Gramercy Dental is on 19th st close to 14st Union Square Station (approximately 5min walk). You have to buzz in at the door. From making appointment to leave the dental office, everything was easy without any delay. Once I made an appointment on the phone, I received a text to follow the link and filled out forms online. It made the check in process way easier and shorter. Secretaries are very friendly and helpful. My dental hygienist is very fun and pleasant. She is happy to be work and has great energy. She did X-rays, a thorough cleaning and made sure I was comfortable during the process. The dentist is professional and makes sure I'm doing all my routine flossing and cleaning. Since the practice changed ownership snd staff, it is beyond awful. The office is being renovated so its dusty, dirty and looks like a construction site. They are duplicitous about the fees and accepting dental plan reimbursements. The office staff is ok but the practice manager is very off putting. Suffice to say , do not recommend them at all. Sad after all these years, I will not be returning. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I got 3 fillings here - then a couple months later they said that I had another 5 cavities that needed fillings. Given how short the timeframe was I thought it was odd (and they were being kind of aggressive about scheduling it) so I went to another dentist for a second opinion and they said there's absolutely no cavities and no fillings needed! They will try to push unnecessary procedures on you and will even LIE. Truly shocking the lack of ethics. I raised this with them and they were defensive and said they could send me the X-rays. Overall a pretty solid dentist - went in for a cleaning appointment and my dental hygienist was absolutely amazing. I have a pretty strong gag reflex which has always been a challenge whenever I go to the dentist. The staff there treated me with respect and were very careful as to not trigger it. My teeth felt super clean afterwards Only reason why I am not rating 5 stars is because the dentist who came in to check up at the end of my appointment seemed a bit cold and distant. I can't believe I'm writing a five star review of my dentist, but here goes: I don't like going to the dentist. In fact I dislike it so much that I didn't bother to go for over a decade. I was young and not prone to cavities, so what did it matter? My wife had some issues with less-than-great dentists over the years before she found Dr Laurie, who proceeded to get her teeth in the right again. She was so pleased with her work that she insisted I pay her a visit. I've been going semi-regularly for the last 5 years or so. In that time she's managed to reverse my receding gums, fill a few cavities and fix a chipped tooth. I won't say going to the dentist is now a pleasant experience for me, but Dr Laurie makes it as bearable as possible. Not only is she very skilled, but her manner is exceptional. I actually like seeing her, and this is a woman who puts needles and drills in my mouth. read more

After putting it off for as long as I could I finally relented and made an appointment with Dr. Estrada. All I can say is that they treat you right here, and everyone is very friendly. The dental care was fine. The administrative side was lacking in attention to detail. The office verified my insurance plan when it changed and told me they accepted it. Then 6 months after providing services they told me they don't actually take my insurance because they didn't see HMO written after my plan. It seems strange to love your dentist but I do. As a physician, I tend to be a bit trepidatious about going to another medical professional. All I can say is that Dr. Litwin exceeded my expectations. She is professional, meticulous, detailed, and honest. She also has a great manner with her patients and seems to remember what is going on outside of the dentist chair. I had a negative experience with a dentist on the Upper West Side (they actually cracked my adjoining tooth during a procedure- and I subsequently had to get a root canal)- and I am pleased to say I made the right decision coming to her. The office staff is super helpful and will go the extra mile to work out the right billing for your insurance. You don't wait and they were always willing to squeeze me in as needed. My mom recommened Dr. Litwin's office to me and I have to say I really like this place. Matt at the front desk is reall friendly and explains everything to you payment wise which i liked because I was able to really understand what I was being charged for. Dr. Estrada (the dental hygenist) is very kind and gentle while working on your cleaning which is nice becasue you don't end up with sore gumbs. I deal primarily with Dr. Coe who is really imformative and gentle. I would reccomend Dr. Litwin's office to any and everyone but please be prepared to pay becasue they are on the expensive side of things. Okay, so this is an odd review for me, as I generally reserve even thinking about writing a review for something that I hoped would be good - restaurant, massage, shopping experience - but turned out better or worse than expected. In this case - the dentist is a dreaded, horror experience for me. I would never think about a review, because, well I don't expect anything great, even think I'll be tortured. So, it takes a lot for me to write a dental review. And I'm adding these key words to this review "afraid of the dentist" incase any one searches for reviews for great dentists for people terrified of the dentist. I put off going as along as I can because I had a torturous 6 years of braces when I was a child and it left me scarred for life. My orthodontist was satan with pick, probe and mirror. So, when I chipped a tooth (minor) a few weeks ago I figured it was time to go just so it didn't get any worse (yes I'm vain). I mustered all the courage I could and made the call. The receptionist answered and I said I had 2 questions. 1 - do you except my insurance. 2 - okay now that you except my insurance, are you a good dentist for people who hate dentists. Answers were both yes and before I knew it today was upon me. The length of my experience today was filled in a cold sweat, but that was just my nerves. Everyone was fantastic. They completely understood my concerns, were sympathetic and talked me through everything they were doing. The worst news I received was that I need to wear a guard when I sleep because I grind my teeth which is why I chipped a tooth. That news was much better than what I expected, because I was sure I was going to need to have every tooth pulled followed by a root canal in each socket. So, I highly, highly recommend this dentist. They even humored me with my defense mechanism of joke-laded banter throughout my entire appointment. read more

I cant tell you the last time a dentist called me after a proceedure to see how I'm doing the next day! Dr. Litwin's staff is caring and compassionate, and Dr Litwin herself has been through enough personal dental experiences to understand what hurts, and how painful it could be for the patient. She walks you through what you need to have done, manages expectations for the experience while its being done, and is very careful for you not to have pain. I have yet to be hurt in her chair. Her staff is organized, caring and will crack a smile with you. I actually really like going there (this coming from someone who used to need gas for a cleaning!) and her referring doctors are amazing. She is connected to wonderful surgeons and specialists that all provide the same experrience. Everyone there feels like a "private pay" client. As many people have already said, I hate going to the dentist! I had a giant cavity for almost 2 years on my back molar and refused to get it fixed cause I wanted to steer clear of needles and drilling. Dr. Laurie Litwin and her staff made me 100% comfortable. Everyone from Matt at the front desk to Vanessa the hygenist, to Dr. Litwin herself were absolutely wonderful. They joked around with me and assured me I would feel little to no pain during the entire procedure. I am a patient of Dr. Litwin's and it has been a wonderful experience for me. I suffer from atypical facial neuralgia (something I was diagnosed with before I met Dr. Litwin). Dr. Litwin and her staff are very knowlegeable about my condition and always take their time to treat me so it wouldn't be a unpleasant experience. I also suffer from a bad case of TMJ and Dr. Litwin is the ONLY dentist I would allow to work on me. She takes time to understand the needs of her patients and works with you to get through whatever you need done. She had a mouth guard made for me to help alleviate my TMJ pain and it has worked wonders! I travel a distance to see her and it is worth every minute and dime spent. I have been seeing Dr. Litwin and Dr. Estrada for a few years now. I have to say my teeth are now in the best shape they've ever been - I just finished my invisalign program with them and am thrilled with the results! Really great work. And it is always a pleasure going to see them. They are just a good mix of friendly and professional. They get to know you a bit, they are really nice and genuinely care about their patients. I went to Dr Litwin this past April. Needed periodontic work and implants. Major surgery and very expensive. Dr. Litwin handed me a list of what was to be done and how much everything costs. The following visit was 24 hrs later with her associate, Dr Batalias, periodontist. Dr. was not there, because she was on vacation. So I'm sitting in the dentist chair with someone I have never met, my primary Dentist is away, and I'm supposed to feel good about this situation???!!!. I'm told I need to have extraction done very soon. I explained I am out of town on business for 5 days. They scheduled me for this proceedure on 5/4/11. I went to a different Periodontist for a second opinion. This dentist,, Dr. Charles Kaner, wrote the book on many implant and periodontic proceedures. I was immediately impressed with his knowledge and manner. He wanted and did perform the surgery on me that evening!! I had to race to Dr. Litwin's office pay for the temporary piece($600.00). I informed them I was using Dr. Kaner. To my amazement, Dr. Litwin DEDUCTS THE ENTIRE AMOUNT OF MY CARECREDIT ACCOUNT ($17,190.00) BEFORE A STITCH OF WORK WAS PERFORMED ON ME!! Where the hell does someone get to do this stunt!!?? NO work was performed!!. Yet Dr. Litwin took all of my credit. Obviously her office is in dire staights with cash flow, or she is just a money grubbing witch. The following day I had to take a cab and sign a letter of release for the credit line. Dr. Litwin approached me and started to confront me on why I left for someone else. IT's MY mouth and MY teeth, I wanted the best to work on them and she is NOT THE BEST. To add insult to injury, she deducts 225.00 for cancellation charges. What a crock of sh--!! I reported this incident to Care Credit, they agreed with me and refunded my 225.00! They also agreed that money should only be taken from a patient on work that is being done!! Not in anticipation of future work!! What monumental Gall this woman has. So Dr. Litwin, as you so forcefully said to me, "I was not a good salesman as the dentist I finally used". My response was: It's not about salesmanship it's about dentistry. I've been meaning to write this review for the past couple of years. I can't say how thrilled I am to have found a dentist group that is so great. I have had such bad luck over the years locating a great dentist , whenever my insurance changed I was back searching all over again. (and had gone to some rather dirty odd offices uptown midtown)...I finally found Dr Litwin (I'm on freelancers union insurance) and she was amazing. She was friendly and explained all my options in regards to work I had to have done. She did not try to sell me anything or urge me to get any unnecessary work done. I've now been to all the dentists there (periodontist is in the group). They are all equally nice, friendly and really, really take care of babies like me with low tolerance to pain. The office is clean sunny modern right near gramercy park and easy to get to from union square subway. There is never any waiting when you have an appointment. Well organized office. The Office Mgr Matt is a genius in handling tricky insurance policies. I highly recommend Dr Litwin, Dr Estrada (she cleans my teeth, is really thorough and gentle) Dr. Batalias for anyone that wants great dental work. It's not cheap, but worth it. I've wasted enough money going to cheap-cut rate dentists in the past only to have work redone. So, if you are looking for honest, great dental work - I would say give Dr. Litwin's office a try.! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Litwin's for at least 12 years. I have followed her from office to office, until she opened her own lovely practice on Gramercy. I love Dr. Litwin because she is professional and cares very much about her patients' comfort. She will never let anyone suffer, even for a second, and asks repeatedly after my comfort during each visit or procedure. She explains everything she does in such a way that I always know exactly what she is going to do, what she is doing, and why she is doing it. Being her patient makes it... almost fun to go to the dentist's. When you add to all that the fact that she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet... what more could you ask? The other doctors and the rest of the staff are all very friendly and share Dr. Litwin's philosophy. She has created such a warm atmosphere in her office, surrounding herself with kindred spirits. My first visit to Dr. Litwin about 15 years ago ended up saving me from having an unnecessary root canal. Two other dentists had listened to my pain symptoms, looked at one tiny x-ray, and declared that a root canal was in order. Dr. Litwin looked at the same x-ray, told me that there was not enough info in it to make that determination, and proceeded to do her own x-rays from many angles and a thorough exam. At the end of the exam, she said that in all honesty she could not determine the cause of the pain, but that I definitely did not need a root canal. She told me to wait a few weeks and, if the pain persisted, to return. I did return--not because of the pain, though, which was related to an undiagnosed sinus condition--but because I was so impressed with Dr. Litwin's integrity and the quality of her work. She has been my one and only dentist ever since. I have recommended her to coworkers and friends, who have also become converts. I have never had a root canal, but if I did need one, Dr. Litwin would be my first call. read more

9 months ago, I went to Dr. Litwin for a cracked crown. During the initial consultation, she informed me that I've been ruining my dental work over the year by grinding my teeth at night. She suggested various procedures including a night guard costing $4222 in total, and I figured I should "do it right" by following through. She offered a 10% off incentive if I paid in full, and I'm responsible for tracking down the reimbursement from my insurance. Anyway, I had to visit her office a dozen of times to work on the crown because the temporary crown kept cracking (at one point I was only eating steamed brussels spouts when one of the temporary crown cracked) and the permanent crown wasn't properly made. She blamed the Lab for the mistake. After several impressions and fittings over a few visits, the crown STILL doesn't fit well. There is a step between it and the surrounding molar. On top of it all, that area is now sensitive to cold and heat. That broke the camels back, and decided not to go back. Dr. Litwin and staff are nice people, and they did their best to treat me. However, the many visits to her office for one crown were the most frustrating dental experience in my life. read more
