Love our Ollin familia I'd love to see our community grow and watch others meet their goals. I've loved the journey thus far and I encourage others to join us. I didn't think kickboxing would be the activity to get me closer to my goals, but it's the only thing that's gotten me this close and I think it's largely in part to the encouraging and non-judgemental environment Gloria has created for us. There are some who've been doing this for years and others who are starting brand new like I did. Everyone is so helpful and welcoming. It's a great workout, it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

The classes are 50 minutes, and open gym is a good time for kids to really practice skills taught during class, and try out new obstacle courses. However, when a new skill is introduced, time is not spent teaching kids how to properly execute it. The expectation is for kids to do it with one demonstration from the instructor. Then, if a kid can't do said skill and complete the course laid out under a set time, or properly, they loose their turn, are told to go to the back of the line, and they miss out on how to properly do what's being asked of them. Classes are about 50 minutes, but kids spend about a total of maybe 10 minutes trying apply what they are being taught due to large class sizes. Each kid takes a turn going through an obstacle course. The first 15 are spent doing warmups. It's a great concept but I don't think it's worth the cost. The classes can get very large at times and out of the instructors control. The class structure is not meant for kids that have a hard time waiting and have a need to move. They are punished not disciplined (taught), and those kids end up missing out on class time. Kids are better off learning climbing skills, social order and strength training at the park. But one take away from attending this program is to remind kids not to use their tibia or knee when climbing, but to bring their whole foot up. Which also helps with flexibility. This place is structured for preteens and up.

It's like what a real old school gym is like - no classes... you walk in and warm up and the Kru and Sr. Instructors come up to you and provide you with one on one instruction. Honestly, if your goal focus is to compete then this is NOT the gym for you - not saying there is anything wrong with training to compete - but this gym isn't for that! But if you want to sharpen your ring technique - in addition to going to where ever it is that you train now - then by all means come here and learn this style. But like i said... if your sole purpose for training is to compete, Muay Thai Academy is not the gym that will be out there trying to get to fights. Here we focus more on techniques that are more applicable to real life, self-defense, protection, law enforcement, etc - but with the Muay Thai twist to it. So what I am saying is.... Muay Thai Academy is very welcoming with a team of experienced instructors that you won't find anywhere else. I wanted a place that kept the authenticity and integrity of Muay Thai and I found it here.

With so many McDojos and ridiculous UFC-wannabe gyms in the South Bay, the Muay Thai Academy truly…read moreis something different. There is a reason people have come from around the globe to seek instruction here -- it's just that unique. While 'Muay Thai' is in the name of the school, it is merely the foundation of the principle art taught here: Close Quarters Combat. Close Quarters Combat is a combination of several martial arts (old style Muay Thai known as Muay Chao Chur, the military style known as Ledrit, as well as Boar Bando and Kalaripayat, a Burmese and Indian Combat Art) and is designed for street applications: law enforcement, VIP Protection, multiple opponent, military, and self defense. They can teach "ring style" as well, but sport/competition is less of a focus here. In addition to hand-to-hand combat, bladed and stick weapons training are also available. Instruction takes place in a free-form, semi-private format. With the exception of a conditioning class here and there, there isn't a structured class setting like you'll find at other gyms. The Academy is open from 5pm to 9:30, M-Th and late Saturday morning/afternoon, and you can go in any time during those hours and train for as long as you'd like or can handle. Instructors and Junior Instructors walk the floor, answer questions, setup drills, and help you work through techniques on an individual basis, then let you try them out on your own or with others. The Instructors are all top notch, have been working together for years, yet still have varied backgrounds and unique methods of teaching. Collectively, the knowledge they can impart is unmatched in any martial arts school in the area. I've trained here for the last several years off and on (my hectic work/travel schedule and frequent basketball-related injuries keep me from going as regularly as I'd like) and can't recommend it enough if you're a self-motivated, hard-working individual looking for unique, personalized martial arts training with street-applicable, self-defense focus from some of the most experienced combat technicians around. It is a real privilege to live in the same vicinity as this school.

I met him through classes taught at Google, and am trying to get more healthy movement in my life, and his school is in San Jose, next door to my hood. I'm taking Tai Chi, technically, and he teaches the Chinese and Tibetan forms. I'm learning the Chinese since he teaches it at Google so I should stay consistent. My preference is Qi Gong, which I feel is more meditative and simpler in terms of movement (I like simple), but both are gentle enough forms and I am open to learning. One room has a firmer rubber mat, the second room has a "waterbed" format where the mat is stuffed with some soft material and walking on it forces your feet and body to constantly renegotiate equilibrium. Definitely a work out! Ron is a very Western-style teacher. He's said he's third generation Chinese and doesn't speak Chinese fluently, so, he's approaching things from a Western mind set I guess and can "translate." Examples - when he tries to describe the weight distribution of your feet he will often resort to % descriptions, and I think he knows a Western/American mind understands that logic better than other descriptions. He explains why he's asking you to do things, and why you are performing certain forms in a certain way. He is jokey, friendly, open, and conversational. He will test you gently by walking away and leaving you to figure out forms he's taught you, or ask you to do the forms with your eyes closed. He wants you to enjoy the forms versus to become overly fixated on perfection/military precision. That being said, he will correct you on incorrect form and movement. Am definitely enjoying myself and have referred a friend to his class already. I'm hoping it continues to work out and that we stick to it and enjoy it for the long term!

That is not true. My teacher was in Tibet. So therefore he could never have met my teacher. Second the Tibetan he teaches he does not have full authority and lacks the understanding of the teaching. Also he call a Lopon is a high title given to tantric masters. He did not go through the rites or transmission. It is disrespectful. Third to not name me but to try to make me go away by calling me a disciple. Rather I was given full rights as a holder and master. Full master. If you choose to learn fine just know there are Tibetan that are offended but choose to let it go. This all I have to say except he is not willing to talk directly about it. It is fully out of integrity. Just letting everybody know. In 1981, Sifu Lew met Master Peng-si Yu and his wife, Min Ouyang from Shanghai. He also met Master Hu from Tibet. For over 20 years, Sifu Lew was heavily into the external Kung-fu. He furthered his studies in the internal arts: the "calming the Mind and Healing art" through Qi Gong, long hours of Standing Meditation, Breath work and Tibetan Energy understanding. He founded Ti Aki in the honor of my teacher. This would have my teacher turning in his Grave. Just so you know.

As someone with a history in martial arts but limited experience in boxing, Muay Thai, or kickboxing, I was looking for a gym that could meet me where I was while still challenging me to grow--and CCK delivered on every level. The coaches here are incredible. Despite my prior martial arts experience, I felt like I could start fresh and really learn the fundamentals of a new martial art without ever feeling out of place. Another major bonus is that they have a weight room available for use during certain times, which has completely cut out my need to go to a separate gym for strength training. What sets this gym apart is how inclusive and versatile it is. Whether you're training to fight, looking for a great workout, or just want to try something new, CCK will meet you at your level and push you to the next one. The coaches are not only highly skilled but also humble, kind, and genuinely invested in your progress. There's no ego here--just a welcoming, supportive atmosphere where everyone feels like family. Starting a new sport can feel daunting, but the community at CCK makes it easy. They empower you through a mix of kindness and hard work, creating an environment where you can grow both physically and mentally. If you're looking for a place to train that values growth, humility, and connection, CCK is it. You'll feel like part of the family from day one.
