I do love this place and have for years, but I'm getting sick of places that auto tip 20%. Most of them don't tell you, which happened last night, so I'm now tipping someone 40%. Went in to see the place for an event this fall. Employees couldn't have been nicer. Venue is a bar/restaurant on 1 side divided by a stage for a live band on the other. Large beer selection both on tap and in bottles. Menu is pretty large , wasn't sure on A Tuesday afternoon how this would go. Ordered wings and Jalapeno poppers. Both were awesome with a bit of a kick. Loved that they came out temperature hot. Ordered both brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. Maybe a bit dry but their sauces took care of that. My boyfriend and I were visiting Denver and did not plan ahead for breakfast on Sunday. @11 am Everywhere we tried to eat had a hour plus wait... we strolled into this place assuming to have a liquid brunch, sat ourselves in a booth and sure enough saw some awesome options on the menu. The Lee sandwich is to die for ecspecially bc it comes with juice for dipping and the baguette was the perfect bread for this sandwich. The side salad instead of fries was so tasty and unique. Stopped in on Wednesday night before a show at the Bluebird for some drinks and snacks. We had great service when we arrived and had drinks and food in no time. I had the Osaka sandwich with homemade chips and could only eat half. It was huge! The bartender was friendly and helpful. Once more folks came in, the service started to suffer. It wasn't packed, but the staff seemed to have a hard time keeping up. I'm not sure if they were short staffed. I know with the great resignation, it has been an issue at many places. Came in after finding out they had a soul dance/video night. Free entry and plenty of spaces, seats, and drinks to choose from. I like the patio as well as there are plenty of spaces to go outside, get some fresh air, and chat with others. We had a really good time dancing out butts off here and the drinks were strong and mighty. The DJ was super nice and made sure to come up to us and say hi and thanked us for coming. Gotten takeout from here twice during COVID, and it hit the spot! We've tried several of the meats, and the pulled pork and chicken are my favs (runner-up burnt ends). I'm not usually a fan of potato salad at all, but theirs is delicious! I think it's the dill. I also love a BBQ joint I can call up at dinnertime and they haven't run out of much. Worst service and worst food. Unless you're apart of the 'neighborhood friend group' they will not serve you unless you beg them to give you a drink. I have never gotten so many dirty looks from a group of bartenders in my life. I have gone in there numerous times though out the two years and have recently stopped going because the service never seems to get better. Bartenders act like getting a drink is a hassle, they continue to have conversations with friends or staff when you ask them for something. A bartender even rolled her eyes at me once. Mind you, all I am doing as a customer is coming in sitting at the bar and patiently waiting to be served. And don't get me started on the nasty dried out road kill they call BBQ. It's not good quality meat, it's always either burnt or dried out. Shocked the health department hasn't shut them down. They're sides are just as bad, the cornbread is so dry that it's like dust, the beans are always cold and might as well come from a can. I haven't bothered to try anything else since the quality has been SO bad. read more

Came here to meet up with some friends. Found them easily sitting outside and didn't have to pay a cover. Bought the door guy a shot of Jager which was on special and ordered a vodka cranberry and a Red Stripe before joining our friends outside. The patio was strange and narrow, and there were a lot of people sitting outside because it was the most lovely night of the year. Once the bands started we could hear them really well, so we didn't go inside to watch. We stayed through one set and then left though the patio exit. Uh. This place sucked. There was no parking, good thing for me as I walked there. I was meeting family and friends who had to take a ride sharing service seeing how they didn't want to drive home after having a few "cocktails". The "bartender" kept inquiring if we were doing okay. It's almost as if he was interested that we were in the building, imagine the chutzpah on this guy! And to add insult to injury when we settled the bill, this guy actually said, and I quote, "Thanks for coming in. We'll see you next time." The gentleman that runs the open mic on Tuesday nights is extremely unprofessional and is drunk the whole time. I can not afford instruments so I sang to a backing track that was my own original music and he got on stage after my set and said that this is a live music open mic, not a karaoke night and that I shouldn't perform there. That is so disrespectful and bias. I will make sure to spread the word about this open mic. It takes a lot of courage to get onstage and I didn't see him sing one note or play any instruments. I've been here a few times. They have great music and a vibrant yet chill atmosphere. I had the pork wings, and they were super tasty. They were perfectly cooked with a nice crust. The honey Sriracha sauce had a delightful heat that melded well with the ranch dressing dip. The cole slaw was fresh but pretty standard. I enjoyed hanging out to grab a snack and a beer. The bathrooms were warm.....a huge plus!!!! The place is on Colfax....but hey, Colfax is hip now. Saying that, no worries, there was no hipster vibe there. Just people being people. I saw a few people walk in for a drink after work, A few bromance dates, a couple people just playing pool. I loved that out of the three TV's ...there was actually one NOT playing football. I'm sorry Denver there are a few of us who ...dare I say it.....who don't care about football. They had Dry dock on tap...the apricot one...my favorite! Alternative little dive off Colfax. Mostly for meat lovers but to my delight they had BBQ tofu. I ordered their kale and avocado salad with the tofu and it was very fresh and a great portion size. My husband ordered the burnt ends with collard greens. He enjoyed it. We ordered our daughter the basic burger on gluten free bread. They missed the spot here. Toast was torched on the inside and the burger was chard a bit on the outside. Go for it I had a very unique martini made with kettle one grapefruit and rose and it was absolutely delicious and only 6.00 bucks! Our server was very attentive and friendly. Overall cool little spot if you like barbecue and are downtown. read more

After patronizing Goosetown for its first 3 years in business before moving east for a couple of decades, I was excited to go back last night to see Freedy Johnston and have a meal and beverages. Terrific food and massive Colorado draft beer selection. The collaboration with OPEN to offer 5-6 sandwiches from Denver's best chefs is genius: Tommy Lee's sandwich from RiNo's Hop Alley was superb: loaded with brisket, sesame mayo, arugula, caramelized onions, all on a Marcyzk baguette, with a generous bowl of Sichuan dipping broth possessing just enough zing to complement the sandwich flavors, with salad or chips for a very fair $15. The bartender was kind enough to bring it to me so I didn't lose my front-of-stage table. I know it gets crowded when there are some Bluebird shows across the street but I'm making Goosetown a regular stop now that I'm back - great food, lots of Denver/Golden history, and friendly helpful staff! read more

The food was a bit of a let down for me, it lacked flavour and didn't do anything for me at all. I think Goosetown really deserves a 3.5, but since it definitely isn't at a 4 level (yet - I need to try the food to really decide), I had to knock it to a three. The vibe of the bar is refreshing in Denver - not too chic, not too shabby. A bar's bar. In the front room you can sit at the bar or at a table or booth and order food. The waitstaff is nice, but not overly friendly. In the back room there are a few billiards tables so you can shoot the shit while shooting pool. They also have a patio you can enjoy the summer weather on. As far as drinks go, I ordered my standard whiskey and coke. The bartenders were very precise - measuring out my shot before mixing, so I wouldn't say you're going to get "generous" drinks here. You get what you pay for, though, and my drinks were only $4 a pop (non-happy hour). I'd go back again. The people who frequent the bar are fun and on the younger side - a nice break from the slightly older crowd I've found at several other Colfax bars. read more

I don't know which was worse, the place or the date. Wait... yes, I do... it was the place. At least my date was clean. The parking situation is awful, street parking in a city neighborhood. I loved it. I miss living in Chicago. Horrible parking is just a sign of a good neighborhood. Unfortunately, Goosetown Tavern is not good enough for the parking. Going in, you are greeted by a stuffed bear (Grizzly, I think, but maybe brown). A 6 foot stuffed bear, posed in a snarling, growling, gonna rip your throat out way. And it was dusty. But that was all that greeted us. We made our way back to a booth in the back, because it was fairly full. Everything about the place was dirty. The cute light fixtures were grimy. The floor was disgusting. It just felt gross, as if the dirt and grime hung in the air and covered everything. My date and I sat there silently while we waiting for service. It probably wasn't as long as it seemed, but it sure wasn't speedy. The rest of the place was not silent. There was music from overhead, playing a little too loudly, and the other patrons were quite loud. The staff didn't have uniforms or shirts or even matching colors. They were just in their street clothes. I only knew our server worked there because she came from behind the bar. She excused herself (didn't apologize) for not being speedy by telling us that there were no servers on duty. But there were two other women who seemed to be working behind the bar. The size of the bar didn't seem to require more than one bartender. I ordered a soda. My date asked what beers they had. And this bartender who was being forced to serve answered, "We have lots of beers. What do you want?" My date asked if they had Corona and she said, "No." After an awkward moment, she went on to mention two other beers. And then said, "Do you want a tap beer?" My date asked what was on tap. She gave a huffy little sigh and looked over her shoulder, I guess to try to read what the tap handles said. Then she walked away. She didn't go very far (only like 10 feet), but she just walked away. Then she spoke to us from ten feet away, reading off a menu. She mentioned a few of the tap beers and then it occurred to her to bring the menu to us. Crazy idea, but she gave it a shot. And what do you know, it worked. Turns out that they have some apple ciders on tap. That's pretty cool. I would never ever go back to that dirty little pit again to try it, but it's was pretty cool. I don't think I've ever seen cider on tap before. My date ordered one. Our server brought our drinks promptly and left again. Then she was back in a minute to ask for a credit card. Because there were no servers, it was too hard for her to write up checks, so she was just going to run a tab. She took my card and then returned promptly with it. Then I spent the next 20 minutes hoping my date would finish his cider (He gave me a sip and it was really good). But instead, he showed me like every picture he had on Facebook. When I could take it no more, I went to the bathroom. It was just as dirty as the rest of the place and covered in graffiti. The toilet paper dispenser was broken. The walls and floor were stained and dirty. It was gross. I would have taken a picture, but it was too dim in there. Which was probably for the best. I don't even want to know what I would have seen if it was well lit in there. I started back to the table and was happy to see that my date was close to finishing his drink. Just as I was walking up to the booth, the server was walking away from the booth next to ours. I walked right up to her and tried to get her attention, but she kept moving with extreme purpose. I don't know what that purpose was, but it was so consuming that she didn't see or hear me when I followed her to the bar, trying to get her attention. She sped along in whatever duties she was doing. At least, I assume she had duties that were consuming her, though I didn't see her to anything besides ignore me and walk very quickly. So, I walked down the bar where all three bartenders were hanging out. The first one, my server, walked away from me again, without noticing me. The other two came over to me. I told one of them that I would like to close out my tab. She walked away while the third one responded to my request by asking my name, which I got to shout across three patrons while she stood at the register, which made me a little uncomfortable. Then my server walked up and looked at me eagerly. I told her the other bartender was already helping me. She smiled and wandered of with more consuming purpose. I signed for the tab, got my date, and left as quickly as possible. This was a horrible date made worse by the location of it. I can warn you away from Goosetown Tavern, but you're on your own to find a good date. read more
