Great eclectic atmosphere but that is just where it starts getting good. Soups were tasty and loaded. Sandwiches were incredible, got the chupracabra, shrimp po boy, and chicken teriyaki. Buns fresh baked and very soft. Loaded cheese fries with bacon is more bacon and cheese than fries! Needless to say everyone in the family loved their food. Stopped in the middle of the afternoon but usually their line is out the door. If you like subs with flavor this is your place. read more

Gorgers is a regular lunch-time destination for us. Vegetarians will be happy to learn that fried eggplant is available as a substitute for meat in every sandwich . Today I had the french onion soup as a part of the $7 combo meal with a 6 inch sub & soda. the soup was served in a piping hot ceramic bowl with herbs visible in the dark, steamy broth, a broad baguette slice floating in the center covered in decadent melted Swiss cheese. For their sandwiches they have excellent sauces, all homemade. The toppings are very fresh and often include herbs like fresh basil or cilantro, though if you are a fan of extra veggies you will need to ask. Their bread is so fresh and yeasty you will find your self craving it again and again. Between the choices of hummus & flat bread, soup, fries and salads there really is something for everyone here. My experience at Gorgers was spot on for what I expected, which is to say, a sub place. The interior is very simple, the menu straightforward. I had the Chicken Bacon Ranch and my friend had the South of the Border, both were delicious and satisfying. The things I weren't expecting: Pros: The subs were huge. This is not a Subway sub -- this is an actual sub. I really wish me and my friend had split one, because it was way too much food. You definitely get your money's worth. I also appreciate that they are trying to put a twist on some of the 'traditional' sub options and hope that they continue to aim for simple, clean food. Cons: I would echo what other reviewers have mentioned -- fresher ingredients would really take it up a notch (not to say that the ingredients were bad, but considering what was on the menu I wasn't expecting lettuce from a bag -- but that's probably what you get for the amazing price). I would also advocate that, even though I am an omnivore, the menu should be more tailored to reflect the culinary diversity of Ithaca by adding more vegetarian options. Even frozen (good quality) garden burgers would be a step in the right direction. I had known Gorgers was there for a bit but just hadn't made it. I had read the previous review about a slim selection for vegetarians, being one myself I was prepared for only a choice or two. They now have clearly posted that you can get any of their sandwiches made vegetarian with crispy breaded eggplant! I had the Sweet Thai Chili sandwich and it was amazing, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I could just drink the sweet thai chili sauce. Fries were yummy too, great seasoning. And you def get your moneys worth of food I would just suggest they offer some tofu kan or maybe tempeh as a meat substitute as well for those veggies who don't like eggplant. The bread is fresh, the contents are delicious, the prices are eminently reasonable, and the portions are enormous - a half-sandwich is plenty for me. Try the Banh Mi or the Caribbean Fire. Sandwiches occasionally suffer from structural problems, so be aware that things can get a bit messy. I usually get take-out and bring mine over to the park or something, the seating options inside leave something to be desired. read more

This is the best sandwich place in Ithaca (on top of that, it is also among the cheapest places to eat in Ithaca)...I am vegetarian and enjoyed both their Seitan and friend eggplant sandwiches..One of my friends absolutely loves their French Onion Soup (it is made of beef broth, so I havent tasted it).. Heaven has come to Ithaca! This place is absolutely amazing, so far I've tried 3 of the sandwiches and they've all been to die for. I look forward to continuing to work my way through the menu. Very happy I discovered this place. It's an underrated sub shop in the commons. But as a vegetarian, I really wish I found this place earlier. You can replace the meat on any sandwhich with seitan or eggplant. I tried both the Sweet Chili Chicken (with seitan) and the BBQ Chicken (with seitan). I highly recommend the BBQ Chicken. This is one of my favorite spots in Ithaca. The food is way cheap, the sandwiches are so big that they can be eaten for two meals, and the flavors of the food are hard to find elsewhere in Ithaca. Additionally, the staff has always been extremely friendly. The cuban is not bad, but it's a little unbalanced in flavor. It's a little too salty to me and theres a little too much mustard. I'd also love if they pressed their cubans. Banh Mi- The meat isn't authentic-- it's clearly just pulled pork with hoisin, but with the pickled vegetables and the the cilantro, it's still pretty delicious. I wish they would put jalapenos in it like a real banh mi. Also, the bread is soft which is nontraditional, but I almost like it more because normal banh mi bread always hurts my mouth so much haha. Also, I don't know if they bake their own bread, but it's soft, fresh, and just delicious. I also believe that they own the taco store nearby, but I think their sub shop is way better. I think I've enjoyed the chimichurri the best, at one point I would have said they had the perhaps the best fries in Ithaca, although last time I've had them they added some unnecessary seasoning (that may have been a fluke somehow). read more

Literally the worst "cheese steak" ever. I couldn't believe it! Big roll and tiny little bits of meat with a little bit of onions. Shameful really. Not only that but the place was super hot and uncomfortable, you had no choice but to take it out. Had I stayed there I would have returned the sandwich and said "where's the beef?!". Gorgers is an appropriet name for this place. The sandwiches are as big as a mini van! Plenty for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. Where else can you get two meals for $7 in Ithaca? The place is modest, open kitchen and counter seating for those who choose to dine in. Not much more is needed for this little gem of a sandwich shop. We stopped in last night for the first time and were impressed with the clever menu. You can get any of their delicious sandwiches on either flat bread or a sub roll. In additon, there are several vegetarian options. I had a tough time deciding on which sandwich to have there were so many wonderful choices. I had the Caribean Fire which was spicy and flavorful. The scotch bonnet mustard sauce had plenty of flavor which was balanced with heat. My companion had the chicken bacon ranch. The ranch dressing has a bit of a dill flavor which was great, not your typical from the bottle ranch dressing. The bacon on the sandwich was cooked perfectly. We also had a bowl of French Onion soup which was good, but not as hot as it should have been making it the only dissapointing feature of our meal. We didn't order drinks,and I noticed that there was a cooler sparsely furnished with soft drinks in the corner. perhaps this is an area to work on in the future. I went to Gorgers for the first time this afternoon for lunch. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of their food. I had the buffalo chicken flatbread and my companion had the fried shrimp pop boy. Both the chicken and the shrimp were fried fresh, right in front of us. They hand make both their bread and all of their sauces on the premises, and everything was great and fresh tasting. I really need to repeat that they make both their rolls and their flatbreads fresh during the day. The slices of tomato that went onto my flatbread were so clearly ripe and flavorful that we had to ask the guys working there (who I assume are the owners) where they got them. Turns out they pick up their tomatoes on the way into Ithaca from a local farm. We did not have any of the sides, as the flatbreads were more than enough for both of us, but next time I want to try their sweet potato fries. Both of the gentlemen working there were personable and friendly. They are clearly excited about their new restaurant and it shows through in their efforts. Their decor is also interesting, with some local art hung on the wall for purchase. The only things they really need to work on are their drink selections and their layout. It would be great if they had a soda fountain or cups for water to go with their soda case. It would also be nice for them to have some juices, vitamin waters, or iced teas to go along with the pepsi cans, gatorade, and water. I think they would also be able to sell bags of chips very easily. I can see them having some real issues when they plan to stay open for late night after the bars close. They are going to have to figure out some way to form a line to the cash register while still keeping their door open. Overall, I think Ithaca finally has a gourmet sub place. I was totally excited about what these guys have to offer. It is real food, not processed in some other state and shipped in. They bake their own breads daily and make some killer hot sauce. I am a huge fan of the fresh hand cut fries and would rather wait for good food than be duped by processed trash. I realize that today's population wants things now but good food should take some time and come with some love. They also roast their own coffee beans and grind themselves. Customer services is geared toward the customer so do not be afraid to ask. If they can do it, they will. Keep doing what you are doing guys, the haters will come around. They always do! read more

Amazing, amazing, amazing. The sandwiches are made on freshly made bread, with very fresh, local ingredients. They have all sorts of different sandwiches that are actually interesting. I really liked the bahn mi and the cuban sandwichs. The best part? Only $7! Like seriously, just $7 for a huge sandwich loaded with fresh ingredients. Ithaca Bakery and CTB should go eat their hearts out with their overpriced, small, overhyped sandwiches. I think they deliver too - if they had opened in Collegetown, it would have been a sensation. I shall start at the beginning. The location, is both good and bad. Right down from the commons and directly across from the State Street Theater / Porn Shop. The good is that it is a high traffic area. The bad is that the parking blows. But that is not their fault ... the city of Ithaca needs to address all of the pay parking / lack of parking issues. The shop itself is small, in one of the older buildings with a pressed tin ceiling and hardwood floors. They spent a lot of time decorating the place to their tastes which makes it a unique place to go eat. Seating is pretty non existent, but it seems to be more of a take out place anyway (considering the parking situation), there is one long bar along the right wall with about 10 chairs. The place is spotless. Now on to the important part ... the food. I ordered a beef chimchurri sub. What I got was huge. I don't keep a tape measure on me or anything but it had to be 14 inches with a diameter of probably 6 inches. The sub was packed with grilled steak / onions / kale / chimchurri / microgreans. So much that it overflowed. The steak was good, seasoned well, not overcooked and generally flavorful. The chimchurri was strong, with a strong aftertaste (which may be a little much for some people). The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft as a pillow on the inside with a sourdough taste to it. With a soda and tax I paid a little under 10$. For the combination of good high quality food / size of portions / friendly staff (owners) / and overall value, this ranks as my new favorite sub shop. read more

Give em a shot for sure but, Meh. They boast about the fresh baked rolls and they need to because my steak sub was 75% bread. I was excited when upon opening then wrapper to see all the steak that had spilled out. Unfortunately ALL the steak had spilled out. That was it. Asked for pickles and got two dill chips.
