First time there. My wife hated her food. Yes it was bad i tasted it. She got the hamburger steak with pintos and squash. Looked like quarter inch thick patties that had been previously frozen. Fixed early that morning and reheated when we got there at about 2:00pm. Very tough you could barely cut with a fork. The pinto's ....some soft some hard like they were running low and had to expand the supply to make it until they closed a 3pm. There potty mouthed customer sitting behind us did not help the atmosphere. The staff seemed to support it. $31.63 for two specials and one coke .... the food doesn't match the price! read more

Came here for breakfast, the food was excellent! The service here was also exceptional. I'm like other reviewers though, and feel that the place could be a bit updated. I took off a star because there is a slight musty, carpet smell. Started to leave, but glad I didn't. The food more than made up for it! The fried porkshops were excellent and so were the biscuits. We were sat quickly, place was quiet. Unfortunately there was no server or notification of a server for 16 minutes to make our drink order. When a server finally came, he was respectful, officiant and very thorough in his order taking. Although all the problems...whenever we did come it was good, so all in all know if you bypass all the issues from the beginning I guess you can say it's worth it. As you can see from the photos it wasn't very busy so maybe I'll give it another try. And the price was reasonable. read more

Simple no frills, cheap and tasty food establishment that serves breakfast all day. I don't know her name, but always the same waitress when I go in and she is just the sweetest. She always remembers me and my dad and if I go without him she always asks abt him. She is an amazing waitress, take one sip of your drink and best believe she's coming to refill that one sip hahaha, never misses a beat. Food is always amazing as well. read more

Angelo, I only got 2 sides as you can see .There was no extra side in separate container as you apparently were told. Ask the owner how many times I have ordered in the last 3 years did I ever get an extra side. He will remember me I am sure , so try again as you have been lied to. Food is normally 9 out of 10 the service is always 10 out of 10 and this is one of the regular spots that we go to and the price is very affordable I'm never disappointed. The place could use some upgrades as well as the restrooms, but that can be ignored because the food makes up for it. read more

Past by this place a few times but being that I am a breakfast lover I had to try it out. Did not disappoint! It's quiet, clean and doesn't seem to be over packed. Ordered the French toast special with scrambled eggs, bacon, and home fries. My friend ordered a custom omelette with grits and chocolate chip pancakes. Pancakes are a great size to just be only 2, and the bacon is hands down at the top of my list for best bacon in Charlotte. I'm from a small country town so this meal felt so much like home. We will for sure be back to try out their lunch menu read more

So, having been a frequent visitor at the other Tryon House, close to Southend, on Exmore, and not knowing they had another location I was happy to see one closer to my new home. We stopped in for an early morning breakfast around 10:30, I guess not so early for some, but missed the early risers and the after church crowd. I ordered the breakfast combo, not sure if that is the name, but it came with eggs, meat, potatoes and your choice of bread. I went with scrambled eggs, sausage links, hash browns, and upgraded my bread with a toasted bagel. Everything was on point as far as food, but service was slow. The servers were so sweet, but our waters and coffee weren't refilled and the coffee was luke warm, and I love HOT coffee. Overall, definitely happy I have a Tryon House close to me as I love their breakfast feasts..and look forward to checking out their other menu items to see if the compare to the Exmore location. read more

A very surprising find. Looks to be a family operation. Our waitress Lacy, was awesome, busy and moving fast. The check was 1970's green pad with illegible writing but she was great. Fairly priced, nice portion size. The wife had grits, regular not Al dente, I had the country breakfast which was two sausage patties (processed but really good) a biscuit (not so big) and two eggs smothered in gravy and I do mean smothered. Nothing fancy but a good meal at a good price with great service. read more

This is legit one of the oldest restaurants in Charlotte. They only open from 6am-2pm, it's not fancy at all but man is the breakfast amazing after a long night out! Some of the best biscuits I've had in a while! Love going here with my friends to refuel after hanging out way too late in our old age . Definitely a hole in the wall, but I'd go here any day. I found this place on Yelp when I was looking for a different breakfast spot to hit and I must say I was impressed. Once I was seated and placed my order my meal came out within minutes. I never expected that with the amount of people that were in the restaurant, I only visited this restaurant once so far I will keep u posted on my next visit if this is the norm. Ordered a basic breakfast which came out wrong (eggs cooked rock hard). No problem. They corrected the order with two minutes. (Note: Can no one in Charlotte cook eggs properly anymore?). That aside, I was greeted promptly and my waitress was kind and efficient without calling me babe or honey--I like that. The Tryon House has fallen into a slumber that's all too common. Instead of focusing on fresh, awesome dishes that patrons rave about, they go for the quick, cheap and easy. They could still offer the basics, but there's nothing signature here. A real ole fashioned 1960's or 1970's 100% Southern roadside diner in NE Charlotte! A throwback to the Good Ole Days! A real gem in the grubby area of North Tryon, not far from The Weave. An old hangout of mine during my days at UNCC! Very good, down home comfort food, at decent prices, big portions, and fast, friendly and good service! The fried chicken platter is to die for! Big heavenly and juicy pieces of chicken, and REAL mashed potatoes! Good desserts too, at decent prices! If I'm ever in Charlotte again in my life, I'll have to try the south Charlotte location! This was a very pleasant corner of the area. Walking in, you know the locals eat here. A very quiet and quaint diner, and the breakfast is a must! I had the combo special and the home fries are awesome. My waitress was so kind and very friendly, but not weird over friendly. It also wasn't overly greasy like Waffle House. read more

Went here on a whim. Decent breakfast, nothing spectacular to report. I give 3 stars because my omelette wasn't the best, but the coffee/liver mush/toast/grits were. Pete has quite the establishment going here. Do not overlook this place. I promise you everything is here is amazing. Perfectly situated right in the middle of NoDa and University. It's a quick trip and you will leave absolutely full. I always go off the breakfast menu but the lunch menu has a whole lot of gems and the specials are at a great price. You'll eat plenty of food don't worry! Service is 5 star and the wait staff make it very personable with you. A few trips in and you will be remembered! Nothing like it in the heart of Charlotte. Do not go here. The older gentleman who runs the register, May the owner I'm not sure is awful. Worst customer I have experienced. After I waited for 15 minutes for my take out, I asked where it was and he decided to scream at me and tell me I had to wait like everyone else when I watched him take care of 6 people that arrived after me. He is awful and The food isn't worth dealing with rude people. Again do not go here. read more

Not the worst meal I've ever had, but fairly close. The HB steak was rubbery, and my mom's chicken tenders were anything but tender. Ordered friend squash, and they gave us zucchini fried?? The tomatoes and okra tasted strange..looked strange too. Did not think it was possible to mess that up! The fries tasted like they had been fried with fish. Even my mom coke was too sweet and didn't taste right. 2 stars because the waitress was nice enough. I won't go back! read more

Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the rest of the experience. We started with the roasted oysters, which came so heavily breaded that the actual oyster flavor got completely lost underneath. In hindsight, I should've just ordered them raw. The Eggs Inferno was next, and it fell flat across the board -- it needed salt, it needed acid, it needed some kind of richness to bring it to life. I wouldn't order it again. My friend's seasonal focaccia toast was equally underwhelming and forgettable. But then -- the fingerling potatoes. Honestly, I wish we'd just ordered three plates of those and called it a meal. Fluffy on the inside, perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with flavor in every single bite. Hands down the highlight of brunch, and genuinely one of the best sides I've had in a while. What they offer is a twist on the original tiramisu, and while it is good, it's no substitute for a beautiful slice of the real thing. I was a bit off, put by the pricing. In this economy, you're wanting to make sure you get your moneys worth. I clearly see that while they charge a premium, they only have the best ingredients and their food is crafted. It was a Thursday night, it was quite busy, but it did seem to take quite some time for all of our food to arrive. For us to enjoy antipasto, our pasta, and desserts, it took two full hours. When you're celebrating a birthday, you may not mind a two hour dinner, but it seems a bit long if you're not celebrating a special occasion.
