The milkshakes we got here were downright delicious. It wasn't just your stereotypical "standard flavored milkshake with unique toppings". Each one of our milkshakes themselves tasted different. The Oreo one had a very strong cookies and cream flavor while the S'mores one had an impressive smoky taste to it that I've never had before in ice cream. Really, the attention to detail here is fantastic.My s'mores milkshake came with a literal s'mores treat on top of it. It wasn't just a from-the-box s'mores treat. It was actual graham cracker and marshmallow that they took into the back to use a torch on and give that extra-smokey, warm gooey feel to it. It did take awhile to get our milkshakes. One older woman was working her butt off but clearly getting frustrated at the mounting line and the fact that things kept falling. (Good to see: if something fell on the floor, she took it into the back to, presumably, toss it into the cleaning area) At one point, she asked for someone in the back to come help her, but that young teen seemed to be doing the bare minimum. I'm not sure if it's because they're untrained or not allowed to operate some of the machinery, but while this woman is frantically trying to keep up with things, he'd do what he was told to do, relatively slowly, and then stand around and wait for a new command. It was frustrating ME to watch. I can't imagine how that feels as a co-worker. All-in-all, we had about a 15-20 minute to receive our milkshakes. Definitely worth it in the end, but it's just something to note before popping in. I'd say it was definitely worth it for the unique flavor and quality when it was all done. The place looks a little "hole in the wall" with a few tables and chairs in an older building with the single, for-customers restroom in it. If you like the older, diner-esque style building that's been around for a long time, it has that vibe. Both of our milkshakes included a to-go lid right on them that we could snap on. Come here regularly. They have the best, deluxe Milkshakes in Indy. I usually get their demise strawberry & banana which is "to die for." My 13 year olds got a Birthday Cake milkshake with a slice of birthday cake on top (!) while the other got a chocolate-ish with a handful of Oreo cookies in it and a slice of cheese cake on top (don't recall the name). Be sure to ask to see their booklet with picture of their shakes inside - better than just the reading the ingredients on the board, we believe. We'll be back! read more

I have loved Gordon's since they opened! Whenever I'm having dinner in the area, I will stop in and grab dessert at Gordon's. I'm kind of sad that they took away the brownies and beignets, but I love a good milkshake so I can't complain too much! The service can be a bit slow, but I think it's worth the wait. My favorite milkshake of all time is the buttery whipple. It's a seasonal drink that only comes around for the Butter Art Fair season, but I think about it all year around! read more

I personally was very underwhelmed by my peanut butter milkshake because there was no peanut butter taste. My partner got the vegan cookies and cream milkshake, and he enjoyed it, but even with trying his, there was not much of a cookie taste. I really wanted to like this place because it is black owned, but the service was very subpar, we were barely greeted upon walking in, and even when asking questions, the worker was not helpful in answering questions. I've walked by this spot so many times over the past year and finally decided to stop in now that it's summer. I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't do it for me. The milkshake tasted very artificial and was way too sweet (and this is coming from someone who has a BIG sweet tooth). I ordered the red velvet love and the cake blended into the milkshake tasted old/stale. I tried to power through given that the specialty shakes are $13, but I couldn't even finish the whole thing because it made my stomach hurt. I always want to support Black Owned businesses so I was happy to visit. However, from the moment my friends and I stepped in, it was a lackluster experience. The employees and manager were not knowledgeable and they claim to have vegan and dairy free options but they only have vanilla soft serve that comes out of a pouch and the manager brought it out of the back to show us the powdered mix. The employees also mentioned that they buy the other ice cream from a store?? against our judgement we ordered and it was not good, and the brownie sundae we got was covered in lukewarm hot fudge and served over a hard thick brownie..to top it off, they served it in a foil pan. This has been my favorite milkshake place in Indy since 2020. If you are visiting indy or have always lived here, you MUST try this place. The milkshakes are absolutely amazing and being someone who can't have dairy they can make almost any shake dairy free or vegan. Don't sleep on the other desserts they have available like the beignets, they are good too! The milkshakes/desserts are made to order, so depending on the time of the year, the wait can be long, but it's definitely WORTH it! I have not seen this place available for pickup or doordash, so you have to go there to order it. This is a great spot in near Northeast Indy in the Mass Ave. area. It's located in an interesting commercial strip with several eateries, specialty shops and boutiques. Our future son-in-law found this spot for us to get a treat after our visit to the Zoo Lights display. The location was easy to find and street parking was adequate when we visited at around 9 PM on a Saturday. It is a small shop with only three or four tables plus a counter that could seat another three or four persons. The guy working that night was hilarious. It was relatively busy and he was by himself. Most people would be frazzled, but he was remarkably cool and calm. When we got to the front, he told us he just had two more shakes to make and he'd be with us. Five shakes later, he told us just one more. Three shakes after that, he finally got to us. I was not at the counter when the order was placed, but our daughter said she asked him how he was doing and his markedly mellow reply was "I'm doing good, it's all good". Hmmm....Nonetheless, he was certainly a very pleasant fellow. Putting aside the bonus people-watching entertainment, however, the ice cream creations were truly noteworthy. Our future son-in-law got the Midnight Cookies and Cream Shake and seemed quite happy with it. But it was a normal serving as opposed to the other two things we got. Our daughter got the ice cream nachos, which was an impressive amount of ice cream over flaky cinnamon sugar chips topped with whipped cream, chocolate chips and chocolate and caramel sauces. It was great. My wife and I split a Bread Pudding covered with Banana Bread Ice Cream. It was also a massive serving that really was meant to share. The Bread Pudding was served warm putting the perfect edge on this delightful creation. It was not cheap, as the final bill was well over $30 for the ice cream, tax and tip. But let's face it...it was well worth it. It was one of the most enjoyable ice cream treats I've had in a while and the ambiance of the area made it even more agreeable. Following our dinner, we decided to grab a milkshake from Gordon's. The line was kind of crazy and there were only two very overwhelmed people working their hardest to make everyone's orders without getting behind. It probably took 30 minutes from the time we got in to the time we ordered and then to the time we got our shakes. I was kind of underwhelmed by mine and so was my husband. Yum! While I have never been to their actual location, they had a booth at the Wanamaker Old Settler's Days festival and I couldn't pass it up. I had a cone with the Cookie Monster ice cream and I was as happy as a little kid with my lips turning blue and ice cream all over the place (no picture cuz I devoured it as it was dripping down my arm). My brother had the French toast sundae, and it is exactly that...a slice of hot French toast covered in whatever flavor ice cream you want and toppings. This is a wonderful mural painted on a signal box in front of Gordon's Milkshakes, the business that commissioned the mural. It is the work of an up-and-coming artist Ashley Robinson AKA (artistically known as) Ashley Nora. She completed the work in 2021 and it wraps around the entire box. It is done in her 3D style, that has become to be her signature. I always find her work very impressive and she is becoming one of my favorite artists. Prior to Nora painting the mural, the box was just plain and unattractive. It is interesting to note that Nora did not pursue art full-time until about 3 years ago. One side of the box has the work "JOY" in 3D writing. The opposite side has her tag of sorts "@ASHLEYNORA_ART". The main part of the box, which faces the sidewalk, has a young boy, with a shirt that says "MILKSHAKE", sitting criss-cross applesauce and enjoying a milkshake. The boy is also looking at a pink butterfly that is flying by his face. It is very vibrant. I love how she uses colors in the piece. Laid upon that black background really makes it pop. It demanded my attention and was very impressive. The reverse side, which faces the street, has a colorful butterfly. This is a very nice piece and is a must see. It is right off of the cultural trail and easy to get to. There is a lot of metered street parking available in front of and near the box. You will even find a couple of free short-term spots as well. In addition to the mural, Nora created a milkshake that was available for a limited time at Gordon's that paid homage to her home state of Mississippi. She donated 100% of the proceeds from her "Big Mama's Banana Pudding" milkshake to creating hygiene and toiletry kits for the homeless. Murals with a purpose....that's whats up. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other murals and attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. You can walk the cultural trail, get a milkshake or visit the nearby Pattern Magazine mural. read more

The baristas (I know it's not coffee but they should have a name too)-anyway the team make the shakes right in front of you--using fresh, real ingredients. The cookie dough pieces were so good. They put real strawberries in the cheesecake shake and it's also donned with a delicious piece of original cheesecake right in top! I mean! That's two desserts in ONE! It's a small shop so seating fills up quickly especially with Covid- they try to spread everything out. But there is seating right outside in the little alley next to the shop so you'll have plenty of room to sit and enjoy your treats. Reasonably priced a little bit more expensive than DQ but not outrageous. So definitely worth it for the family without breaking the bank. I also love that it is a black-owned business-a bonus for me. It's clean and professional and a very good vibe when you walk in and throughout your transaction. Last time I was there the only girl working wouldn't even give us a sample she said "well it taste like chocolate and Oreo do you really want a sample." Was very thrown off, I asked for another sample and she told me she needed to go to the back to get it and do I really want to try it. It was very uncomfortable and yes if I'm asking for a sample then yes I want a sample. A few other times I've been it's been slow moving, once a guy working rang me up and rang up everything I ordered wrong and had to walk him through the order again and tried overcharging and adding more items, it was weird. He did the same thing to the man in front of me. Off nights happen, but if you're in customer service especially an ice cream shop, expect people to ask for samples and don't deny them or drag your feet if people are asking.
