Avoid this place like the plague! I brought my car to get my tire patched, but the guy brought it back out stating he couldn't patch. I drove down two hours to Monterey and it held air fine - dropped maybe a few PSI, but otherwise drivable. When I came back out the tire was hissing like crazy, and then went flat. The guy basically left me hanging and did nothing to help me. Totally stranded. I practically begged the owner and they simply ignore me. I had the best experience here. Got a nail in my tire down in Big Sur and while my boyfriend was able to temporarily patch it up with a tire repair kit, it still needed proper fixing. The folks at Goodyear PG couldn't have been nicer. I made an appointment for 7:30 AM and was out before 8 AM. It cost about $50 and everything was seamless, no frills, and they didn't try to upsell me on anything (a rarity). I'll be needing new tires in the next few months and will definitely be going through them as opposed to the dealership. I was quoted a price that Included 4 new TPMS sensors without even checking to see if any of the sensors on my current tires still were working fine or if even asked me this question. Shopper Beware! About a year ago I bought 4 new tires from Goodyear in Pacific Grove. A couple of weeks ago, I found a screw in one of my tires. I drove my vehicle over to Goodyear thinking they would probably repair the tire for free since I bought them there. Nope! But it gets worse, upon inspection I was told that I needed a whole new tire because the screw was too close to the sidewall. It didn't look very close to me so I decided to take it over to Peninsula Tire in Monterey for a second opinion. Peninsula Tire repaired immediately without ever mentioning anything about the sidewall and I was in and out of there in 15 minutes. Goodyear tried to force me to buy a $170 tire (which they did not have in stock and therefore would take 2 weeks to arrive) whereas Peninsula Tire repaired everything for $25. I called Goodyear to tell them my experience and the man who answered told me it was the owner himself who inspected my tire and said it needed replaced. I explained that no one else thought so and that the owner might want to contact me about this. He never did. Bottom line: Stay away from this place and if you want new tires go to Peninsula Tire in Monterey. read more

Our Car was taken In about 5 min after arriving which was awesome and we were out the door in under 30 min. The nail was removed and the tire was plugged and we only paid $35. Fast great service. I love this place. Regular dudes who will help you if they can, and if they're too busy....you can tell. No fuss. And, they're attentive. The service manager is a good dude. Friendly. The other front desk guy, Derek I think is his name, is quiet but helpful. He changed a fog light for me a few months ago. Didn't have too. Pablo came out of the garage and said I'll have you outta here in 40 minutes. I never feel like I'm getting rooked either. You might pay a little more for tires...as compared to Costco, but they'll rotate them for you and you don't have to wait all day. (If they can that is, they'll rotate them. Sometimes they're real busy.) Exactly how a business should be run. I won't buy tires anywhere else. And routine maintenance? Just the kind of service anyone should expect/demand. They diagnosed that the starting problem was caused by a bad battery and a bad starter. I agreed to have the battery replaced and also replace the starter. They installed a rebuilt starter. It ran okay for a month and then it stopped running. The tow truck driver suspected it was a bad battery. They replaced the battery again and about a week later it wouldn't start. Then I was quoted that it would be $150. to replace the starter after it had already been replaced once before. I decided to search starter prices online. Finally ordered the part and had it installed for $60. The starter I ordered online USA is new one and not a rebuilt one. Auto now has been working fine. Beware of this place. read more

Went in for a tire inspection today, I called in before explaining my issue. I got there and waited In line. The employee, who I assume is the manager, called two customers in line behind me to help them first as I looked dumbfounded on what just happened. This is not the worst part. Finally, a mechanic walked in and asked if I needed help considering I've been waiting at the front desk for about 15 minutes not being helped. I told the mechanic if he could take a look at my tire. We got to the car and immediately he said I needed a new tire. I told him sir, that is not the tire I am having issues with. I then correctly pointed out the tire that needed inspection. He said " I cannot do anything about the tire going flat, you need a new tire". That was not the issue, it's a brand new tire, the valve stem is messed up. He grabbed the air pump, pumped up my tire and I swear to god he said "that's all I can do for you" and walked away without a word said. I thought I was being pranked and sure enough I strolled in that worthless place and told them "is this really your service?" Stay far away from this place. read more

After my sweet darling Brad cleaned the connections and put it on a charger for a couple of hours Zap we were ready and charged. First things First I took the car over to: Goodyear Don Fretwell 1224 Forest Ave Pacific Grove, CA located just around the corner from my house. Looks like they have freshened up the place with a New Paint job and repavement in the parking lot. really nice ! Walked in meet with Don Fretwell Really nice guy just have to find his fuzzy spot reminded me a little of Big Sur Walt Trotter Big Paws, Gruff Voice and a heart of Gold. He checked my Battery and alternator said I may have left a door opened or cracked, I said well my battery is 6 years old maybe I should by a new one anyway. His reply was Great, You don't need one and I will not sell you one till you need one, your battery is STRONG I will see you again sometime when you need a new battery. I asked what about the charge for you checking everything out ? Alternator, battery,starter crank, He said there is no charge. I took his card and I will be back ! Good things first: They put tires that didn't match on the car, and when we pointed it out to them, they changed it immediately. So in terms of getting the job done, they did it. Bad things: Within the first minute we walked in the door, we had to witness two employees arguing and calling each other jerks and liars. This kind of behavior continued throughout the time we were sitting waiting for our tires to be changed. So, yes, they get the job done, but we wouldn't go there again because it is really uncomfortable to sit and listen to employees argue and call each other rude things. Basically I have this habit of taking my car to a different place every time I need an oil change. I've never found anywhere that's super fabulous or had to-die-for-prices. So whenever I'm due for an oil change I go for something that's at-that-moment convenient or advertising a low price. I'd noticed a sign in front of this place that oil changes were $29.99 so I decided to give them a go. I know that's cheaper than Jiffy Lube or whatever. I stopped in on a Sunday and they said they could get my out of there in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later my oil was supposedly changes and I was good to go. I wasn't overly impressed with the feel of the place, and they didn't do anything extra like vacuum my car, but then again, my engine has yet to explode so I suppose they must have done an okay job. I'd go back again if I don't find a new exciting place to try next time. read more

I really miss these guys. It seemed I had some little thing wrong with my well-used '94 Volvo (ol' Bessy) all the time. Once the headlight wouldn't work because the wiring was messed up. Two guys came out to work for 15 minutes, fixed it, and refused to charge me--even for the new bulb! They did little things like that for me all the time, were very polite, and trustworthy about trying to save me money by advising me not to get unimportant things done. The best thing was when one of them drove out to my place of work to fix my car when it wouldn't start. They have a $20 drive out fee (as I recall), but because they knew me, he waived it. I was given a ride to work when they were working on my car, too, no charge, no problem. Hope all is well with avuncular, hard-working, Don. Love his dry sense of humor, too. Maybe the reviews where they said they saw arguing and rudeness were just off days, or those employees were fired or straightened out. Goodyear Tire Store is like the little mom and pop diner that only the locals know about, but once tried you keep coming back. I have gone to them since 2000 when they told me I was riding on bald tires--who would know? it was a company car. I didn't check the tires Now, with my own car, I keep coming back. Recently, another tire store misdiagnosed my leaking tire. Not these guys. Don diagnosed it. He told me to re-check the tires if the pressure light came back on, and when the light came back, so did I. The tire was all fixed today, for $35. I can't give these guys enough kudos. First experience awesome. I came in wanting to replace all four of my tires. Guy who helped me said it wasn't necessary to replace all four. He then sent me over to the Seaside store where he helped me get an EXCELLENT deal on two tires. I was done and out in a little over an hour. Second experience also awesome. Went in to get my brakes done. We were done really quickly and they did an excellent job at a great price. I have been collecting quotes for my 6o,000 mile service. So far they are coming in at $389.00 - $150.00 cheaper than anywhere else. Don't let the guy who seems really gruff fool you. I tried to go to the Goodyear in Pacific Grove store two times since I live closer to there, and had a terrible experience. The first time I called to see when they closed, and when I got there, they told me they could not help me because it was too late, why they did not tell me that on the phone a few minutes earlier??? I dont think I would be so annoyed, if the guy was not rude about not being able to help me. The second time they should have been open but where not.
