One thing I've found over the years is that great food can be found anywhere. So if you see a small take away spot in a strip mall that looks a bit dilapidated do not judge a book by its cover. Graham Street Grill is a perfect example. Located along N Tryon St a little bit past the popular Camp Northend development you'll find this gem. When I moved to the NoDa neighborhood from Southend, I found myself missing the fried chicken you could get at the Shell gas station. Luckily I did some online research and came across some great reviews for this spot! It's take out only with just a small waiting room and an order counter but it's well worth any wait, the fried chicken comes out so fresh! They are inexpensive with great food which is something that is becoming increasingly hard to find. My last order I was able to get two jumbo wings along with a roll and French fries for under $10.00. They have a lot more than just fried chicken though. Burgers, hotdogs, fish sandwiches, and even subs and gyros. Not to mention they offer some home style breakfast that is hard to beat. I was extremely disappointed with my lunch from Graham St. Grill. Unfortunately, out of three meals ordered, only one was correct. The chicken livers looked like they had been fried in very old grease--they were so dark they were almost black--and the hash brown side that was supposed to come with the meal was completely missing. The shrimp plate never arrived at all. Instead, I received what appeared to be chicken tenders, but they looked practically boiled because there wasn't a single sign of browning or grilling on them. Even the sides were incorrect. The fried okra was right, but I received French fries instead of the slaw I ordered. The only meal that was actually correct was the perch plate. One correct meal out of three is simply unacceptable, especially when the food that did arrive was so unappetizing. Overall, this was a TERRIBLE lunch experience. I've been ordering from Graham Street Grill for months now, and normally the food is really good, which is exactly why I felt the need to say something about today's order. I'm not someone who complains just to complain because I know every restaurant can have an off day, but this breakfast honestly missed the mark. The home fries are usually my favorite part of the meal, but today they were burnt, overly hard, and tasted old like they had been sitting for a while before being served. The eggs were extremely dry and overcooked to the point where they were hard to enjoy. The sausage was the biggest disappointment though. It was so hard and tough that it honestly felt like biting into a hockey puck or a hard disc instead of breakfast sausage. What makes this frustrating is that I keep coming back because the food is usually fresh, flavorful, and worth spending money on. Consistency matters, especially for loyal customers who order regularly. I'm leaving this review because I'd rather see the quality get back to where it normally is instead of just staying quiet and going somewhere else. I know the kitchen can do better because I've had plenty of great meals from here before. Hopefully this was just a bad day and not the start of the food quality going downhill. This breakfast spot is pretty good! I'd been hearing about it for a few months and wanted to try. So, one morning my boyfriend and I called in an order. The restaurant itself is pretty much pickup or delivery only. So, we just ordered some pickup. I ordered the potatoes, cheese eggs and turkey sausage, which also came with toast. This was pretty good too. Their prices were actually really affordable. That's why I ended up ordering more food lol. I also ordered their turkey sausage gravy and biscuits and was incredibly surprised at how good this was! The biscuits were super flaky and the gravy and turkey sausage tasted amazing. I am currently busy at work and I order this food for breakfast. I really needed to tell you how disappointed I am. The food was so greasy on the outside and inside of the box. My tater tots were definitely cooked in old ass grease that's cooked with other fried meats. The greasy was so old. Omg. The grits taste like they were made yesterday and reheated. This is real simple breakfast food and it was all nasty. We added cheese to our food and neither one of us got any. I'm so upset I just wasted my money. I am trying to save yall from wasting money. -0/10 for sure. My food and my boyfriend's food both were bad. I had an early morning appointment and really wanted a breakfast sandwich with a salmon patty and I noticed this spot off of Graham and called to place my order. Their menu has salmon patty and salmon croquette and I was told the salmon patty was a homemade and the other was not so I ordered a salmon patty sandwich with egg on toast. Here I thought I found a decent grille that I could escape the hum drum of fast food. The first time I went, it was decent....nothing to write home about but decent. Today I thought I would go back and try something different. I got the perch dinner which included 2 sides and hush puppies. I ordered slaw and fried okra. I waited about 20 minutes only to get re-fried okra and no hushpuppies in the order. I took the food back and showed her how they mixed freshly fried okra with refried okra and the order was missing hushpuppies. Pretty good food! I love places that serve lunch for breakfast. I work the overnight schedule, so by the time I am off, my breakfast is long gone. I ordered a catfish sandwich and three jumbo wings with fries (greedy I know). The catfish sandwich was very seasoned and crispy, but I do wish the catfish was meatier and there was more tartar sauce on the sandwich. I added hot sauce to it for some more sauce. The chicken wings were definitely jumbo honey. What makes a good fried wing to me is size, seasoning, and crispiness. This wing definitely had all three. The wings were served with crinkled fries and a roll. I would definitely order this again! The sassy, playfully friendly staff at the front & even back of kitchen definitely have to be assertive more times than often due to the ongoings via outside occasionally. The menu has generally stayed the same as far as bargained, bang for you buck, fresh flavorful food. The prices are always reasonable for the quality and quantity one receives. I for one, am a huge fan of their everlastingly refreshing grape lemonade and savory salmon patty biscuit. The salmon biscuit is always toasty, warm, and buttery. The buttery moistness permeating the toasty top provides a fluffy, flavorful subtly salty punch. I'm always eternally grateful for the slightly greased sheet paper they tuck over the buttery big biscuit. Moreover, the fluffy egg I occasionally guiltily get is always fluffy and complementary to this south coast delicious delicacy. On the contrary though, I often reminisce gloomily on the beginning days of the homemade massively, melt in your mouth, moist, marvelous two chewy chocolate chip $1 cookies they would bake fresh about 10 yrs+ back in the day. They're usually very busy during lunch hours. Due to the current events of cororna, they've naturally limited the sit in experience. One is lucky to casually utilize the provided bar stool seats these days to catch more than a glimpse of entertainment via window onto the gloriously, busy Graham Street & the passerby patrons or locals while munching on a good wholesome fresh fulfilling meal. Generally, their prompt & attentive with orders as well as friendly overall. Fresh to order food is always a blessing and the convenience of the prompt service rivals our local, average fast food joint; which for the record isn't really close in these here parts of "Norf Charlotte" as us original residents proudly state in the slang named neighborhood "Udville" which is arguably a Northern Western region based neighborhood. Secondly, if you have a heart on a good day try to bless what we call "Unc's" & "Aunties" that Graham Street have to shy away from time to time due to the occasional panhandling based ongoings of local homeless. Depending on plethora preferences the meal Selections vary via menu. Some patrons in the past have complained about the quality, and homeless, staff; I've personally never had a issue in any regards to Graham Street Grill. Furthermore, the original management; Which I believe is the lady owner, always had a welcoming heart, pure aura. I've noticed over the years how she's managed to employ locals via staff. Also heard rumors of the food truck pull ups to local warehouses on Graham street as well; Graham Street Grill has provided a pillar permeated in the community which is commendable. Chose this place due to proximity of where I needed to be early in the morning. There is a small bar with about 5-7 chairs if you wanted to eat at the establishment. The menu is posted on the wall behind the counter. I ordered the turkey sausage burrito with peppers and onions. It was fantastic! The veggies were perfectly sautéed and not mushy. Perfect blend (not too many onions). I LOVE Graham Street Grill!! I live literally around the corner and I make sure to get breakfast from them on my days off. The prices are cheap, but the food is cooked fresh to order. Where else can you get a meat, 1 egg, home fries AND toast for $3.25?!?!? The only thing that I hate is that they're closed on weekends I don't get a chance to eat their lunch food that often, but when I do I have no complaints.
