I used to visit Gotan on a regular basis when they had a location in Midtown West and it was one of my favorite spots for lunch. I visited over the weekend and had a less pleasant experience, although it likely could have been that I ordered the wrong thing. The restaurant is comfortable and looks nice, however on this visit, I waited nearly 30 minutes for a takeout BLAT. The bacon wasn't crispy. The avocado was just a little mash on multigrain bread. The lettuce was iceberg, and the tomatoes were good. I believe the sandwich cost around $17 and was not fulfilling. When I inquired about why it was taking so long they looked at me like I was crazy. They weren't even apologetic. If I'm in the area at a less busy time I may give this place another shot because I really did have fond memories in the past. read more

Cute neighborhood coffeeshop. Crowded on a Sunday morning but with plenty of seating. Attempting to order a large glass of whole milk led to the bafflement of the barista. Took about 5 sentences more to pinpoint my order. Ended up receiving a medium cup of what might have been 2%, can't be sure, but definitely not a large. The $10.50 yogurt granola bowl photographs nicely but just isn't enough food. Would expect double the amount of yogurt and granola at this insane price point. I downloaded Yelp to post this review as I haven't done a review in the last 5 years though I felt the need to let future customers know about the customer service here. I ordered a sandwich, and the team forgot the egg I added to my order. When I asked to add this ingredient, they demanded it would be charged as extra even though I had previously tipped on the order and verbally confirmed the addition with the cashier. I also found a hair in my food though I did not address the waiter on this as I was already disappointed with my prior treatment and did not want to waste the food. Cute outside seating area. This really is a lunch spot with the minimal breakfast option. Got the americano that came in a small cup, i should have known better! It is a cute cup regardless. Red is the theme for sure. The chamomile tea comes with its own teapot and so cute! Food wise it's not bad. Not understanding the hard bread for the sandwich but it is decent. Got the yogurt which was actually decent with all the sweeter condiments. Overall the food items are standard but i sure love the red theme. When I subleased in Tribeca last summer, I would be here damn near everyday. It is probably the thing I miss most about Tribeca. That Gotan breakfast single handedly kept me alive, with the PB&J sandwich also getting A LOT of minutes. You can quite literally taste the quality of ingredients. The thing I love most, is if I could create a coffee shop to just post up in and relax, this would be it. It has fantastic natural light, great people watching, beautiful light fixtures, and an open floorplan that I just find inviting and inspiring. I feel as free as a female gymnast in my body when I am in Gotan. There is no wifi which kind of sucks, but if there was there would be no open seats and people jamming away on their laptops, kind of like I am doing right now with my hotspot on ahahaha. Normally, I would just come here to decompress and read a book or write a bit. I came into Gotan for lunch and had a nice visit. I ordered the Fattoush salad which is a Greek style salad without lettuce. It comes with feta, tomatoes, cucumber tossed in a light oil & vinegar based dressing. The butternut squash soup was really good and a very large bowl. The toast came with a fresh tapenade spread made with fresh parsley. It was delicious and complemented the soup perfectly. Was looking for a cafe nearby to get some work done, and Gotan really had the perfect vibes. The only downside is that I wish they had wifi (which was surprising they didn't have it given how many people had their laptops open here!). It wasn't too crowded on a weekday morning, though more people started trickling in at around noon and almost every table was filled. Service was quick and efficient, and they had waiters circling around, despite it being a cafe. I got the Matcha Latte and the Chicken Cauliflower salad. Both were very decent. My friend and I tried going to bubbys but the line was super long so we ended up going to gotan. It was easy and quick to find a spot and it's a nice cafe with lots of outlets but no wifi. Gotan is a casual Tribeca cafe with plenty of seating and light bites to savor while you work or study. Seating is first come first serve but seems like there is usually a quick turnaround, so I doubt you'll have trouble finding a place to sit. The coffee is decent, albeit expensive. I'll be disappointed to report that there is no public Wi-Fi, although this place often appears on lists of cafes that are good to study or work at. They do have a bathroom for patrons, but it is very dirty so I really hope that it doesn't reflect the state of their kitchen. read more

As you walk in the first thing you notice is that it is warm and beautifully decorated. The menu is trendy, healthy, and unbelievably delicious. The coffee is made with care. I saw a barista prepare my coffee with the most delicate care and artistic flair, and it came out beautifully. To top it all off they play a great selection of music that fits the ambiance. Everything from Louis Armstrong to Ella Fitzgerald just tops off a perfect meal and great conversation. This is one place I'm coming back to. read more

Gotan breakfast (5/5): I should've ordered this because it was so good. The menu made it sound so complicated, but everything came together beautifully. Mediterranean salad was super fresh and helped balance out the somewhat greasy egg and potatoes. I really liked the warm and herby tasting pita bread when dipped in labne cheese. Solid salad place! My only complaint is the bread with what looks like pesto wasn't pesto. It was this citrus like taste? Not sure what if was but I would've rather had the plain bread. So upset that on Google & Yelp it said they have free Wi-Fi but they do NOT!
