Overall: 4.5/5 One of my favorite things about this place is that they use organic oat milk as their default, so no worrying about lactose or paying a surcharge for alternative milk. They also have cocktails on the menu which is something we definitely need to come back for. We got their spring specials this time but there are so many drinks I still want to try. The space is a bit cramped so it's more of a grab and go situation. The Banana Bread Hojicha ($8.75) was wow, it tastes exactly like it sounds. It was sweet enough for me without needing any additional sweetener. The only issue was that the hojicha came out a little grainy, so I think the barista didn't mix it as well as they would matcha. The Cherry Blossom Matcha ($8.50) was everything we imagined cherry blossom to taste like. A lot of times cherry blossom drinks end up tasting pretty off, but this one actually delivered. It's made with ground cherry blossom which I think makes all the difference. The matcha itself was good but the drink runs on the less sweet side, so my husband added honey and brown sugar syrup to his. By the time I got to try it, it tasted just as good as mine. This was such a great place when it opened but now disappointing! I've gone more than a dozen times now, and the quality has decreased quite a bit. New baristas, and they are not sure how to make the drinks. The atmosphere is now more rushed and confused sometimes rather than the friendly cafe it used to be. What a charming little spot for coffee, tea, and even cocktails! I popped in this morning for a quick pick-me-up and ordered the Kaori Matcha Latte. It has a lighter touch compared to Uji matcha (which comes from the birthplace of matcha), but still delivers that rich, premium flavor. Tried this place for the first time and it did not disappoint! Both the banana bread matcha latte and the Kinder croissant that I tried were absolutely phenomenal. I would be a regular if not for this place being completely inaccessible to wheelchair users. I made an order for pickup through an app not realizing that there is no accessibility here because of a large step and no way to alert the staff because there is no call button on the outside of the building or phone number to call on the door or on Google maps. A man sitting outside drinking his coffee was nice enough to go inside for me and alert the guy at the counter who brought out my order and was nice about it, but without having the tools to actually communicate with customers who need accommodations, staff is set up to fail. LOVE LOVE LOVE this spot. We just went for a second time on our 3 day trip and I just had to buy the beans and take them home with me! Both times I've gotten the Taro latte, which you may not easily see on the menu at the shop, but I had seen it on media outlets and knew I had to get it! The taro which naturally sweet which was great because the latte didn't require anymore added sweetness. My partner got the Provence latte which was espresso, oat milk, and lavender... Truly the best tasting lavender I've ever had. Between the notes of the beans bursting of flavor and the floral notes of the lavender, it was a great buy. They also have matcha and seasonal drinks which seem to rotate so maybe keeping up on their social media's will be helpful before going. And the young lady, Ellie, who made my drink, was equally lovely and hospitable. It's sad to say this, but in an era in which we seem to outsource and devalue "customer service" more and more, having good service is a true gift. Okay - enough social commentary! * I chose a Matcha Latte, which was made with their "default" base, which is organic oat milk. I thought that that's a unique and eco-friendly choice. (That is, at this establishment, they assume that you're getting org. oat milk with your milk-based drink, unless you tell them otherwise.) The ambiance at The Soirée is ideal -- it's both emotionally warm and aesthetically pleasing. And my physically warm (and warming), drink was pleasantly flavorful...not too sweet. I took it to go, since I had an immanent task to complete; yet, I could totally see myself going there sometime (to get some work done), and staying for a while. I highly recommend! * The only suggestion that I'd humbly offer is that, along with packets of sweetener and syrups, that the management put out cinnamon and/or cardamom, in powered form, so that their customers can add a bit to their drinks, if they so choose. ALMOND CROISSANT (ORANGE FLAVOR) - 6.99 Steep price for a croissant, but it hit the spot this morning. The citrusy flavor of the orange shined through the buttery and perfectly flaky croissant. It is pricier than most pastries I've gotten in NYC but worth a shot if you want to try something new. You really can walk around NYC, walk into somewhere convenient and it's likely a good one. The Soirée is definitely a gem in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood that I would recommend you checking out for their drinks and food.
