It absolutely pains me to leave a negative review for Goro's, so let me be clear. This is not a negative review on the quality of food. On the contrary, their food is always delicious and their rolls are huge. One is enough (in addition to their complementary small pre-meal soup and salad) to satisfy a chubby guy like me. Before visiting Goro's, I read up on their reviews. I've been here dozens of times, but had never reviewed them myself. I was a little surprised to find some negative reviews for the time it took from time of order to time of food receipt becuase I have never had that experience in any of the times I've visited. But this time, from time of order to the time we received food (two at our table), was a surprising 43 minutes. Once we got our food, it was the same quality and savoriness I had come to expect, but we almost had to ask for it to go since we were on our lunch break. Overall, great food... fairly priced... don't go on a time crunch, but I still claim Goro's is definitely worth a visit. read more

Les waited on myself, my fiancé and my friend. Today is one of those HORRIBLE days for the three of us, and Les helped turn it around and make tonight amazing!!! He is SO attentive that when my fiancé kept running out of water because his glass was full of ice, Les purposely began bringing by pitchers with no ice! He is hyper accommodating and very very thoughtful. He has changed our moods considerably by being proficient at his trade. The Manager Armando usually waits on us and he has always been consistently considerate! We have always ALWAYS felt well cared for here and the food is AMAZING. Wow, huge rolls here! It can get pretty busy. You're allowed to seat yourself unless you have more than 5 in a party. There's a lot of options. Their sashimi is thick cuts. Green tea is really yummy! I used to go to Goro's a lot in my in college (1998-2001) and thought they were the best thing ever. We even used to see Mr. Goro himself and he would make our food for us. After college, I used brag to my husband and tell him how much I want to go back cuz it was so good. Flash forward to 2019 when I finally get to show off Goro's to my hubby. So either my palate has changed or the food has. The complimentary salad - I like that it's fresh but the peanut dressing was so salty it was like licking salt. The complimentary miso soup - I thought it was fine but my taste buds were shot after the salad. My husband said it was too salty though and I think what he eats is salty. The rolls - fat, huge, bland. Not much else I can say to save it. They were pretty though. Udon - bland. Staff - my husband was shocked we had to seat considering the large number of staff they had working. Also, for the number of staff they had working, it just seemed like disorganized chaos. Luckily, my waitress was on it so I had no complaints about the service. Oh, Goro's. I loved you from 1998-2001 but our relationship is over. I have been coming to goros since I was in 7th grade in 2009 and let me say it is my favorite place to eat sushi at. It's my go to for my birthday for just a lunch for everything. It was very hard for me to do this review. I really wanted to give them 2 stars because my waiter was really nice and made sure my drinks were filled. Thank God he did because the food was awful. I have no idea how they got a 4 star rating on this app but an honest rating should be a 1-2. I've always been able to eat raw fish and even love raw oysters but this fish was so bad I had to pick it out of my rolls. I've never had to do that with my rolls before. Even the imitation crab was hard to put down. 19 rolls had cream cheese in them. 19. I get that it goes in some sushi rolls, but 19 is absurd. I rarely walk out of a restaurant without my plate cleaned or taking it to go. I did both. How you see my plate is how I left it. Couldn't even take it to go because I'd be insulting myself to take it to go. Not only that, but the food took a pretty long time to get to me and it's so loud in the place that I could barely think. I've been going to goros for about 10 years now. It was always my go-to place for sushi. However, this last visit I had this past Tuesday will be the reason I never support this business again. I arrived at 7:30 to meet my father for dinner. It was just the two of us. We placed our order at 7:45. It was a slow night. And they were hosting a party in the other room. When the server brought us our drinks she said "It's going to take a long time there's a party going on." My father and I looked at each other a little confused bc I don't understand why that would interfere with our service. These parties are booked in advance. Well 20 mins pass, she said "still waiting sorry". 30 mins "Almost done" 40 mins "They're starting your order now". 1 hour later still no food. We only ordered 2 rolls!!!! We watched people walk in after us, finished their meal and pay before we even got served. After 1 hour 15 mins I asked if we were ever going to get our food and the server said "I'm still waiting". There was no manager available. We were never offered anything to snack on while we sat there waiting. This is ridiculous. They don't care about their customers at all. They just want your money. We ended up leaving at 9am to go find food elsewhere since we never got out order. read more

The bento box took about 30 min to come out which was fine because I was filling up on the huge roll. The teriyaki chicken was very grisly and impossible to eat. The rice bland. I expected fresh stir fried veggies but they came out tempura fried and tasteless- like no seasoning whatsoever. The shrimp was just as bad. Sushi was AMAZING and it stops there. Probably some of the best sushi I've had while here in SA. It comes with a price though- Service was horrible. Went after lunch rush around 1:30. Restaurant was pretty dead except for a couple tables. Our waiter was not very welcoming, took him about 10 minutes to come get our drink order. He didn't come back to our table for about 40 minutes when friend flagged him down and asked about our order. At that point we had waited almost 45 minutes for two rolls of sushi. He told us they were doing take out orders so we were going to have to wait. Brought our plates out a minute later. The place is in pretty rough shape and in a rough area. Didn't really care about that. I was more disappointed with the service. So if you're NOT looking for good service or nice ambiance, and just want good sushi- sure, this place could do it for you. Well, Goro's used to be a go to for good sushi. Sadly, those days are gone. The sushi, while edible, lacks passion, variety (pretty much every roll was tempura shrimp and cream cheese) along with taste. In Japanese, sushi means "sour rice". The rice is usually moistened with rice vinegar. Not at Goro's anymore. Apparently, it's just straight up rice. The prices have risen substantially as well. So in conclusion, it's not the Goro's you remember...more like the Goro's you'll want to forget! read more

Only way this place has 4 stars is that the rolls are big. But the quality and taste are ok at best. Rolls are heavy in rice as well so I suggest ordering easy rice. These rolls are huge! And most have cream cheese... And news flash, cream cheese isn't really Asian... But again specialty sushi rolls aren't really Japanese either (yes, definitely an Americanized thing because when I was living in Japan, specialty rolls of any sort are RARE). As I don't prefer my sushi rolls with cream cheese, the two that I ordered were not bad, mild tasting cream cheese that paired well. For the price vs quantity though, I had to give an extra star - definitely fills the belly (I can usually eat 3 rolls by myself and here 1.5 I was full). I would've given 3 stars because the rice wasn't very good... Kind of hard and extra sticky. And geez, is there anything without cream cheese? They give miso and salad. Searching for a new sushi place when I came across Goro's. After poking around the reviews online I decided to check it out...let me tell you, this place was poppin on a Tuesday night! I was shocked to see the parking lot completely full when I arrived. However, I quickly learned why this place has become a local favorite. My girl and I ordered three different sushi rolls to share. The UT roll (hook 'em baby) the Letty, and the Stephanie roll. All were pretty dang good but somewhat similar. (Which is more our fault than anything) We crowned the letty roll as our favorite and walked out of there only spending around $45. (For clarity, we ordered some edamame as well) Long story short, if you haven't tried this place, you need to! It will definitely become one of your favorite spots if you do. read more

My favorite sushi restaurant in San Antonio! Same owners as wasabi which happens to be my 2nd favorite. This place is so lovely on weekend evenings! Service is a little slower BUT it's understanding due to the hectic amount of people. They're also always in a great mood! We came here for a friend's bday dinner and there was almost 30 of us total with one sever Daniel. The restaurant is not fancy at all. Dust on the walls, three refrigerators in plain sight and the place really needed a little face-lift. I had the dumplings and chicken and broccoli with saki. I wanted a saki bomb, but you have to buy the beer separate which I did. The dumplings where great but the chicken and broccoli had no flavor :( The food came out fairly quick for having such a large group.
