This place is so good, and is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Clearwater. The portion sizes are very generous, and you can tell everything is made fresh to order. The inside has lots of room, from booths to large tables for larger parties. The staff is always very welcoming and attentive. Everything feels and tastes authentic. The place is a little dirty, however, they have the best gorditas I have ever eaten in Florida. I ordered the chicken gordita with sliced avocado and it was great! The beef and nopal was OK too but the chicken one was better. They were made fresh and the customer service is good too. Also got the guava aguas fresca which I also enjoyed. Management, make sure your staff cleans the table and chairs better. Otherwise I would have given you the complete 5 stars. read more

I always get the Huarachon Coqueto which is basically a long tortilla with a base of refried beans, then pastor, steak & chorizo & it's topped with a roasted jalapeño, sautéed onions, a roasted nopal & avocado. I've had better Mexican food elsewhere. I had the skirt steak with refried beans rice and salad. The steak was kind of dry and needed more seasoning which is surprising for a Mexican restaurant though the fried onions were good. While eating my steak there was a piece of chicken hidden under it WHO DOES THIS! not life threatening so a shoved to the side. Their refried beans were bland the rice was ok. My boyfriend and I decided to be adventurous and eat at this very authentic Mexican restaurant on a Sunday night. From the reviews we were really excited to try this place out but were a little underwhelmed. The restaurant could use a little TLC and wasn't quite sure if it was a club or diner. One half was dimly lit and had blaring music and the other half had a tv and was much brighter. It was a bit odd. The food was good but not great. The service was fine, if not a little slow on bringing out the food, but the server was very nice and made up for the wait. We loved that they had glass Coke bottles - yum! And my boyfriend's tacos were pretty good. I had the tostadas but the chicken was very bland. I had to pour green sauce on them to give them a kick. Overall this place is good for an authentic Mexican meal if you have a craving. But I am not sure it's going to be on our list of spots we have to eat at. read more

The restaurant wasn't like most places I've been to. It was kinda dark and dirty felling but, for some reason I've kept going. The waitress was really nice and did a great job. I ordered a soda, it came in a can with no ice but since the place doesn't look too clean I didn't care that I didn't get a glass or ice. The chips I ordered were homemade. They were different than I've ever tasted. A bit crunchy and thicker but, still good. The salsa was also different but really flavorful and a little bit of nice spice. I ordered what I thought was steak enchiladas. It was nicely presented but, the steak was just on top of the tortilla and cheese. Once again nothing I had experienced but still good. Are you kidding me?! I've lived in Clearwater for the last eight years and I've never heard of this place!!??? That's practically a sin. Kind of a dingy place when you walk in, where you practically have to be Mexican to order anything on the menu. I tried the Gorditas - Chicken and chipotle sausage. Very good but will do without the added iceberg lettuce. Then we had Campachano tacos which were amazingly tasty. The Mexican Steak takes the prize though. OH My God!!! I couldn't have asked for anything more juicy, tasty and just all around delicious. It was basically epic to put it mildly. The green sauce goes with everything though my fiancé found it a little spicy. Perfect for my buds though. Go go go. You won't regret it. My new favorite place. This is my go to restaurant when I'm craving Mexican food. Have been eating here for over 5 years now. Food comes out fresh , with homemade salsas on the side. The only disappointment I had is that servers often mess up your order. I heard that a lot from my friends who go there as well. I ordered vegetarian gorditas and server brought out gorditas with steak. They forget to bring French fries or guacamole, if you don't remind them. I guess it's language issue. Most of the servers do not speak English, but they are extremely nice and sweet. Prices are pretty low and portions are pretty big))). They located in little plaza , so there is a plenty of parking spots infront of the restaurant. Don't let language barrier to stop you from trying authentic Mexican food. read more

If you are seeking authentic Mexican food, this is the place. Service is good. Tacos are great. We often want to try new places and found this. My only gripe is the decor. It's kind of sterile. Went here after reading Cathy S.'s review. It was great, Honestly I've had better food before, but it doesn't matter. The food here was good, the atmosphere is great, IT'S A TACO STORE! We have several things off the menu, bought a bag (yes, a bag) of FOCA laundry soap (see picture), which really came in handy, since our hotel didn't have any. The saddest part was that they now have a menu in English, and it has pictures. Ordering was just too easy, and lacked that surprise when your food arrives and you don't know what it is. Go here. I just wanted to try something new and was craving Mexican food. Found this place on my way home. I thought of about having a larger meal but it was late. I had the beef burrito with chips. It was incredibly well made. The tortilla it was wrapped in had a great fresh taste and each ingredient, the rice, beef, cheese and veggies tasted great. They took a simple item and knocked out of the park. Now I have to return to try the other items on the menu that all looked great and flavorful. The staff was also very nice. Lately, I have been on a quest to find the best authentic Mexican food in town. After finding this gem on yelp, I had to go over for lunch STAT. As others have said, the building itself is nothing special (a weird mix of half nightclub, half restaurant, but plenty of booths and tables to seat many people, so that was good), but in all honestly I didn't come here for the environment, I came for the grub! Based on others suggestions, I went with the burrito with bistec. The waitress was friendly, helpful and spoke English (although I speak Spanish so doesn't make a difference to me). When the meal arrived a short time later, I couldn't resist any longer. This was truly the BEST burrito I have ever had in my life. Filled with bistec with grilled onions, avocado cubes, tomato, fresh cilantro, rice and beans along with a side of sour cream and green spicy sauce made this a heavenly concoction. It was literally so melty, cheesy and delicious I wish I had 2 stomachs to eat some more :0 Sadly I was stuffed after having just one of these monstrous burritos. I wish I had been able to leave my love for mexican food in the past year, because this place will be bad for my waistline and healthy eating resolutions, but WOW is it fantastic. I really liked my steak tostadas. They had a nice little layer of everything on it. Beans, steak, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and Mexican Crema(sour cream) I loved their homemade Hot sauces. Verde and Chipotle. I used the Verde more because it's my favorite, and I must say even though I don't like Chipotle flavor that much, I did use it for one of my tostadas because it was that good. Both flavorful with just the right amount of kick. All these things bring my review to a 4. The only thing people might not like about this place is that they blare the music very loud! I read in previous reviews that this place is half cantina maybe, but when I was there around 7 there wasn't anything going on so I'm not sure when that begins, BUT it sure didn't keep them from having the music pumping. My wife and I stopped into this restaurant on our way home from Busch Gardens. I'm from San Diego and authentic Mexican food is the number one thing that I'm always looking for. This place FAR EXCEEDED my expectations! The menu is in both English and Spanish, but it was almost like immersing yourself into another culture, just walking in. A very simple setup here; a counter, some tables. The food is authentic Mexican, and as fresh as can be! We watched the cook making tortillas from a huge mound of dough on the grill while we ordered. The menu is in Spanish, with little English translations. I had three gorditas with no meat (beans, veggies, lettuce, cheese) and my girlfriend had a burrito the size of a small child's leg. I helped her finish it. The gorditas were soft, warm, and delicious. They were lightly grilled on the outside, as was the burrito -- which melted the cheese and brought all the flavors together. We were also given some salsa verde (green salsa, medium/mild) and a dark red salsa, possibly roasted red tomato -- and hot. Topped off lunch with a Mexican apple soda (NOT Manzana Lift, which I have yet to find in the US), and was very full -- but still wanted more, it was so good. Again, a simple set up, but amazingly delicious and fresh and (as far as a very white Mexican-food-loving guy knows) authentic. The tables were mostly two seaters -- possibly four if you pull some chairs around -- but there were no large tables for groups that I spotted. The Mexican pop music was a little loud in the side room where we sat (a dance floor, perhaps at night?) but it wasn't too loud to talk over. Highly recommended! Had three fat gorditas, $2.50 each, two would have been enough. The cactus was fresh, very very good food. Another table had a torta and it was really big and beautiful too. Loud Mexican music was playing, but it don't bother me. I noticed the owner or manager doesn't park right up front in the best spots, always a good sign. :) read more

Ah, Don Huicho. Located in a dark little plaza off Drew Street lies one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Don't let those dark tinted windows fool you-- they are open! When you first walk in, there's a sticky checkered dance floor to your left. You immediately walk into a slightly empty restaurant with guests being predominantly Mexican. The menu and handwritten signage are in Spanish. The very dramatic actors of Telemundo entertain you on the TV. You KNOW this is going to be good! Been here a couple times already. You MUST try the burrito. I'm not particularly a burrito fan on a usual basis, but the only way to describe their is MAGICAL. It's cheesy, melty, meaty... The portion size is huge! Favorite drink is also the horchata. I like it in particular because it's not made too sweet, and is made fresh daily. If you're feeling daring, try the cactus. I went in a Wednesday night and was the only Gringo. I could barely understand the waitress. Her service was good, but she didn't go out of her way to be nice. She was a real person. I got the Carne Asada. The corn tortillas were fantastic and plentful and hot. The steak had good flavor and was tough as expected. The delicious grilled onions were buried under the large portion of meat. Both the green and red sauce are really tasty. The red had a smokey Chipotle flavor. I would mix them.
