Recommend: Yes! Food: I ordered the Spurs Roll. It was made with a spicy crab salad, shrimp tempura, cheese, avocado, deep fried and topped with tampico, furikake, and eel sauce. It's is so delicious! I love the crunchiness of the tempura and the flavors of the crab salad. I also ordered the beef bulgogi. The meat and vegetables were so tender. It came steaming hot, smelled and tasted delicious! It went perfectly with a side of white rice. Service: service was wonderful. The wait staff were very attentive and the food came out quickly. Ambiance: I did go on an off day so def recommend you make reservations if you go on a weekend. This is a semi small restaurant and very popular.

We came here for lunch on a Friday. It wasn't very busy so we sat quickly. Our server was wonderful and very friendly. They have spicy mayo and eel sauce in bottle in each table, which I really liked. We started with edamame that had a sriracha sauce toss....it was different but really good. Next we split 3 rolls and they were all tasty and the were huge in size. The price is average for sushi $12-18 per roll. The only thing that I really don't care for was that almost each roll had cream cheese, which I am not the biggest fan of in sushi. I'm sure if I asked them to leave it out they would have but I wanted to taste the menu as is for my first visit. Everyone was incredibly friendly and we will definitely go back to try some of their other menu items.

I was heartbroken when I heard that one of my favorite sushi places, Godai, closed. Then, I discovered Goro's Sushi, hidden in a corner, not too far from me. We decided to eat there for a birthday celebration. And it was a good decision. I did read Chef Goro, Godai's owner, used to be a chef here, so that explains the name. The menu is not as varied as my previous fave place, and due to that, prices were a bit higher, but food was good and sushi can get costly. We had the Johanna Roll, Louisiana Roll, Spicy Crab Roll and SQ Enchilada Roll. It came with a small salad and soup, similar to Godai. I liked the look of the place and feel of the place. It was bigger than it seemed from the outside and had a good amount of seating. It had older looking wooden booths with some vintage wall hangings and darker carpeting. As for service, we were greeted right at the beginning, and it took a few minutes to get our menu, but then, our server took it to another level. It was my father's birthday and, we told our server, who also might be the manager, since we wanted a picture taken. Immediately, after we ate, he bought a complementary tempura ice cream, for my dad to share, and gave him free bottle of wine! It was such a considerate gesture. Absolutely, a big plus for Goro's Sushi service.

Went early as I hear this place can be quite busy. The parking lot is small, they have a full sushi bar. We were sated quickly and provided with miso soup and salad with peanut sauce. It was delicious. Ordered three rolls and they were all of amazing quality, and quickly filled us up. Our waitress provided us with squeeze bottles of spicy mayo and eel sauce so we were more than happy (usually the little portions aren't enough). Then we got fried ice cream which was great, tasted like a funnel cake. Upon paying our waitress even offered to pack our leftovers for us and did a great job. It was quiet, no loud tvs or anything. Good natural lighting as well as booths or tables.

This place is the perfect shining example of "hole in the wall" and "diamond in the rough." I haven't been to every sushi joint in SATX but I have been to a few. This one takes the cake. Their "spicy edamame" was amazing! I ordered the "Sashimi Delux" 15pc. Very reasonably priced. Alone it was not enough, so I ordered the "Macho Roll." I destroyed it, and with the rice, it did the job. I was full. The "Macho Roll" was detailed with spicy ingredients but it wasn't very spicy to me. It was still very good. I preferred the sashimi, it was very fresh and delish!!

Could've sworn I've made a review here before. Kiddos wanted sushi, and decided to pop on over as our previous visits have all been satisfactory. We are always greeted with warm smiles. Food has always been good. Restrooms clean. Dining area always clean and has never been "loud" which allows me to have convos. I'm not a fan of imitation crab so keep in mind when you read the menu if you're not a fan yourself. Kiddo ordered a roll with imitation crab and didn't eat much of it; now he knows for next time. I'm sure if I said something, accommodations would've been met. with my light eater, I thought he was full... Hopefully next time, he will speak up. Then, I could letcha know what happened :)

I was craving sushi, so my family and I decided to check this place out since it's on my "list of food places to try," and I wish I listened to my husband about not going here because he thought it was weird that there was a funeral home next door to the restaurant. But, since we traveled about 30 minutes from where we live to get here, I told him he was being silly, and for to just give it a try since we drove all this way -- plus, I was on the verge of being hANGRY. We walked in and were immediately greeted and seated right away. We came in at the right time because right before we left it was started to get busy. Our waiter was nice, but forgot to bring my husband's refilled drink back -- which sat at the bar for a good 10 minutes, so I asked waitress who walked by if she could get my husband a new drink -- which she did. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered a few appetizers: edamame and fried calamari -- the calamari was okay... I've had better. My husband asked the waiter what rolls he recommended as he's not a picky eater, so he recommended my husband to get the "oral design roll" -- which came out really soggy (waiter said it was fried) and not all that great and it just seemed as if they just stuffed it with "imitation crab" inside and out, and he also recommended that he get the "crawfish roll" -- which he did not like and wasn't all that great. My husband ended up not finishing his food -- which is not like him. I ordered the o-roll. Which also was filled with way too imitation crab. My only complaint with the imitation crab on top (also with other rolls it goes on) is that they should also cut it to where it's easy to grab with each piece of sushi to go with because whenever I tried to get a piece of sushi with the imitation crab on top, the entire imitation crab salad fell apart. I also ordered a salmon nigiri that came with two pieces, and I could only bring myself to eat one piece because the rice was hard. My son ordered the chicken teriyaki, and he said it was okay. Notice how I mentioned "imitation crab." Well...they need to specify that it is in fact imitation crab and not "crab" because we were expecting actual real crab.

This is our go to sushi place. We usually try to sit in Mia's section. She's been a really awesome waitress. Making suggestions that she thinks we would enjoy. My wife is gluten free so we always take out the kani (crab) and never get crunchies or tempura. Lots of seating but they can get very busy so try to go early.

Great little tucked away spot. The Food was GOOD and the rolls were HUGE. I couldn't eat it all after the salad, eggrolls and soup. Service was on point and attentive. I'll be back!

Gathered some friends to catch up over dinner and they all seemed to be familiar with Goro's Sushi. It being my first time, I ordered the beef bulgogi and shared a Choi roll. I really enjoyed both of my choices. The beef entree came out on a sizzling cast iron platter and smelled, looked and tasted delish! I enjoyed the flavor and the texture of the beef, and the portion was very generous, and shared among friends. The choi roll was also a crowd pleaser. It contained a lot of my favorite toppings, crab, shrimp, avocado and spicy mayo, and the combination of flavors and textures was perfect. The service was great, as our server was friendly, answered questions and checked on us regularly. The place is small, but can handle a good group. Definitely recommend.

    Whatever roll

I have been coming to Goro's for over 14 years with my husband & it never disappoints! I used to be a creature of habit & never stray from my usual roll but have become more & more adventurous over the years. I typically now order the whatever roll & let the sushi chefs work their magic. Tonight I finally worked up the courage to ask one of the chefs to make the craziest whatever roll he's ever made & yall he did not disappoint! This has to be by far the best sushi roll I've ever had, anywhere!! It was an absolute work of art, I almost didn't want to eat it, it was so beautiful. I couldn't even tell you what all was on this roll but it was top tier & something I would pay for 1000x over. My husband knew as soon as my eyes closed & the happy dance set in that I was in heaven! Our waitress was very sweet, funny & on top of it! Saturday evens can be very busy so expect a little bit of a wait but it's well worth it I promise!

    The employee

They refused to serve us and they are very raciest to my family and and we waited over 2 hours for our drinks and even longer for our food. And I ordered Dr Pepper and he gave me COKE instead and my mother asked for a Pepsi and got a WATER. DO NOT recommend coming here 0 stars.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of them? We love the Sushi and used to call in a to go order at least once a month. Lately the phone is either busy or nobody answers.

Same, we have not been able to reach by phone for maybe a year now. Only way we know to get to-go, is to go and wait. Not ideal.

Is happy hour still going on?

No they stopped the happy hour sushi specials a few years ago.

Are they still doing their happy hour during COVID?

Anyone know if they're open for take out?

    Yes, they are!

We didn't realize this place was a cousin of Shiro and owned by the same guy until we saw some similarities in their style, layout and menu but nevertheless, the food was still absolutely amazing. Even though the ambiance had some similarities, I'm glad their food options were distinguished because otherwise could have just gone downtown. You cannot go wrong with any of their food options. Highly recommend doing family style so you can get a taste of everything and all the different flavors. We started with the gyoza and calamari which were to die for and were not greasy at all. Pork ssam, wagyu, miso pasta and octopus all brought a little bit of their own element and flare to your palate that it's hard to describe unless you try it. Wagyu was just melt in your mouth delicious. Pork ssam and octopus had their crunchy texture and umami flavors. The miso pasta added a light refreshing touch to balance everything out but don't let it fool ya, the noodles will expand in your stomach. We topped it off with their yuzu cake. Our only disappointment was they were out of their other desserts but nevertheless everyone of us left full and happy. Would come here again.

When I first read about Yozora, I honestly thought it sounded a bit pretentious. Fascinating, but…read morepretentious. Because the idea of music being an actual integral part of the dining experience--not just some kind of background noise--felt a little precious for my taste. I'm glad to admit I was wrong. So let's start with the ambiance and the vibe of Yozora. It's in a fairly non-descript kind of center; not bad but not specially memorable. But the space itself is open and has an air of restrained sophistication. And then there's that hi-fi set up. The music at Yozora really is part of the experience, but it's not intrusive in the way that you'd think. Most of what my dining companion and I heard was 50s and 60s jazz, and it was perfect for the occasion. Sushi and Coltrane are a great mix, and even though we were not far from the hi-fi system, I could hear every word of our conversation, without the need for either of us to raise a voice. Somehow, it's like the music operates on a different frequency from regular table chatter. Suffice to say, the music enhanced the mood and really set a scene for Yozora's chefs to tell some stories. And that, they do really well. We started out with seasonal tempura and miso masu ceviche--ocean trout marinated in miso, soy, and lime juice--that was sublime. But funnily enough, the real star small plate was a truffle creamy miso soup that was earthy and slightly sweet at the same time and was silky in texture. From there, we ordered a series of crudo and battera, each unique in its own way. It was wonderful stuff, accompanied by a rice lager. The kitchen at Yozora is not shy about experimenting with non-traditional flavors and ingredients. Sometimes it works really well; sometimes, not as well, but it's never bad, and the servers actually ask for feedback for the kitchen, which is something I rarely see. Yozora honestly seems to be most concerned with creating a great dining experience, and it does that, from the chefs to the line cooks to the servers (who are helpful and attentive without hovering). The music, the mood, and the menu add up to a memorable experience.

I was immediately annoyed because the music was very loud to me. That could have been due to the empty restaurant, the actual volume or my perception of the volume lol. I was really hoping for a more intimate vibe for conversation. The speakeasy lounge actually looked more like the vibe that I desired but I settled in and placed my order. I wanted some of the showier selections seen on IG, so I ordered the tuna tower and flaming Romeo & Juliet roll and a cute (albeit sweet) cocktail that came in a goldfish shaped glass. When the tuna tower arrived the young server asked me something several times which I couldn't hear over the music, so I just nodded. After she smashed the tuna tower, I figured out she was asking if I wanted it mixed. Lol my bad! I actually did not want it mixed but it was delicious anyway. The Romeo and Juliet roll took forever to stop flaming but once it died down, it was absolutely delicious. My partner enjoyed his roll as well and they gave him a complimentary birthday desert with sparklers. Overall I give service a 3. I would have liked a more professional presentation of the menu, hyping it up a bit. And a less soft spoken server. The food was a solid 5, everything was fresh and scrumptious. Overall I give Uni'ko 4 stars and I look forward to returning. I thought it was a good value given the extra razzle dazzle and food quality.

An appetizer portion of the shrimp and vegetable tempura was very good. Particularly puzzling was the unagi roll. Not only did each piece of the roll fall apart, it was doused with so much eel sauce that it was hard to taste anything else. Looking back on it, I should have sent it back to the kitchen. Of note was the tempura banana dessert, which was a sort of Japanese take on a sundae! Putting crisp, hot chunks of fruit up against sweet vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and chocolate syrup (not berries as the menu claimed) was...well, interesting.
