Food not as good as past visits. Service very poor almost rude. Definitely not friendly. Did not feel welcome. Won't be coming back soon.

Food is actually decent for the price! You get a large amount, and its definitely good for leftovers to take home. Their pork pot stickers were delicious! They're pretty darn big and its basically a meal in itself. Hunan chicken was also really tasty, not too spicy and the vegetables in it were good. The server there was especially nice to us and took pretty good care of us while we ate, and it looks pretty clean inside the restaurant, which is another thing I appreciate. Messy restaurants are never fun... I usually don't like to eat Chinese food, but Gourmet House is my new go-to Chinese place! I haven't called for pick up or for deliveries, but i will in the future, no doubt. Excited to try more and glad I stopped by! read more

Like most, I've ate at 100's if not 1,000's of Chinese restaurants in IL, MI, FL, and even China Town in NYC and in San Francisco. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the burbs of Chicago is Yu's Mandarin in Schaumburg, until tonight when we ordered carry out from the Gourmet House. The reviews on this place have been excellent and now I know why first hand. The tofu Pad Thai Noodles, Pot Stickers and Mongolian Beef are one of the best I have ever tasted. Very fresh ingredents and not "heavy" feeling whatsoever after digested. The Crab Rangoons had a nice crispyness to it and I cannot believe that in the white wrapper paper there was not a single drop of oil resdue. Usually Crab Rangoons tend to be a bit oily since they are deep fried but the ones at Gourmet house are top notch. This place is right on IL-62 (Algonquin Rd) and I've drove past it many times and never thought twice about trying it. The building from the outside is not your traditional looking Chinese restaurant and looks more like a donut/coffee shop from the street but don't let it fool you. Went here once with a bunch of friends. The servers were rude and unfriendly. She gave me an attitude when I asked which vegetables were in what I was considering ordering. Also, seemed mad when me and a friend ordered water instead of a priced drink. Needless to say, Lily Garden will be continue to be my Chinese restaurant of choice. Gourmet House is my favorite place to get Chinese food. They are quick and the food is always delicious. I have never had it delivered since I live nearby, but their service has always been great and the food is always hot when I arrive to pick up my order. Their number has been programmed in my phone for years! I love the cashew chicken, egg rolls, and chicken fried rice. My husband is a big fan of the walnut shrimp. My family often orders the lunch specials on Sundays and we all share with each other. Some other favorites are the chicken with vegetable, house lo mein and of course, egg foo young. We've driven by this place for years but didn't try it until tonight. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, chicken and broccoli, crab rangoon, and chicken fried rice. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that they didn't dye the SS sauce with tons of red dye. It actually looked like ketchup was added (which is what I use in my recipe) to make it a red color. The SS chicken itself could've used a little salt and was quite oily, but it wasn't any worse than any other Chinese place. The crab rangoon could've used a little more stuffing, but again, it had more flavor than just cream cheese. I think my favorite part was the chicken fried rice. It was quite flavorful. Most places in this area the fried rice's "flavor" is usually oil. My main complaint was that it took over an hour to be delivered. I would've yelled at the guy, but he was an older Asian man who reminded me of my Korean grandfather--and you never yell at your elders. Ha! We'll definitely be ordering from here again. read more

The typical fast food Chinese restaurant, (more like Chinese-American) but they offer better quality product than most of these type places! The wait staff and what appeared to be the owner, very VERY nice people....They were great in a lot of aspects. Well came in during lunch hour and usually I avoid ordering shrimp from these types of places to due to the lack of freshness and cleansiness. Since I heard a few good things about this place I went against my gut. For like 7 bucks you get soup, egg roll, fried rice, and then your dish (Kung Pao Shrimp). Well the soup was just ok. Egg roll lost more points lack of flavor had to pile on the sweet and sour and mustard to give it something, fried rice was basically white rice w/ a lil egg and onion and soy(very bland). BUT the shrimp were excellent. Nice size shrimp, good amount of them, veggies seemed fresh! If it wasnt for the shrimp and service we would have a diff review. I would def go to this fast food chinese place again and order the kung pao shrimp again and maybe just hold the other flavorless items. read more

Was shocked to see a couple less than favorable reviews for this place. Prob just an off day for this place as everyone has an off day. Tell you what, last night I ordered a delivery to my house on Swanson road which is quite a drive from the restaurant. The food came on time, it was hot and fresh. Had Mongolian beef that was spot on, try try try the spicy shrimp dinner poured over your shrimp fried rice it was soooooo goooood! and the general saos chicken although just a bit over cooked was very tasty. Their egg rolls are NOT dripping in grease like my other old source in the area for Chinese food up on Randal road who's egrolls come swimming in grease and charge you extra for house sweet and sour sauce. Gourmet house does not charge extra for house sweet and sour sauce. If you are looking for a no guess place to get above average Chinese food than this is the place. I would suggest that they give you fewer crab rangoons in an order as they give you a enormous order of rangoons but they are not stuffed enough with the cream cheese. I would rather have 6 overstuffed ones than 12 under stuffed ones. add more green onions and crab to your mix. Does anyone agree with me? My negative criticism for this place is not to knock them but only in hopes that this awesome Chinese restaurant will be even better than they are now making just some minor impovements so they even rate higher than they do now. Yelp guided me to this place and I'm so glad! I ordered black pepper chicken (a hard to find favorite of mine) and it was very good! Doesn't beat my absolute favorite from a restaurant in college but the closest sub. We also got the shrimp with lobster sauce - the portion was generous and it was delicious over rice. This place is great. The staff is friendly. I was never big on Chinese food and still at most Chinese restaurants only order Kung Pau. But the Gourmet House is fantastic so I've been trying some more dishes. I recommend the Chicken lettuce wraps. They are unbelievable. I thought maybe I'd try them somewhere else after eating them here and it wasn't even close-so I just stick with the kung pau if I a HAVE to eat at the other place. My wife has loved Chinese food all her life and this is now her favorite Chinese restaurant and we've lived all over Chicagoland including in Chicago proper. read more

So about a month ago we found a really good chinese take out/delivery place not long after moving into our new place. Their food is amazing and the people we deal with there are very nice. Weve had them deliver the same thing every week sometimes twice a week for a month now. Tonight Tim decides to stop in and bring it home instead. The sweet n sour chicken was way over cooked. So hard my gums were bleeding from chewing it. I called and told them. They pulled up my phone number which is in their system and verifies who I am and what we usually order. The woman tells me theirs no way the chicken is any different than the last time or any other time. It's cooked the same way. The cook said so. I said if its over cooked it won't taste the same. She says bring it back in here and I'll make u new chicken. I said I have a broken foot and my boyfriend don't feel like going anywhere ( waiting for her to offer a delivery driver to come get the chicken and see for himself. Never happened) So I said ok how about tomorrow he will bring it in. She says tomorrow is too late. I said ok how about this. How about we never order from u again. It seems u don't know how to deal with customers and admit your cook over cooked the chicken and u aren't even trying to make an effort to fix the problem. Your fix is now or never. She says ok then bye. Hangs up on me. My boyfriend goes up there with the over cooked chicken they apologized and made use new chicken. I would have been happy if she said she'd give me a measly 5% off our next order, a coupon, an extra side. Anything but what happened. Now she has cost them loyal customers because I don't care how good their food is. We will never go there again read more

Yes please! I dig this little joint. The corn soup is awesome. Try throwing a spoonful of your chicken fried rice into it. You won't regret it and you're welcome. I also suggest the crab Rangoon. That's something that I get everywhere but theirs is tasty. We ordered lo mein and that was scrumptious. We also ordered the Governors chicken as it's a restaurant recommendation. It was alright. I would definitely recommend this place. They also deliver and have a drive through pick up window. How awesome is that? You can even order online and drive through for pick up. read more

Food was OK, nothing special for anyone in our group of 5. Beef in the orange beef was suspect. Texture was not of any beef I've ever had before. Also, the waitress was rather rude. If you're not ready when she comes to your table she walks away. So don't think about wanting to ask a question about the menu item cuz she'll be gone before you can get two words out. And BEWARE...the lunch menu they post online is NOT the same one if you dine in. Drinks are included on the lunch menu if you "take out" but not dine in and not all the items on the menu are available if you dine in for lunch. This place has good Chinese food but they lack in customer service and the whole premise of understanding profit margin and customer service. I ordered out last Friday night and wasn't offered anything while I waited. This part I can deal with but its the next part that "blew me away". I got the order and there was very little soy sauce. My wife uses a lot and we are moving so we didn't have any at home. When I asked for a handful they brought me 4 or 5 packets. I again asked for a handful and they said they would have to charge me extra....for small packets of soy sauce...seriously?!? So I paid $30 plus for two meals and they wanted to charge me for condiments. Eat here often. Always for Lunch. I actually go here whenever I have a head cold/ stuffy nose. They have this wasabi mustard they put out on the table that will clear your sinuses for a good half hour giving you some relief from the pressure. She insisted I ordered all large. It is my fault for not checking before I paid...she won't get away with it again. Watch that you get what you order including soy other sauces too. Have also tried the Hunan Chicken, Sesame Chicken, House Fried Rice, Shrimp Lo Mein, Beef Lo Mein, and Singapore Noodles and all were good - hands down, the sesame beef is my favorite though! We have ordered from gourmet house many times but recently have been extremely disappointed are they now counting the amount of shrimp that goes into a dish the pad Thai was all noodles, the Mongolian tofu had No flavor and the BBQ ribs were not done. I ordered carry out from here in October 2016 (I was going to review another Chinese place and decided to peek at this place again and noticed that I hadn't posted a review). My wife and I have a standard Chinese order - shrimp fried rice for her, either orange chicken or general Tso's for me, and an order of crab rangoon to share. The crab rangoon wasn't anything special, and it's usually hard to mess up shrimp fried rice. My general Tso's had a decent flavor, but also some extra ingredients - hair. I found two hairs in my chicken, and actually had to throw over half my dish away. My wife was so disgusted that we haven't had Chinese food until now, over a year later (hence my being on Yelp again looking at Chinese restaurants). I recognize it could have been a one-time thing, but that's a bad first impression and hard to get over, especially with so many other options around. Needless to say, this place won't get our business again, and we're still trying to find a new go-to Chinese joint for us (the place we chose last night after not having Chinese for a year is not a keeper, either). read more

Wow! I guess Ill try it again. I rate it 5 here so I don't damage a well deserved reputation it may have earned since my last visit. I started going there when it first opened. The food was very good, they served a nice drink, were doing a seemingly huge takeout business. There was an older Asian man in a dapper suit there who just greeted and perhaps managed his business and added some atmosphere somehow. Everything was good, and the food was above average. We liked it enough over a couple years to take family there, noting the older man was missing. It seemed it had changed hands and became one of those Chinese restaurants where the whole family was working there. The last time we were there with family, we were the only table there. What I remember was as we neared the end of our meal, the whole family set their own table, brought out food for themselves, and sat down to dinner-and ignored us. They would get up and go back and forth to the kitchen, but never even glanced in our direction. Our food now gone, glasses empty, foottapping for another 20 minutes, watching them come and go, skillfully ignoring the eight eyes glaring at their ten. It was probably 45 minutes since they last looked at us. It would have been funny if I wasn't so incredulous and by now angry-angry enough not to have been back in 2 or or more years. I'll try it again based on all your say-sos. Maybe it's changed hands, or grampas back or something. Sounds like they got it together somehow. I'll be back with one star if need to fix my rating. read more

Best chinese food? Yes. Best any kind of food? Yes! First off, I love shrimp. Once I found this place, I basically stopped going to red lobster and port edward for my seafood. It also instantly made every other chinese restaurant I ever ate at seem like mall food court food compared to this! The lunch specials are also an amazing deal. If you like shrimp, try the Shrimp with Vegetables. The sauce they use is amazing. I think it's a ginger sauce? But it compliments the food without overpowering it. If you don't like it, drive the leftovers to my house and I'll buy them off of you. If you like spicy food and shrimp, try the Kung Pao Shrimp. It's just spicy enough and your taste buds will explode with joy. The Mongolian Beef is also amazing! Amazing! I also really like the House Special Lo Mein. It has shrimp, chicken, and pork in it. The House Special Fried Rice is equally tasty. If you tried all those and love them and trust me enough for more advice, the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce is great, too. And if you don't like shrimp, you could get any of these with chicken and you won't be disappointed. The chicken here is very tender and has a very fresh taste. I suggest going with a group and ordering several things, so you could try them all. For appetizers, I like the pot stickers and the crab rangoons. I'm not a big egg roll person, but they have good ones. I hear from egg roll people that they are really good. But seriously, go there sometime before 3 for the lunch special, try the shrimp with vegetables or the kung pao shrimp, be amazed, then talk your friends into all going, so you could eat some of their food. read more

Placed an pick up order at 5:40 with a very pleasant lady. She said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I picked up my order (3 items) and when i got home, I found one item was wrong. OK, mistakes happen. I called to explain I received the wrong order. The phone was hande to someone else who after 15 minutes she finally located my receipt and then asked again what was wrong so I explained it again. Then the question came, could I come back. I asked them to have them deliver so we could at least begin eating the warm food we had. now 10 minutes later, she agreed but said she wanted to exchange the correct item for wrong item. Whatever, I didn't want it anyway otherwise I wouldn't have called. We finished dinner and then 10 minutes after that I received a call asking us to confirm what was wrong. WOW. I got upset, yelled, then apologized (because it wasn't the girl on phones fault) and told them to keep their food. I'd throw away the wrong dish and never be back. Ready for this...15 minutes later a very pleasant delivery man showed up to "exchange" my order. I explained I had thrown the item in the trash, I thanked him, shook his hand, told him to have great night and closed the door. So 35 minutes of phone negotiating and 15 minutes later I had an order show up. DO the math, 50 minutes and never even a "sorry", just questions if I was sure my order was wrong. Again, the girl on the phone was great, the delivery guy was pleasant, the two items we ate were just OK and the owners were jerks. There are other choices in town that do much better. read more
