Easily one of the best secrets in Clearwater... nope, Pinellas County. You will absolutely miss the turn your first time coming here. It shares a wall with a Laundromat. Their Pastor Tacos are my favorite tacos in Pinellas County. They are served with cilantro and onion on top (don't ask for cheese - they may look at you weird as one of my friends found out). The enchiladas con asada is also stunning!!! The meat is perfectly tender, the enchiladas come with either red or green sauce (I suggest the green), as well as homemade refried beans and rice. My girlfriend and I am from out of town and decided to stop and eat here while our laundry was washing next door. This place is very small, hole-in-the wall type of restaurant. All together, we ordered Birria Tacos, chips and salsa/queso, two sodas, and a Fresas con Crema -- the price was around $33 and the sizes of the dishes were very easy to split between two people. The food was delicious, very flavorful and filling. There were only two people working that we could see, one cooking and the other serving/taking orders -- the service was very fast and they were so sweet, constantly checking in to make sure everything was good! If we come back to town, we will definitely be eating here again! No complaints whatsoever! read more

The tacos look great and the tortillas are great, but tortilla is really all I could taste - that and the lime wedges they placed next to them in the to-go container. I came yesterday and tried the beef tacos and tacos al pastor and I love them! I tried the guacamole and chips and were very authentic and homemade. I highly recommend this mexican restaurant and of course I will bring my family and friends to try it! I try to get in here at least once a week, as I live in the neighborhood and work from home. If you are looking for Tex-Mex "cheese and sauce" Mexican food, you are out of luck. If you want a traditional Mexican food experience, Banelly is where you should go. Their tacos are served with your choice of meat (chorizo, lengua, shredded beef/barbacoa), , no cheese, some great sauce, cilantro, onion, lime, and a radish on the side. Their burritos are the size of small children and actually contain a considerable amount of protein, they aren't just giving you a bean and rice burrito with a tiny bit of steak, chorizo (my favorite), barbacoa, or whatever else you ask for. Additionally, the place is parked in the back of a little mercado - there is no shortage of real sugar soft drinks like Jarritos, Mexican Coke (or Pepsi depending on the day), and tons of imported snacks, grocery items, etc. I get certain hard-to-get items here, such as Queso Oaxaca or Crema. And don't be afraid to ask for just about anything, I've found they are very accommodating when you ask for something not expressly on the menu. read more

Banelly is burrito shop at heart. It's a little hole-in-the-wall place that sits inside of a small Latino grocery shop. The food is ordered at the very back and they have a pretty decent menu with low prices. They speak English, but you can tell that this is "authentic" Mexican because some things may be lost in translation. The carne asada is pretty good and at only $10 it's hard to beat. My favorite so far has been the steak burrito, which is huge enough for 2 people to split. It includes refried beans, steak, tons of vegetables, and a nice tasting sauce on the side. The food is made (and cooked) when you order it, so it can take them a while to cook. I'll have to find a menu and upload it because it is definitely a good idea to order takeout ahead of time. This isn't the type of place you would take a date, unless you're trying to seem hipster and "insider" to the local unknown places with good eats. There is no sit-down area. I was visiting from up north and went for a run during the day. I passed this restaurant and speculated the food must be authentic, as it looked like it from the sidewalk. Later in the week, I stopped to pick up dinner for my family of 5 and not only was correct in my assumption, but some of the best Mexican food that I've ever eaten. Honest to God, there wasn't a dish that wasn't spectacular! I fed my family for $70 and plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow. This restaurant is close to my work and my coworker mentioned it, so I decided to stop by to satisfy one of my (frequent) mexican food cravings. I called ahead and placed an order for a burrito al pastor and a quesadilla with bistec for my friend. When I arrived 15 minutes later, it was almost ready, but still had to wait a few minutes longer. I promptly brought my food back to work (there is really no decent area to sit and eat here besides 2 rickety tables in the back) and dug in without hesitation. The burrito is a monstrous portion, filled with lettuce, refried beans, mexican rice, meat, lettuce, tomatoes and a green spicy sauce on the side. Price was very reasonable considering the size (5.99 for the burrito). The first few bites were heavenly, had a good flavor and very authentic, however it was not the best I've ever had. Even though I began eating within minutes of picking it up, it was very greasy and not very hot (temperature wise), could have been a bit better in that regard. Since the flavor was good overall, i kept eating, of course. By halfway through the second part of the meal, i was stuffed and could not continue any longer. My friend liked her quesadilla and said they made it very tasty. Overall, it was decent and i like it since it's close to my work, so I will probably go here again, but it's not my absolute favorite taqueria in town. I'll give it a 3.5 overall. read more

It's a total dive with no real dining area per se, but the food is dope! Perfect for take out. Very little English is spoken here. If they ask if you want it "American Style" say no, get it the way it's meant to be. Trust me, there is no place for sour cream or yellow cheese in this food. I'm currently having a love affair with the beef tostada's. So freakin good! It's priced right, just shy of being on the cheap side. I'll pay $6.99 for a tasty and filling lunch all day long.
