I wish I could name everyone that were members of my treatment team at Rise, but a few shoutouts to Nam for driving my sad sack self to Rise, baking amazing bread, and being an amazing support from Day 1, Shari & Zach from nursing for the care, fun, pep talks, and compassion, Dr Mark for his wisdom and pragmatic approach that I really resonated with, and numerous others (the chefs are next-level good, Tessa, Luke, Saber, Destiny, Cesar, Cat, Michael, Terry, Adrian, etc). Outside of the fantastic staff, I'll add that the house is gorgeous, the groups are varied and enriching, there's a good balance between free time & groups, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, and they do a great job of ensuring that you have access to outside appointments - for example, I was able to go to Passover services while at Rise without having to go through a lot of hoops/bureaucracy. You could tell they genuinely cared about the every client and weren't just doing a job. Throughout his time there, communication with our family was excellent. The team took the time to answer questions, provide updates, and help us understand what our son was going through. We always felt calm and that he was in good hands. No program can magically fix everything, but Oak Forest gave our son a foundation to build on and gave our family hope during a very difficult time. Hands Down the Best Mental Health Program Out There…read more I can't say enough good things about Elevations Behavioral Health. It's hands down the best mental health care I've ever experienced. The setting is incredible -- beautiful houses, exercise equipment, pools, jacuzzis, and so many community resources. They even take you on outings to the Pacific Ocean to watch sunsets -- and yes, you *will* see dolphins! From the residential program to the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), every detail is thought through. The Santa Monica Mountains surround you, and the views are so breathtaking you can sit for hours just taking it all in and really feel yourself start to heal. The food is next level too -- they have a private chef who customizes meals to fit your diet and treatment needs, with tons of healthy options. And unlike most places, you get both individual and group therapy *every day*. That's almost unheard of at a residential program -- usually you're lucky to get one or two individual sessions a week. The staff and therapists are absolutely amazing -- they genuinely care and don't let you give up on yourself. If you're struggling, please know you're not alone. Kate was my therapist and she is so intelligent and empathetic that fueled my healing process. The whole house staff was amazing as well.. no words to describe the superior level of care I received. Along with the connections, education and support I received I have never felt so much kindness in my life by everyone during my month stay. I don't feel I received the solid educational foundation or long-term coping strategies I was hoping for. They forced their views on to me. I felt trapped. I did not have a wonderful experience and if I ever have to do the rehab circuit again I will definitely be using places that are covered by my insurance. While there were staff members who genuinely cared and tried to help, my overall experience did not meet the expectations I had for such a highly regarded place. I sincerely hope Avalon continues to improve by listening to former clients and placing greater emphasis on respect, boundaries, practical life skills, individualized education, and preparing people for the realities they'll face after discharge. Beautiful surroundings alone cannot replace the knowledge, compassion, and lasting support that people in recovery truly need. I don't think most people understand how hard it is to ask for help. Care can be personalized. Many of the groups are foundational to success. I had a two month stay. I was challenged by surf lessons and I persisted in the instruction. There is plenty of Therapy and meetings. The outings and beach walks were perhaps my favorite activities. Very few people actually want to be in a treatment center but as far as they go, Avalon does pretty well for itself. Housekeeping and cuisine are well attended.

This place is nothing more than a trap house staffed by individuals that look like they're still in their active meth addiction. Either that or they don't offer their staff dental health benefits because half of them are missing teeth, and look like they just arrived from the nearest homeless shelter. It's dingy, the common areas are carpeted, it's dark, and filthy. Their idea of a 'luxury' private room with king size bed was adjoining two queen size beds together. And they couldn't even do that properly as there was nothing keeping them attached. Therefore you can fall right down the middle. Pathetic. One staff member not only used expletives like a pirate but also managed to call me a Masshole (cause I'm from Massachusetts), only to then give me tips on how to tell good meth from bad meth! Having driven 6 hours to this dump I thought it best to spend the night since it was already dark outside. But first thing in the morning bright and early I was out of there. Though they didn't make it easy. They begged me to please stay even offering to walk my dogs (I brought with me) on my behalf and even take them to the dog park multiple times a day. There I was thinking to myself, 'I don't trust you with MY well-being much less my dogs well-being'! And so I left and hightailed it back to my home. I didn't think a place like this could exist in Malibu, but what this taught me is that even in Malibu one has to do their due diligence in researching a facility. I have since then heard from other individuals that this is a 'body broker' type of place. If you don't know what a 'body broker' is, Google it. Essentially it's when they pay (in one form or another) for someone to get high/use so they can bring them in and charge their health insurance. Alternatively it can also manifest as specifically seeking those in active addiction (regardless of their wanting to get sober or not) and paying/convincing them (one way or another) to come in; and as you may have already guessed: charge their health insurance. It is because of places like Oceanside Malibu that the recovery industry needs to be much more stringently regulated. A place like this dump should not be legally allowed to exist.
