receiving my food. Not bad at all. I'm trying to make better (healthier) choices these days, so I opted for a salad. Granted, I ordered the BBQ chopped chicken salad, which I ended up smothering in BBQ ranch, but that's neither here nor there. It was delicious and a refreshing lunch option for a hot day! The salad came with bbq chicken breast (of course), grilled corn, black beans, tomato, monterey jack cheese, jicama (which I didn't learn until later is a fabulous Mexican fruit), and cilantro with bbq ranch dressing on the side. Muy bueno! Very fresh ingredients and a satisfying combo to say the least. At $9.95 for a salad, I was actually satisfied with the portion size. Too big for me to finish! Besides the stellar food, Goodwin's also has their outdoor patio which is a solid selling point in my opinion. They have a shaded area on one side of the building and a sunnier spot around the corner for the sun goddesses out there. The seating inside is few and far between, but it seems like most people order their food to go or opt to sit outside anyway. Definitely a lunch spot I'll keep in mind when I'm working in the city! Definitely an upgrade from the old location on Franklin between Randolph & Lake. That place was small, dark and congested. The line was always out of the door especially on a nice warm day. This new location is bigger, brighter and has enough standing space if there is a huge lunch rush. They still specialized in hot & cold sandwiches and wraps that include fresh ingredients. I normally go for the hot wraps like the San Marcos, Santa Monica & San Carlos...If I go for a cold wrap, its usually the Key West. Most of their sandwiches/wraps are pretty good. I recently found out they make breakfast sandwiches/wraps. I came by a few mornings ago and grabbed a Rincon Beach which is scrambled egg whites, caramelized onions, arugula, monterey jack cheese, avocado, and grilled tomato wrapped up in a spinach tortilla. Was pretty good but mildly on the soggy side as I walked a few blocks to work. I probably should have eaten it there fresh. read more

I was thinking the whole time how Chipotle would be tastier and a much better value. I got the hot baja shrimp sandwich. First of all, the portion looks tiny compared to a wrap. I have been a fan of Goodwin's for a while. They have a HUGE selection of sandwiches and salads--every combination under the sun. The portion sizes are fine, although I think things are a bit on the pricey side. The food is fresh. The service is fast. My go-to salad is the Sonoma Salad. They make a really good pico de gallo and the chunks of chicken are delicious. The salad dressing is great and not too oily. The Pentwater Club is a great sandwich as well. You can either get a side of pasta salad, fruit or chips with salsa and guac. Definitely go for the chips with salsa and guac. Their guacamole is really really good. The set up of the restaurant on Wacker is a little weird. It is a long, narrow restaurant. You stand in line and block the few booths that are inside. Once you place your order and pay, you have to go back through the line of people to get your fountain drink and then go back to the area where you pay to pick up your food. When it is crowded at lunch, it gets a little hectic and you don't always hear your number called when your food is ready. First of all -- love their wraps. The Tampico is delicious. Ordered lunch for the office today using their online service and had it delivered. Fifteen lunches and they got it here in about an hour which is pretty good. Unfortunately, as happens now and then when you order for a big group, a couple of things got left out. Hey it happens no matter where we order from. Well the difference was the response when I called them to explain. About an hour after I called, the delivery guy calls my cell and says he has something for me -- a tray of goodies for the office and a very nice card. Never had that happen before! Wow..not what I expected. My cubicle buddy to the left rolled in with a sando and chips from here the other day and under questioning let loose about Goodwin's...which I never heard of. And I worked in the loop since the 1900s so this is like..a shock. Needless to say, the very next day I ventured out to this exotic locale see what's what. I was expecting an out of the way joint, maybe family owned, and smalll and grandmas recipes etc. But, no. Goodwin's is anything but small. It's a huge-ish sando emporium any vegas casino would be proud of. I'd say they have 40 employees furiously making sandwiches. 20 tables inside. 20 out. I got there at 11:45AM on a Tuesday which I hoped would beat the rush by 15 minutes. No. The line was way long. Like 20 minutes long. And after you finally order, you have to go to the pay stand. And then the pick up stand. They have like 5000 different sandwiches to choose from. Mostly with west coast or hipster style names. There's a larkspur sando and a laguna and maui and baja and I don't know why there's no San Dimas in honor of bill and ted. Like that. I got the San Clemente. Only because it's "the goodwins favorite", per the menu. It's really hard to decide. I also opted for the chips and guac because that came recommended per my left side cubicle buddy. The sandwich was okay. Turkey on a pretzel roll. I thought it was a little small. The guac portion was very generous but the chips were way way to flimsy. Breaking off all the time and obviously from some huge bag. I'm glad I tried this place. They have some nice touches..like having free apples near the cash register. But next time if I want a cool sando for lunch I'll go to publican. They are way better and the same price. read more

Some friends and I met up at Goodwin's on our lunch break just now. I've been there once before, but never got around to reviewing it. But this time, my visit was more eventful, so I figured I should review it. Their salads are a nice size - definitely entrée-sized. I ordered the LaPaz salad and loved it. The last time I was there I ordered the BBQ chicken salad and remember it being delicious as well. They have a pretty large selection of salads and wraps. You might want to check out the menu online before going. That's what I did, and knew exactly what to order when I got there. Or, I believe you could actually order online. You basically order, they give you a number, and you go to the register to pay. We were just standing around, waiting for all of our friends to get done paying, when a woman brought out all of our salads already! Lightning fast! We didn't even get a chance to find a table. It was a beautiful day in Chicago today, so we picked a table outside. It wasn't too hot, and the sun wasn't blinding us since it's under a part of the building, so no need for umbrella tables that don't actually guard you from the sun! When we sat down, I noticed that the seating area is right next to the el trains - and they pass by pretty frequently. I thought this would be interesting...and intrusive to our conversation. But, now that I think back, I don't even remember if any trains passed by during our lunch. That could be because we were so loud and talked over any noise! At the end of lunch, we were going to ask a guy at the next table to take a picture of us, but before we had a chance, he came over to us and asked if he could take a picture of us - apparently he either manages, owns, or works at Goodwin's and wanted to put it on their Instagram. He promised us each a free cookie! SCORE! He was super nice and was wearing a Goodwin's t-shirt, so we figured he wasn't a creeper. ;) We will definitely be back for lunch again, since it's the perfect location, great food, and friendly service. read more

Also, on a separate occasion, I ordered their veggie soup and it had chicken in it. I took it back, explained the situation, and I got... the same exact soup. I was really excited to try this place since I've heard amazing things. $11.08 wasted on a wrap with one piece of turkey, a glob of guacamole and some lettuce. Since I didn't grab lunch until 2:15 I was hungry and started eating the wrap. OMG! Half way through, the wrap became so spicy I couldn't eat anymore. My mouth is still on fire 10-15 minutes later. This is my favorite lunch place. The menu is huge, so you don't feel like you're always eating the same thing. The ingredients are always fresh, and the food is great. Overall the price is about on par with downtown prices, but your sandwich or wrap also comes with a side which is nice. Seating can be a bit of a challenge and the security guards patrol outside to make sure that those who didn't buy from Goodwin's don't eat in that area, but if it's full you can't go sit on the other side because that is reserved for building tenants. So seating can be a challenge but is usually ok. read more

I always order La Paz salad from this restaurant with company's order via seamless web. I discovered a screw in my salad towards the very end of the portions. I cannot each entire salad in one sitting because I work in call center so I nibble it for a few hours. I sent an email to Goodwin in the "contact us" email and no one replied. Below is the email sent on April 10 at 3:37PM. I love to keep returning but due to this experience and no response from manager about this terrifying experience, I guess- no more. A piece of hair is expected in food but "screw?" Hmm..How did it get in there? "Managers, I just want to take the time to inform you of a serious negligent in my food. I always order from your restaurant via seamless corporate website through my employer. Today, I ordered your LaPaz Salad and received very generous portions and always have. I will continue to order but this is serious discovery that can't be ignored. Food Confirmation #1818127218. Look at what I found in the food- a screwdriver. I am slowly eating and then, bam, a screw driver. ( I meant a SCREW) First, I laugh. Then, I got concerned. What if I didn't look at every bite that I eat and had swallowed this? I could have choked and it could have damage my internal organs. How did a screw driver end up in the salad box? This is food hazard and major negligence. There are various problems: 1) I got a wrap, and it was so soggy that it leaked all over my tray. Because they are so busy, I try and hold off going until 1ish or just place an order for pickup.
