What a great spot! After an event we wanted a treat and this spot came up on our searches. It had a few spots for parking behind the building and free street parking across the street, but is on a busy road so keep that in mind. It isn't a huge shop but has a ton of options for flavors! There are a few tables and chairs as well as some seats outside. The draw though is all the delicious flavors and even vegan ice cream! Everyone found a fun flavor and were able to enjoy the evening together. I'd definitely go back and try another option as so many good ones. I visited their 16th Street location. They've expanded since the last time I was there. It looks great and much more spacious! I stopped in to pick up one of their Valentine's boxes for my husband. My husband and I drive past LiftOff every time we go to Kan-Kan and we decided to finally stop in here on Sunday after dinner for a milkshake. They have soooo many flavors of ice cream, any of which can be made into a shake or a malt. They sell pre-packaged ice cream pints or you can order one at the counter. They also have other little goodies available. You can get shakes, waffle cones, waffle bowls, you name it. The 2 staff members were friendly and were quick to let us know we could sample any flavors we liked. I got a Corporate Sensation (classic chocolate) shake since that was what I was craving. My husband got a Magneto (Mackinac fudge) shake. Each came with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry on top and satisfied our sweet tooth on our drive home. LiftOff Creamery on East 16th was a fun find for a post-lunch dessert! This is one of 3 locations in Indy and was the one in walking distance from my sister's townhouse which we were staying at while in town for a friend's wedding in August of 2025. I had heard about LiftOff's aviation theme before we stumbled upon it while walking around and was keen to check it out. They carry so many flavors and all are creatively named! Check out my pictures in this review to get an idea of some of them. After tasting a few flavors (the single employee manning the store was very kind and patient), I got a single scoop, consisting of two flavors - carrot cake and cake pop. I'll never say no to carrot cake so this was a must get. I prefer ice cream with lots of texture and mix ins. There was a decent amount here, but not close to Ben & Jerry's level. My boyfriend wasn't massively into his scoop of chocolate peanut butter but was happy with his other flavor, a standard butter pecan. I tried his and personally thought the butter pecan needed more texture. FYI - butter pecan is one of the 3 or 4 sugar free flavors they offer. All in all, our two scoops cost a combined total of $8.07, which is all decent price nowadays. It isn't the best ice cream I have ever had and the inside could use a bit of a cleaning and updating and maybe have more than one person working at a time, but LiftOff is a creative and yummy ice cream shop and I am now following them on social media so I can remember to come back again! read more

I'm very hit-and-miss when it comes to this neighborhood. As a wheelchair user, I tend to require lots of space and pretty close to an ironclad guarantee that when I'm done I can get back into my car. Yet, I drive by this location of LiftOff Creamery nearly every single work day as this has been my go-to route for work. So, the basics: LiftOff Creamery is a locally owned shop. It's a central Indiana mini-chain with locations here, Irvington, and Greenwood. They have a strong belief in mentoring and empowering youths with entrepreneurial skills and opportunities. If you think these opportunities are just about ice cream, think again. If you can't guess, LiftOff also has an aviation theme and a partnership with the National Aviation Youth Resources Foundation. The entrepreneurship here is about equipping young folks to dream, engage, and grow their skills. Then, there is actually the ice cream. 70-90 flavor options with a myriad of ways to work with those flavors. For the most part, LiftOff sources ingredients locally. One word - delish. Parking around this building (they are in a first-floor retail spot in the Penn Arts building) can be a little tricky. There are street spots for sure, though they don't work super well for a wheelchair. The ones on Pennsylvania Avenue are a bit better. There's also a residential area that tends to work well. You do have to be a bit careful as some of the residential areas are particular including the actual Penn Arts apartments. I got lucky and saw a really wheelchair friendly spot. I knew that it was my sign to finally stop. I did. The curb-cuts here are decent. The glass door isn't bad. The entryway is level to the ground. The interior is fine. Truthfully, I've always been surprised that LiftOff has stayed here. However, it very much feels like part of the neighborhood. LiftOff has traditional flavors, creative flavors, a rewards program, vegan options, seasonal flavors, and a nice selection of topping options. I'm inclined to go 4-stars instead of 5-stars primarily because of the difficult accessibility, however, I'd also say it's worth the effort. This neighborhood always feels harder for parking than it really is. With Loudmouth Books within walking distance, this little corner is for sure worth the stop. Like ice cream? Like kids? Very nice place. Every ice cream was named on a boarding pass a large variety of flavors and the weight staff was so helpful and friendly. We discussed that this was their flagship location with others in Greenwood, Irvington, and fountain Square. The decorations were minimal at best. This made it look very clean and sleek inside. You need to leave the building with the key to go to the restroom next-door. I had a two scoop dish one was an amaretto, chocolate cheesecake and the other was Boarding gate-banana something... The flavors were delicious. My daughter had the banana pudding ice cream with bits of vanilla wafers inside I believe. This is a nice quiet neighborhood and it was nice to sit outside. The ice cream is so so good and they have so many options to choose from. The waffle cones are okay, probably from a distributor. They would be much better if they made them fresh like Howdy does down the road. Unfortunately they're always understaffed, I always feel bad for the people working, it always seems to be a couple people probably high school aged. They always look so stressed because they're so busy. Ownership really needs to quit letting them down and hire more employees. read more

liftoff is truly my pride and joy. I remember the first time I tried lift off and I was apprehensive because it's kind of hard to park there. If you don't know that you can park behind the building, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ice cream and the price. In the summertime, you can wait at liftoff for a good amount of time, but in the winter months, you're in and you're out quickly. There isn't much space to sit inside, but if you're in a pinch, there's about five spaces to sit in. They do have around four lawn chairs outside in front of the building that are nice to use during the warmer months. They have a great rewards program and if sign up, they will send you rewards via text message. I recommend to anyone that lives downtown to try liftoff. this is by far the best ice cream place in downtown Indianapolis. read more

I came here due to me having a gift card and this was my first time here. I loved that the employee explained the different options to me and let me try the different flavors of ice cream. I had opted to get a cheesecake milkshake and a cookies and cream ice cream sandwich. Both items were very delicious. I was not disappointed at all. The prices were very reasonable. You can try the flavors before buying and love that they have other dessert options as well. I used to really like this place. I waited in a very large line an hour before close. I asked to try one flavor. The attendant said sure. I said I liked it can I get this, and the attendant said no, I had to wait in another long line of 5 people ahead of me. I understand if it was like one person ahead but like 5 people again is insane. I own a business and am from a busy city compared to small downtown Indy. I've never been in an ice cream shop where you can't try one flavor and order it right away. The 2 workers looked extremely stressed an hour before closing. Overall, I didn't think they delegated their tasks well. Both were filling ice cream instead of one helping the line. Ice cream melts but the groups weren't that big like 2/3 were one attendant could fill the whole order/serve at the same time. read more

Great new-ish ice cream place on 16th street! They have a TON of flavors. They all sound very good. I settled on Michigan pothole flavor, two scoops, and in a dish. It was delicious. Chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cups, brownie bits, and fudge. Two scoops was perfect for desert. This is a very sleek and modern interior and it is very clean! The staff were friendly and my service was very quick. My only complaint would be that I wish there was more seating. They opened in 2020, though. So back then that wasn't a priority and the ice cream is SSSOOO worth it. You need to try this if you are in the area! read more

was just in today with my nanny kids and one of the workers didn't give us a kids cone like we ordered. I went up and just explained what we ordered and the worker immediately got an attitude about fixing it. She said "what do you want me to do about it" and when the orders were ready she yelled my name so loud and repeated so much after I said one minute per the 3 children. After she yelled my name my kiddos were asking why she was yelling at me. I want to contact corporate after the kids thought she was yelling at us. Service is friendly and customers are encouraged to have a free sample of the ice cream first, which helps with so many flavors to choose from. The price is reasonable for how fancy and unique the flavors are. There are seats inside with tables - maybe 20 seat? The decor is sparse but it isn't loud or noisy. The location can make parking a bit tricky, but the Saturday afternoon we went there were plenty of spaces right in front. I especially liked any of the cake flavors - I got a full scoop of the yellow cake. I like the tiramisu (called terminator) but it wasn't as strongly flavored as I would have liked - I.e. very mild coffee flavor. Overall, a fun place for a fancy ice cream treat! read more

I finally made it here after reading an article about how the owner mentors local kids. The shop is cute and there's street parking right in front of the building. I didn't get ice cream this time, but I was happy to see that they carry local cheesecake from The Cheesecake Lady. I also stole several sips of my daughter's boba soda - Jones soda with popping boba. A great alternative to tea bobas when it's in the evening and you don't want caffeine. read more

Who doesn't love a good theme that is executed to perfection? The aviation thing is present throughout but not overdone. The Majestic Milky Way was phenomenal. It was a speciality flavor was a chocolate base mixed in with dark chocolate bits and sea salt. Whenever a piece of chocolate came in it was perfection! Not pictured were the massive scoops provided for their standard ice cream. I don't think I've got larger before. The Michigan Pothole is a 3 chocolate explosion made for anyone that needs all the chocolate in their life. The Load Factor to not be outdone, was just as fantastic with cookie dough in every bite. The service was great and friendly. They offered samples of several different flavors and easily answered any questions I had. Once the order was in it only took 1-2 minutes before I was out the door. There was a small sitting inside and out to wait or stick around to enjoy a nice treat. Everything was reasonably price, especially for the portion size you get!
