Went to St. George's for the first time today though I have lived in the area for 12 years. I love an Italian sub so that is what I wanted to try. Bread makes the sub and this one had some delicious bread. However I agree with some other reviews. Little bit of meat and veggies were skimpy. Also tomato wedges don't belong on subs. Ordered a Chicken Shawama....what I got wasn't anything anywhere near that. Maybe it was a chicken wrap? But definitely not a shawarma. Also, while waiting for food, inside the restaurant, someone came in and begged us for money. Right in front of the owner of the restaurant. They had a sign and everything. Inside the place. The owners did nothing to stop it, and it almost seemed like they were in on it...like this is some kind of scam they run. I ended up buying the person food from the place. Quite a bit actually....apparently they were very very hungry. But it all felt extremely fishy. The three times I visited. Dined in twice and take out once. I ordered my favorite sandwich each time, The Gyro. However it is made completely different every time.. they pull cold and dehydrated meat slices and chunks from a prep pan in the cooler. It then is quickly and partially warmed up on the flat top grill. It's Hit or Miss to get meat in every bite as they are very stingy on the ingredients... I felt as if the children that were there with the workers and or owners received more attention and care than the customer, as I had to explain my simple order three times. The meat was somewhat cold on the thicker pieces while the vegetables were partially wilted and.. I have been to the establishment three times with a different person each time and all three parties voiced the same concerns I had.. Third time's a charm, as I was hoping it was the employee not taking pride in the sandwich or the small handful of soggy french fries. However after the third time I realized it's just inconsistent fast food that does not reflect the price they charge. I will not be going back however I'm still in search for a proper gyro. Bad.. this place screams health violations. The wife took the order, and while paying, I watched her wipe the sweat off her forehead. She then proceeded to touch the bread of our subs with no gloves on! Didn't even wash her hands. Kids were running all around the kitchen. Ordered a 5 piece chicken wing combo on dec 30th 2022. It is now 1240am dec 31st and I have vomited twice and have symptoms of food poisoning. The Greek salad was good, but I had to order a side of potato salad and banana peppers (the peppers were missed which is no big deal). The regular gyro looked good, my cousin enjoyed it. I had some of the chicken gyro. It was good, but could really use some seasoning or marinade for the chicken. I'm going with 4 stars because the food was fresh, a good value, and hit the spot. The delivery was on time and the driver was friendly. I would order again next time I'm in the area, but perhaps try a different sandwich. First of all, the service was top notch. They were quick and thorough as it should be. I had ordered the tuna fish that came with mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. I thought that this would be good but added Jalapeño peppers just to add a little spice. The bread was excellent and some of the best that I have eaten. Pleasantly surprised! First, I'm upset with myself for driving by this place so many times. It's unassuming. I guess I thought it would be an average old sub shop. I've never been so wrong. Let's start with the fries: golden (but not too golden), crispy, seasoned well, everything I want in a fry. We got Phillies, St. George doesn't over complicate them like many places do, and the bread? The bread is so soft and delicious. Amazing sandwich. The cheesesteaks were not the best we have ever had, but they were good. In my opinion, there wasn't enough meat. Atmosphere: The restaurant was clean. Due to COVID restrictions, there was a limit on how many people were allowed to dine in. Customer Service: The customer service was good. There were only two employees; the cook and the lady doing everything else. They seemed a bit overwhelmed as the restaurant was extra busy. They probably need at least one additional employee. The result was I received someone else's order. Luckily, I caught it before I left! They kindly swapped out the order...no harm, no foul. Price: Priced fair for the food. We were going out to Clayton for something so I opened up Yelp to look for a place for a quick dinner. Based on the reviews here, we headed for St. George subs. As noted by others, it is not much to look at from the outside. Inside you find an extensive menu and smiling faces ready to serve you. We had the Philly cheese steak and the B.L.T. Both were outstanding. My wife raved about the bacon (wouldn't give me any) and mine was cooked perfectly. Their bread, baked fresh daily, is light and fluffy and just amazing. we are altogether thrilled with this find. We were there late for dinner which gave us an opportunity to speak for a bit with the owners. They are wonderful people chasing the American dream and doing it the right way: hard work and treating others well. I highly recommend this place! read more

Crumbled ground beef with a very small amount of onions and peppers. Just a little cheese, no mayo, no seasonings whatsoever. Actually this review is a revision to a previous review. I had rated 3 stars because I received 3 out of the 4 items I ordered incorrectly from DoorDash. Long story short, Internet was down in the area (true story, I live in town clayton and there was an accident that knocked out lights and internet). Owner was struggling for internet access and told me DoorDash driver was rushing him for another story. This morning, I went back to this store with all the food I had not eaten... which was 75% of my order and explained that I didn't know what happened with my order and it was my first time ordering and the food I got was not even what I ordered and one item was wrong. The owner offered a tremendous apology and food as compensation and took great time to listen to my concerns and give me fresh food that was correct. Moral of the story, amazing customer service through communication an I really felt like they appreciated me being so understanding, too... as I brought all the food back and did not call griping for a handout. I will be back again, and the baklava is on point! Also, owner told me to order directly from his website because it's cheaper than DoorDash and you know you're getting an actual employee of the store. read more

I ordered the two most popular menu items according to the lady working which was a gyro sandwich and a Philly cheese steak. Both were pretty good, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I happened to be in the strip mall and my tummy was growling, luckily, St. George's was right on the corner so I decided to give it a shot. This place is all about the bread! The bread is made in the shop, fresh, every day. I ordered a turkey club which was topped with fresh veggies that tasted like I had just cut them in my own kitchen. I used to frequent the Jersey Mike's that occupied this building formerly. This joint is a step up. Now, it's clean, bright and welcoming. Plus the food is very good. As you can tell, I rated the place 4*. Just so you know my criteria for sandwich shops: Subway is a 2*, Jersey Mike's is a 3*, and Gandolfos(Smithfield, NC) is a 5*. Originally had a hard time finding the menu, but called the store, and was immediately provided with the web address ( it's http://www.stgeorgesubs.com ). The bread, as one person put it earlier, is good. I had the white, and my wife had the wheat. The sandwiches themselves are a good balance of toppings. I prefer mine a bit heavier on the meat (and would be willing to pay a buck or two extra for that option). All the toppings were fresh, and delicious. No, they don't offer the variety that a Subway does, but then again, all of Subway's toppings taste like styrofoam...so it really doesn't matter how many you put on. My one little letdown was that the cheesecake wasn't really NY Style. It had more of a caramel taste to it. You could tell that it was dethawed from frozen. I'll probably skip that option next time. Worth the visit, and your money. I can't wait to try some of their Gyros. They had the grill fired up when I came in. Guess what? Your Philly Cheese Steaks won't be microwaved here. After many recommendations, we gave St. George's a try and have been back 3 times since. The Gyros are great (and, go ahead and call it a Jie-row, here). The "grilled chicken over spaghetti" was outstanding as was the chicken Philly. They make their own Egyptian style Baklava which is the best we've had anywhere. The couple who own and operate St. George's are outgoing folks who enjoy making new friends--and pleasing their customers. 5 stars for this welcomed Clayton addition! read more

Sorry, went here for lunch last week. Looking for new spot in Clayton. Ordered chicken parmesan on spaghetti, half way through eating it noticed that some of the cheese was moldy. GROSS Needless to say I will never be going back. Too bad the people seemed nice but at a restaurant the food is most important part especially food safety.
