Traveling for work and decided to try Grace O'Malleys. Great Irish joint! Had the Salmon on top of a pea mash along with an Irish mule. Very authentic in the middle of old town Matthews, NC just Southeast of Charlotte. My mule was mixed very well and my food was hot and fresh. I came in at 8:50 and the kitchen closed at 9:00 but they took my food order without any issue. Friendly staff. Seems like the owners/management know how to retain customers. My wife and I tried it here on a Friday night. They did a good job at social distancing and all the staff wore mask. The food was delicious! We got poutine fries as an appetizer which were delicious! We then split the Shepard's pie. They split it for us and we were surprised at how large the portion was when they split it. They have a large selection of beers and cocktails. We've been coming here since Day 1 since they opened on St Paddys day. The service is great and the food is a delight. I am addicted to the Southern Cobb Salad with fried chicken. Their ranch dressing is top notch! My husband had the corned beef and cabbage which was melt in your mouth delicious. Our server Lindsey N. was attentive and helpful with menu selections. After our dinner we had a couple of drinks at the bar. As always Adam, Ray and Kenny serve a perfect pint for the hubs! I was there for lunch. My friends asked for a couple of items on the menu and were told that the items were not available today. I ordered the Irish BLT and chips. I ate half of it because it was awful. The fries were inedible because they were too salty. My friends were not raving about their picks. We had to ask the server for utensils and noticed there were none at any of the tables. He brought us the utensils and small napkins. All in all it was terrible. We also asked them to turn down the volume on the music because we could not hear each other at the table. read more

I was craving a Guinness so we stopped into Grace O'Malley's to give it a try. My wife and I are always on the lookout for a good pub close to home, and since we live in Matthews this was perfect. The Guinness was delicious! We also shared their Corn beef Poutine which was good as well. The only negative thing I could say was that the bartender was not very friendly, she seemed like she might have been dealing with a personal issue and she wasn't hiding her feelings. Just finished up here and must say the wings were really cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside. As for the entrees, between the 3 of us we had the O'Malleys Burger which was cooked just as I asked for. Medium! Juicy burger, great bread! The Irish BLT was huge. Great taste, and the garlic aioli gave a nice punch to it. On to the last entree, typically would have thought going to an Irish Public House the corn beef and cabbage would the go to! The corn beef was very tough, we were expecting the corn beef to fall apart. It was also very bland, no flavor at all. Disappointed on this. Overall the service was great, atmosphere was awesome. We were turned down for dinner while they were still open for dinner! Very disappointed on our first and only visit to Grace O'Malley's while my wife and I spend a lot of time in downtown Matthews supporting multiple restaurants. We arrived 35 minutes before their kitchen closed. The staff reminded us of TGI Friday employees who were talking amongst each other while we stood at the host stand waiting for them to greet us. We were sat with menus and waited a long time for someone to approach our table. The server informed us that we could have drinks only and that the kitchen was closed. We asked why we were sat with menus if the kitchen was closed and she said they decided to close the kitchen with no explanation. The restaurant looks cheap compared to RiRa and definitely cheap compared to every other restaurant in downtown Matthews. Doesn't give you an authentic feel of an Irish pub which tells me their food is probably subpar just like their decor and employees! read more

My wife and I sat inside near the bar on Saturday for lunch. We had fish and chips and wings half lemon pepper and half garlic wing. The food was great and portions were huge. The service was great and the wait staff had on masks. The men's bathroom clean. I would go back again. I encourage everyone to go get the fish and chips. read more

We visited Grace O'Malleys today for the first time and were beyond satisfied. The host seated us where we requested, the ambiance was cozy, the food was spectacular and Tom, our server, exceeded our expectations. He was so friendly and gave us advice when we asked about his favorites. My husband chose the shepherd's pie and I chose the Irish beef stew. We both loved our meals! They were served quickly and were piping hot. Most of all they were spectacular! They tasted freshly made and the qualitt was outstanding. Tom stopped by frequently to check on us and we had nothing but good things to say about our food. The portions were big and the quality was great. I left with a takeout box for my leftovers, no way was I going to leave any of it behind. If you are lookinng for a friendly place with wonderful meals, stop in, you wont be disappointed. They also have specials and a brunch menu too. The prices are very fair as well and they have a good drink and beer selection. Craft beers as well as the traditional Irish beers. What a great place... they were about to close and we called and said we were 5 mins out, they said come on in! Food was fantastic. We had wings which were top notch (excellent homemade Blue cheese), a hamburger that was cooked to perfection and a BLT. Everything was great! The fries looked like standard fair fries but they were fantastic too... I was pleasantly surprised, as the pics posted don't show "great" looking fries. Worst meal I've had in a while. I ordered a simple Cobb salad with grilled chicken. The grilled chicken was so thin I think it had 1 side. It was tough and had absolutely no seasoning. I asked for the fried chicken and server said no problem. When that came out it was so thin I could barely find the chicken between the breading. I only ate a little. I did tell the server it was not good. I told him I understand he didn't cook it. It was my first and probably last visit. read more

Finally tried this place, the patio is great and the atmosphere was perfect for happy hour. I was really disappointed in the food, the fried Brie was delicious but I ordered the BLT but it hardly had much bacon and was disappointing. I thought I would try dessert as I didn't finish my not so great sandwich. I ordered dessert and it came out soggy like it had been sitting in a fridge for days, the fruit was even going bad on top of it. I took one bite and sent it back and told my waiter it was soggy. Unfortunately he was apologetic and took it back but didn't take it off of the bill, I had to ask him to. I ordered their fruit punch drink and it was delicious. I was disappointed that they only had 3 beers on draft, I expected for a pub they would have more than just bottles and cans. I was hoping this place would be better, I'm hoping with some time, they will work on their food especially with the prices. You should be getting bigger portions and really good food for how much they are charging not mediocre food that's way overpriced. read more

I was skeptical about going to lunch here because of some of the poor reviews and the fact that they haven't been open long. But I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the fish fry and it was the best fish fry I've had in Charlotte since I moved here five years ago. My three year old had the kids chicken tenders and she loved the chicken. They didn't have a bunch of coating on them like normal restaurant frozen chicken tenders. Our server was great! I accidentally left my iPad at the restaurant and came back for it half an hour later and she kept it for me. I wish I knew her name but she was very professional and efficient. The only complaint I have would be the fish being served on top of the fries because it makes the fries soggy. But I would definitely eat here again! read more

We ordered an appetizer that was 'unavailable' so we settled for the chips and curry as our waitress recommended. This was nothing more than soggy fries drenched in a curry sauce that had a very mild flavor; not tasty at all. Moving on to the meal, the sides we ordered were also 'unavailable.' Others in my party enjoyed their food but I had the worst corned beef I've ever been served at a restaurant. It was so tough it was almost inedible. We tried it last night ... the app of corned beef and poutine was excellent...corned beef main was gobbled up by son ... my brie salad was delicious with 2 small pieces of brie :(. We have eaten at Grace O'Malley's twice in a couple of weeks because the food was so good the first time, we had to go right back. Eating outside is pleasant in the evening under the charming lights. The inside feels very Irish. Last time I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. My husband had food envy so I am sure we will be back so he can order it for himself. We sat in Katie's section and she took awesome care of us. Never needed a refill that she wasn't on top of and she was really pleasant. Highly recommend!! read more
