Ok so I visited this place three times and I will tell you about each visit. Visit 1: 6 Tenders and Fries (Jerk and regular) 3 Wings and Fries (Buffalo) Fried Waffle W/PS Cons: The tenders were absolutely awful, they were fried hard which made them extremely dry and chewy. How one can mess tenders up I'll never know. The jerk believe it or not was flavorless...it was really weird. The regular ones also had no flavor...like nothing at all, again very weird for a soulfood restaurant. The wings were soggy which isn't my thing but if that's yours then you'll love them sauced. Pros: The wings and fries were fresh as they were hot and the fries were delicious. The fried waffle was absolutely delicious and a definite MUST try...like seriously try it. It's actually what prompted me to give them another try. Visit 2: Fried Waffle W/PS Fish Wings (lemon pepper) Pros: The fried waffle was, again, delicious. Not as crunchy and fresh as the first but still tasty. I suspect it sat too long in the Styrofoam packaging and sweat which caused it to become soft and made the grease more pronounced. The wings were delicious and seasoned well. I've learned that the trick is not to order them with sauce, get them with a dry rub or if you want a sauce but also want them to be crunchy order them with sauce on the side. The fish was also delicious well seasoned. Visit 3: Fried Waffle W/PS Wings lobster mac and cheese Cons: Wings were ok, there seemed to be a difference in the temperature indicating that they were not prepared at the same time. Also there was lots of darkness in the outer fried covering which anyone knows is indicative of... well you know. I wasn't really happy about that and cut those parts off to salvage the pieces which were mostly present on the drums. Thinking I'll just order all flats if I order/patronize them again. The lobster mac and cheese was AWFUL. It smelled weird and was not appetizing AT ALL... it had no seasoning in it...not too mention for the price the serving seemed rather small but that's neither here nor there cause I won't be ordering that ever again in life. So let's see, I didn't eat the tenders from the first visit or the lobster mac and cheese gon the third visit so I wasted about $20+ but hey it's what happens when you try new places I guess. I just wish I had a pet bear to feed all of this wasted food to...lol Anyhoo... that's my candid take of Gossip Shack 2. Take Aways: Steer clear of the extremely desert dry, hard and flavorless tenders and the unseasoned, weird smelling lobster Mac and cheese. Fried Waffle W/PS is a MUST TRY! The fish and fries were tasty and fresh and the wings are good when prepared properly. Update: I now see why some of the reviews are not as high and speak about consistency. I ordered two more times and on both orders the waffle was not the normal Belgian sized waffle but two thin little ego sized waffles which is not the same quality or price wise. On one of the orders the chicken was not hot at all and the fries were stale i.e. clearly not fresh at all...smh. Consistency is important. Five stars is achievable with a few tweaks but mainly with consistency. read more

It's as if God came down and touched these wings with his own finger. This is, hands-down, my favorite wing spot in Austin Texas! I've literally not had any wings that were better than these! The staff is super friendly and they don't mind spending time with you explaining the sauces on everything! I can't say that I have a favorite flavor yet, because I've not tried them all, but once I do I'll let you guys know. My boyfriend bought me some 6 piece wings with waffle fries on UberEats. Ordering was very confusing, as we weren't sure if the ranch was on the side or actually the sauce on the wings. So, I ended up choosing the cajun lemon pepper and the "just ranch," thinking that it was a side of ranch. When I got my food, I thought that they had forgotten the ranch, and was confused to see two different flavored wings. Aside from that, the wings were pretty good. They're huge! If this is Gossip Shack 2, I want to go to Gossip Shack 1. In a nutshell: huge, enormous, flavorful, handcrafted, perfectly seasoned, and distinctly textured chicken wings at a price that can't be beat. The wings here are incredibly large. 10 wings was enough to fill me up completely. 5 buffalo, 5 cajun lemon pepper, and waffle fries with cajun/spicy ranch. I firmly believe that wings need a textural difference. The outside MUST be crispy or somewhat crunchy and the interior MUST be tender and juicy. What blows me away about GS is that the wings are crispy and crunchy on the outside in the best possible way yet the interior is so unbelievably cooked. The wings are also neither under- or over-fried and the seasonings are so amazingly well made. The individual spices of the Cajun Lemon pepper were clearly visible under close inspection: this wasn't just random powder blend. Legitimate spices were used in their mix. My only complaint: in the lemon pepper, I think there needs to be more of a lemon kick. Scale up by 15%, I'd say. But that's my personal preference: I'm a lemon pepper addict. Additionally, the dry rubs seem to dry out the chicken to the extent that it causes the exterior to have a cracker-like dryness (only experienced this on 1 wing). I think maybe a different type of flour is used (potato? corn?) with their dry rubs to make it so crunchy... but I'm just speculating. Wings still blow Rolling Rooster/Pluckers out of the park. Another impressive point is that even if the wing flavor uses a wet sauce, the wing maintains it texture. The wings don't have a soggy or soaked consistency: just a perfectly well-coated wing in the sauce of your choice. The waffle fries are fried to a crisp. Some folks may not like that hard of a texture, but the exterior of the fries are extremely crispy. For those who prefer Chik-Fil-A type fries (mostly soft with a thin crisp) may not enjoy them. Personally, I loved the waffle fries. Upon walking into GS2, I wasn't impressed by the interior. But I don't go out to eat to stare at a restaurant's walls and decorations. I'm there to chow down, and believe me, GS doesn't hold back. I've already shared this place with my friends and I hope to go back with them soon. read more

This review is strictly for the wings. I got 20 wings in 2 flavors - The Kenya and Cajun Jalapeño. First the wings: They were pretty big compared to chain wings (Pluckers, Hooters etc.). They were fried perfectly. The batter was light and crispy and really held both the sauce and dry rub really well. They didn't taste overseasoned and It tasted very balanced. The meat was still moist and retained the heat really well even after 15-20min sitting out. The sauces The Kenya: I asked what was the hottest wings and was pointed to the Cajun Jalapeño, but in big red letters next to the Kenya it said "Hot". So how hot it was and the nice lady in the front grabbed the Chef and he said it's hot, but he could make it really hot if I wanted. And I said yes. Make it HOT. And it was Hot -- almost all CAPS hot, but it was just hot. I think Chef didn't think I could take so I think he took it easy on me, but it give me a nice comfortable burn. The sauce was nice and thick and covered the wings like it was dipped in vat of deep maroon wing sludge. It had a heavy pepper-y profile with a nice light vinegar kick. Prepare to constantly lick your fingers -- so grab extra napkins! Cajun Jalapeño: The dust that was put on really coated the wings evenly and it really had a good mouthfeel when you ate it. I was waiting for spice, but didn't get any unfortunately, but the taste reminded me of a lemon pepper type wing, minus the lemon and pepper, but it had a nice tang and there was a hint of spice. Although I would have liked it a little more spicier, it was still tasty. Last thoughts: Will definitely be back. Really friendly service and my family and I felt really taken care of. If I had some feedback is that it took a little while for the food to come out (30min-ish), and it seemed like there were quite a few phone orders. Waited over 30 minutes to receive my order and during that time witnessed multiple people say their order was incorrect. Checked my order before leaving and no surprise, it was incorrect so had to wait a few more minutes to receive the other part of my order. First tip, order ahead of time. Second tip, make sure you check your orders to go before leaving. The worst part of my experience wasn't even the time I had to wait to receive my order. However when I received my order, I did not receive the waffle. Upon speaking with a manager, the generic side is fries if waffle is not specified. When we arrived our food was still being cooked and had to wait :12 mins for our order to be completed. Once completed the young lady walked our order out to our vehicle. The meal was on pointe. The chicken was fresh and you could tell it was cooked in some fresh oil. To me all waffles taste the same but my kid's said it's definitely better than IHOP waffles. We will definitely be returning. I'm excited that they have expanded their menu. However, we always go for the wings. I have switched up the side items from regular fries to their Mac n cheese bites. The mac n cheese bits are good when they are hot. I recommend warming them up if you aren't going to eat them right away. I've tried a few flavors of wings in flats and drums. The flavors are always on point. However, I feel that their breading can be a bit heavy for my liking. But the chicken is, for the most part, tender, which is why I'm giving it four stars.
