Gotham's Deli is a great place to stop if you are looking for lunch in Downtown Smithfield. It is similar to a New York City deli but it is located in North Carolina. The walls are decorated in sports memorabilia and September 11th tributes. When you walk in, you will see the Statue of Liberty. I tried to sit in the Mets section, but that was taken as it is a busy place, so I sat near the Yankees. I was ok with the photo of Don Mattingly and don't hate the Yankees, I just love the Mets. I made sure to spend some time in that section before leaving, seeing the 1986 tributes to Mike Piazza, Jose Reyes, and David Wright. It is just fun to be surrounded by the memorabilia. The sandwiches also follow in the New York theme. I ordered the Mr. Met, it had ham, turkey, and roast beef with lettuce, provolone, and tomatoes. I've had it before, so I knew it was good and ordered the full size rather than a half. I enjoyed every bite of it. The service was friendly, and they have daily specials with a different sub featured each day. The food was prepared fresh and fast. My first visit to Gotham's Deli was a sheer delight. The young lady asked what I would like and I replied my first visit so to please recommend. She asked how much I like meat. I told her I love meat of all kinds. She recommended and I thoroughly enjoyed The Dark Knight. It was loaded with meat and it was so big the gentleman who created it saw the "I'm so full" look on my face and offered to wrap the other half, which he did so carefully and tightly to hold it together. Had an amazing meal at Gotham's Deli today! I ordered the 12" chicken parm sandwich with a slice of chocolate cake and both were absolutely delicious. This was my second time coming to Gotham's Deli but it definitely hit different today (in the best way possible). I'm so glad I got a full sandwich so I could enjoy the second half for lunch tomorrow. If you ever find yourself in downtown Smithfield, this is the place to go to. The selections of sandwiches are big as well, from Ham, Turkey, Veggie, Chicken, Roast Beef, Signature, Italian, Hot Dogs, annnnnnd Box lunches!!!!! Oh, they have a jar of huge pickles, too!!!! Today, we ordered the Dark Knight and Dr. K, which you can get with Chips and a drink. Both sandwiches were gone in a matter of minutes. Gotham Deli sits downtown Smithfield, with available street parking. Inside is long and narrowish with booth seating. I ate lunch here several times when I had jury duty. It's just a short walk from the courthouse which was very convenient. I loved the Gimbel's sub with turkey, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onions and honey mustard. I've also tried a few of their pasta salads and they were also delicious. The owners are from NY and there's a lot of memorabilia making you feel like you're actually dining at a deli in NY. Service was quick and very friendly. Ordered a Dr. K sandwich and what a disappointment! It consisted of pastrami, turkey, cheddar, onions, mustard & mayonnaise. The picture I posted has pastrami AND turkey, and it looks like barley any deli meat is on it. I come from the New York/ New Jersey area and was excited to see a piece of home here in NC. For $12 they give you two pieces of pastrami. I felt like I was eating a mustard and mayo hero with a minuscule side of pastrami & turkey. Amazing deli located literally downtown Smithfield. You walk in and it's very much a New York delicatessen vibe. I placed an order over the phone and let them know when I arrived, and it was just about 10-15 minutes until I received my food. My party ordered a tuna melt, brass knuckles, Mr met, and the Hudson. The total was just shy of $57 for the 4 full whole sandwiches. I ended up receiving a tuna sub instead of the melt, but it was still delicious. Everything was flavorful, filling, and huge! (Sorry carpetbaggers, but I know you know...) Fast service, comfortable sporty surroundings, old style diner ambience. This is the midday eating gem of Smithfield and likely for a 50 mile radius. October 2024. Recommended by a local. I'm not a New Yorker but I do enjoy me a good sandwich. Decorations were great. Lots of NY jerseys, flags, banners, etc. Ordered the chicken cheesesteak, chips, and a drink. Got a small or "regular" sub instead of the large. Sandwich was good and as ordered but wasn't what I had hoped. Local recommended it as a great sub shop and I got a rather "normal" sandwich. Sub was average both in size and taste, and meat insides was just okay. Don't get the chance to visit this area very often, if ever, so sadly it's hard to say I'll be back. If I'm ever in the area again though, I'll probably give it another go just to try and see if I get different or the same results. read more

Gotham's, formerly Gandolfo's, is just plain AWESOME. I've been eating here since 2005, and have never had an experience that was less than luscious. I use them often for catering my parties, including my wedding in 2006. The store's New York-themed decor is fun and their large menu offers a variety of hot and cold sandwiches to please the pickiest palate. My favorite is the Soho Chicken Salad and my husband's is the Reuben, although we've sampled at least a third of the menu through the years. Their cheesecake is sinfully good, and they make potato salad that's superior to Grandma's finest. You can get either a half or whole sandwich, and I recommend their budget-friendly combo, which includes a drink and a bag of chips. Gotham's caters at very reasonable prices. You can get box lunches for your business meeting and wonderful party trays of small subs, fruit and veggies. I ordered several fruit and veggie trays for my wedding and my guests were delighted at their great variety and fresh, cold, crispy treats. The sub sandwich trays are a seasonal fave at my annual Christmas Tree Trimming Party. The staff is friendly and greets everybody with a big smile no matter how busy the store is. Food Service can be high-stress and just plain crappy to work at, but I really appreciate staff who don't take it out on their customers. If you want a fast, quick meal that doesn't taste like fast food from a quick-serve deli, head for Gotham's. I have only one complaint: I wish they were open 7 days a week! read more

Came here for lunch with my wife. Plenty of options to choose from so I went with the Sammy called Gotham. Sliced turkey with cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes and lettuce. The flavor was very good, but I must say that bread was the star. Hard to describe, but very soft on the inside with a slight firmness on the exterior. Wifey had chicken salad on sourdough. Doesn't get much better than this. My wife and I drive about 30 minutes just to go to this deli. The people there are always friendly and boy do you get your moneys worth. Me a a group of moms stopped at Gotham deli today for lunch. This place is not kid friendly at all. There were no high chairs available to use for our little ones. So If you have a toddler that needs a high chair pick another restaurant, take it Togo, or bring your stroller. Besides not having high chairs it was very hot! I don't know if their A/C wasn't working or if they don't have it. Outside was actually cooler than inside. Now onto the food. It was good! They have several different sub options. I suggest you look at their menu online before ordering. Their service was quick, so you don't have that much time to look at their large menu before it's your turn to order. I did like that they have a kids menu. They had a good hotdog meal, it comes with chips and a drink. Pretty good price about $5. read more
