Cold Spring Harbor's place you always stop in for something. The original ownership had changed years back and added a lot to their menu.. It to me is still more of a coffee to go place, but has its lunch fans. They used to have some great flavored coffee (chocolate rasberry long gone) and the best french bread on Long Island... I kid you not. They would sell you buttered pieces of it, along with their homemade cookies when buying coffee. They still make great homemade cookies to go with your coffee. Ice cream in summer (not homemade but convenient) and chocolate candy on high chocolate holy days... ie: Valentines and Easter. lol read more

I can't wait to return to this spot! Stumbled upon this place while walking main street. I had a Buffalo chicken wrap which came with chips. The portion of the wrap was extremely generous. The loaded tater tots were so delicious! They also had so many options for desserts, I wish I saved room for sweets! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to returning to this spot! Store proprietors are allowed to enact the mask policies they believe are necessary to keep their employees and customers safe. Good citizens are obliged to heed them without throwing hissy fits. Stopped in here for lunch last Sunday and had an overall good experience. We were surprised to find that there was a 5 table wait when we arrived, but it ended up only taking about 10 minutes for a table. Pretty large menu, but we went with a classic cheeseburger and breaded chicken sandwich and milkshakes. Sandwiches were decent, though maybe a little over priced. Given that there aren't many other food options in town though, it makes sense. Shakes were solid, though one of them could have been thicker. We stumbled upon this place after not being able to find the cafe we were looking for. It was surprisingly busy for an early Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere is very relaxed and there's not a true sense of order but it's not uncomfortable for the staff is very friendly. We started with milkshakes. I loved mine, it was thick and flavorful. The menu is geared toward the healthier side of the spectrum. There are plenty of gluten free as well as vegan plates to order. If you're looking for a health conscious spot this is the place. Stopped by here for a quick bite before touring the town. Right off the bat this place seemed to be popular based on the amount of customers they had. It seemed like a nice quaint diner with sit down and take out options. They also had separate stations for different types of foods and baked goods which I thought was neat. I went to the Gourmet Whaler for the first time last week with a couple of my girl friends. We were so excited because we heard great things about the famous tacos and the home-like feel of the interior. While we were extremely pleased with the overall ambiance and the delicious food, we were less than content with the help. Specifically, a rambunctious middle-aged man took our order, and when we couldn't decide what we wanted right away and needed more time, he obnoxiously walked away and clearly made a comment about us to one of his younger coworkers. I was immediately appalled, but proceeded to place my order anyway and assumed it was a one time thing. However, after we finished our meal and were walking out the door to leave, he made another rude comment about us to himself that we were able to hear. I was very saddened by this experience, and it's unfortunate that the food was so good because I will not be returning after his disgusting and childish behavior. I'm not sure if this is usual behavior for this man or if the owner is aware of it, but I hope now they know and can take action to make sure this never happens with another customer. read more

Serve yourself sodas, coffee and water. Be served sandwiches and food. A simple menu with choices from fish tacos ($13.95) to hamburgers, chicken salad to pizza. All simple but done well. The fish tacos are crimped and breaded deep fried in fresh oil. They are topped with snappy purple coleslaw and a side of mango salsa. The turkey club ($11.95) is built with he usual suspects however the turkey? Fresh sliced thick cut slabs of moist meat piled on top of each other. One of the best renditions I've ever sampled. A 7oz burger is mad formed and prepared perfectly medium according to the party consuming it. Well seasoned is the beef. Stopped in for a BLT to go today--the sandwich was delicious, but honestly, the place kind of lost its turn-of-the century old fashioned ice cream parlor charm it once had which is what used to make this place such a unique and a great stop for ice cream and candy on a summer day. The recent renovation gives this place an anemic feel and did not try to make an attempt to preserve any of that charm except for the antique cash register they saved which now looks oddly out of place near the entrance. Now the place looks so anemic, banal and somewhat confusing inside. I walked in and didnt know where to go, no directional flow for the customer at all. It's a sad shadow of the place it once was. Advice to the owners: Once you remove the customer "experience" from any type of retail establishment, you have pretty much removed your unique selling point (USP), which sadly, is what happened here. You removed the sense of nostalgia from this establishment and made it look like a run-of-the mill deli with seating. read more

Cute and casual place sit down and have a descent meal. My family runs in various times throughout the week usually for a quick brunch or early dinner and have never had a problem getting a table right away. I will warn you though that takeout can get messy. Also, with most restaurants like this a group can get pricey but they usually have a special if you are having to watch your wallet. The decor matches with the area perfectly. It reminded me a lot of the tacos shops in Key West just with a little northwest flare. read more

Came in for a late lunch with my husband and mother-in-law and we all loved it. Denise, the owner, greeted us when we walked in and instantly made us feel at home. The ambiance and space is casual and cozy with about ten tables. Food (taste, portion size, price) and service (friendly and attentive) was perfect. Wow! Just stopped in for a quick bite after delivering a puppy to a local family and can I say WOW! The shrimp tacos are, hands down, THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! They were LOADED with a roasted corn pico d Gallo with an avocado sauce and quite possibly the BEST shrimp I have ever had (I am a shrimp snob and hate over cooked sub par seafood). I asked for the chipotle mayo on the side and also some of their crema sauce and ended up using them both because they were so delish...although these tacos were excellent with out the extra sauces and could easily stand on their own. So here's the deal. If you search on the internet, you'd not think that this place was here. I only discovered it in it's current form, as the Gourmet Whaler. Searching on the 111 Main address on the internets you'll find that it used to be called Gourmet Goddess. The owner today informed me that she recently took this place over and is in the process of making it her own. The way I found it? In between dinner at Graffiti Cafe in Woodbury and dessert at Prime Huntington, my constant search for coffee shops took me and a friend for a stroll through Cold Spring Harbor, and there it was. What a gem. For real. A large space, the Gourmet Whaler contains a coffee selection, ice cream parlor, dessert bar, candy shop, and a unique gift shop. Separate "rooms" are themed, and well laid out, so you can meander through the store checking out the foodstuffs and knickknacks. The knickknacks are very feminine. Definitely a shop my mom, sister and female friends would love to peruse. Very friendly shop owners and staff as well. They appear to make all the desserts onsite with varying selections by day. The only food we sampled was the rugelach cookies. This was my first time trying them although my friend was familiar with them. He said they were decent, not the best he's ever had. I thought it was pretty good, tasted to me like a combination of cinnamon toast crunch and raisin bran in a pastry cookie. I sampled coffee they called German Coffee Cake. I liked it very much. Although it's hard for me to make an informed, in depth review based on my limited sample, I'm gonna start off with 4-stars for this place for it's charm and for what they are trying to do there. Love the tables outside, love the little mini Ice Cream Parlor inside, and the staff seems like the kind of people who want to create personal relationships with their customers. My only negative feedback is that they aren't doing much in the way of getting their name out there. I couldn't find them in an internet search, no website seems to exist, and searching for their address and information on the internet still brings up the old name. Hopefully since they are relatively new, they will be advertising and branding. I'd like to see this place stay in business so I can return to sample the ice cream and desserts! Very cute place situated in the heart of the historic and beautiful town of Cold Spring Harbor. They reopened this year under new management and have made some delightful changes, including a new menu, including breakfast. If you like egg sandwiches, Sean makes the best, their rolls are so fresh. They have everything from ice cream to turkey burgers to homemade fudge and beer cheese. They recently also started selling milk, eggs and yogurt. They pride themselves on their fish tacos and let me tell you they ARE amazing. Only thing is, it's a pricey little joint, but you really get what you pay for. read more

We stopped here on the way to Coindre Hall as it's on the way and looked like a good place to grab a quick sandwich. Skipped the fish tacos, but opted for a lobster roll and Bird in the Hand which is a generously portioned chicken salad sandwich on wheat bread. Service was quick and friendly. The woman behind the counter took out a dog dish and filled it with fresh water for our waiting puppy. I thought that was really sweet of her. To my surprise and chagrin, the lobster roll {while generously filled} was a hot dog bun! Like a Wonder Bread hot dog bun! I was expecting at least a solid Costco size hoagie roll for my $20! That being said, the flavor was good. A better deal was had with the chicken salad sandwich. Service is great. Sandwiches are decent. Lobster roll is a profligate wastrel. read more

Drove past this place and someone said this was voted a top place to eat at in Long Island...yeah not at all. The menu is limited to casual foods: fish taco, salad, pull pork sandwiches, chicken tenders, lobster rolls (special), etc. I ordered the fish tacos. The two tacos came with a pile of red cabbage on them..I mean tons! And a small slab of fish. I don't think there was a way I could possibly hold my tacos. I had to eat it with a fork. The mango sauce it came with was good. The chicken tenders for kids were 3 little pieces of chicken and salty chips for around $8. It did taste good but not worth 8 dollars. The $22 lobster roll special was not worth it. The store sold cute country like things and food. With an ice cream stand and a fudge counter. The strawberry ice cream was ok. Not my favorite. Would I spend another $70 here for lunch? Probably not. read more
