Two days passed and they did not call back. Their website lists a downtown location. Called that location four times and got busy signal every time. Over the weekend, i passed by the downtown location, figuring to make appointment in person. There is no business sign --- to indicate this business exists. The entrance door is locked. Although the price was right, the place itself didn't feel so right. The ambiance was the real issue. I walked inside then went to the second floor to what seemed liked someones apartment. I entered the reception area which was very small and waited to be called. Once it was time I was then lead out of the reception area, back into the hallway, then into another "apartment" on the same floor. The room was far from appealing and there was no soothing music playing in the background to help me feel more at ease. The massage itself was okay, although I've had better. The masseuse wasn't very friendly and was ready to show me the door as soon as the massage ended. What topped it all off was when they seemed to frown upon my request to take a shower before leaving. i had a deep tissue massage with sam there recently and it was fantastic. now, this was not a pleasurable massage. it was certainly not a relaxing massage and it hurt a ton. BUT sam knew what he was doing and, as i have learned from years of rehab for a hip problem, it was the kind of pain that that is necessary in order to recover. i think that a lot of the negative reviews here are founded on misguided expectations. this is not a spa where the massages are intended to relax and destress you -- this is a more health-focused establishment for athletes, people with injuries, or just people who need relief from significant muscle or joint pain. i also agree with other posts that this kind of establishment is more often seen in china/HK. that said, they do cater to american clientele by asking if it is too hard or to soft, and trying to make it somewhat relaxing. graceful services is clean, cheap, and their massages are intense. definitely recommend. read more

I purchased a Groupon and went to this place for the first time yesterday. It was in a grimy walk-up. The reception area was tiny and the beat up furniture didn't make it better. But when I was led into a room to disrobe and lie down, it was an area that had a flimsy curtain dividing the room into two, with another client just the other side of the curtain. The table I was to lie on had a storage container thrown on it. I turned around and left. This place doesn't look clean and the lack of appropriate privacy makes it a non-starter. Had a great 60 minute deep tissue massage with Hi Lin (not sure I spelled her name right). It was very firm, thorough and felt like it lasted for awhile. My friend told me about this place last year when I had a stiff neck and needed a last minute massage. Best massage....ever. Seriously. I sometimes go to Tribeca Spa of Tranquility because I take my mom there and it's a nicer ambiance but for a no frills massage, Graceful Services is the BEST. I sometimes buy Groupons -$40 for 60 minutes but when I don't have a Goupon I'll just pay the $60 for the best 60 minute massage of my life. I was there just this Saturday, I see Angela. She's a m a z I n g. I'll probably go back next month. $60 bucks every now and again for a massage that's better than some crazy expensive Spa's I've been to. Just be warned- this isn't a spa. uh oh, I purchased 5 Groupons for this place and I'm kind of regretting it! Maybe I just got a bad therapist? (Maggie). She looked like she did not want to be there AT ALL, completely miserable, and it made me uncomfortable because right off the bat, there was a bad, moody atmosphere. She asked me how hard I would like a massage and I told her "normal pressure, just stay away from my lower back". Wow, totally did not understand me at all!!! She spent a good 80% of the time ELBOWING me in the back!! It was so painful, I would twinge and say "ow", but she just kept using her elbow, at one point she even slid off my back, because she couldn't balance on her elbow due to the oil on my back! She also gasped at this mosquito bite on my shoulder and made me feel really self conscious. Boy, I don't know what I'm going to do with the 4 other Groupons I got! Got a great massage here today through Groupon deal, and I was not disappointed! They give a hard massage, but it hurt in a good way (and the masseuse asked me to tell her if at any point I wanted less pressure, so she would have lightened up if I asked) Now I feel like a blissed out spaghetti noodle and I'm going to buy a Graceful Services massage for my boyfriend, who always complains that massages aren't hard enough for him. He won't be disappointed here! This place is not fancy at all (don't expect a luxury spa atmosphere or you will be very disappointed!), but the price was right and the massage was great. I had a male therapist, and the pressure was so hard and it was so painful that I had bruises all over my back. I had asked for him to ease up on the pressure, but I guess it wasn't enough. I've been going to Graceful Services for a couple of years now. It is a clean, professional, reputable, no frills massage service. If you live in NYC, you know the joy of finding these little places that actually deliver the advertised product at a price that doesn't make you feel guilty for treating yourself. The product in this case is a consistently quality massage by an attentive masseuse who knows what they are doing. This isn't high end luxury (I've done that in NYC too). But you won't regret the price you paid for the experience you have. Place seems a little sketchy right off the bat. Weird waiting room, sterile looking rooms only segregated by curtains, and no music during massage. I was very skeptical at first. But overall the masseuse did a good job. I was a little confused when she climbed onto the table, but she put all her weight into the pressure which was ok by me. It's a small place. very tight space. each massage table is separated only by curtain so there is not really room. all the tables align a row in a rail road shape hall way. I had a good deep tissue massage last summer. I like to go around and try different massages. So I went back for a second time this spring and I found the same Chinese lady to do my massage. Her work is not quite the same as last time. still decently good. I asked why there is no music. It's deadly silence. She said it's broken. My biggest complaint is the front desk black receptionist. I would give 3-4 stars if not for her. She is mean, cold and rude. She does not know how to talk to or treat customers. She had smile or greetings when I first walked in and said hello to her. She is deadly unresponsive and should be fired for her ice cold service. I came out before the spa closed. There are still customers inside getting massages. But if you are willing to strip down in the tinsy tiny space next to your massage table separated from the other patrons by hospital curtains then you are in for a rare treat. My teeny asian masseuse worked over me like an agricultural thresher. Heavy on the elbows and forearms and totally thorough. At times I drifted into drooling oblivion, at times I felt like tapping out when her knot-seeking fingers found a particularly stubborn spot. I'd gone to this place for years and only switched when I found a cheaper place closer to work. I enjoy deep-tissue massages and this place will kick your ass; you'll gladly pay them for it too. The beds are a bit close together, separated only by curtains that the therapists sometimes don't close all the way after you're lying face-down. But I love that they get on the bed so that they have more leverage for the massage, and the warm towel that they use to cover you up at the end and wipe off the excess oil is genius. read more

All the practitioners were herded into the reception area, while all the customers were told to get dressed, then herded out the back. We were out our money. I had extreme back pain, body sore. I had a Groupon (bought two, decided to use one) and the receptionist, didn't get her name, was sweet and got me booked the afternoon I called. My masseuse, Molly, gave one of the best massages I've had in years. I'll be making another appointment soon with Molly to use my other Groupon and I'll be a steady customer after that at this location if Molly is there. I also have gone numerous time to the sister location in Chelsea that also have given wonderful massages. No frills, to the point. I'm fine without all the bells and whistles. I tried this place based on an offer on groupon and many of the reviews seemed positive that I read before I went. My experience was not good. The massage therapist never told me her name or introduced herself. She seemed annoyed even though I got there early because it took me longer to get ready, this all was before the massage started. She never asked what type of massage I wanted. The massage begins and I feel her elbows and thumbs digging in and hurting all parts of my body while she keeps saying relax. I wish I hadn't stayed but once I was on the table I felt vulnerable, there is minimal privacy and the massage room that I was in was like a dressing room with a curtain. There is also a surprise tax that I was made aware of after I presented my groupon information. Once the massage was finished, the massage therapist kept following me around the spa and into reception saying something about credit cards and tips. Her manner made me uncomfortable and seemed unduly pushy. I wouldn't go back but perhaps with another therapist it could be better, but if the vibe you get doesn't feel right, get out. read more

My friend and I got a couples massage package, we were in the same room; but looks like if you get a single massage you will still end up in a double room with a curtain between you and a stranger. That's a bit strange. We requested male masseuse during booking because we were actually given an option for male or female. We got 2 females instead. Massage was at times painful; very different strokes from any other place I've been to which makes me question if the ladies were actually certified in the USA; but ok, it wasnt too bad. I would have given this place 4 stars, but on our way out we tipped each massage therapist 20% of the full price, not % off of the groupon price. Upon handing them money one didnt even say thank you and had the nastiest look on her face as if I tipped her $2. In my book that's a no no.
