My personal ritual is to start with a flight of 4 oz pours, which lets me sample several beers and enjoy the experience of discovering my favorite for that visit before settling in with a full glass. Happy Jack, their cream ale, is a always in my flight along with the Quad, my favorite beer of all time. The rotating seasonals keep every visit feeling fresh. What I find remarkable is that I never experience the after effects I get from commercial store bought beer. The food program is genuinely special -- house smoked BBQ, loaded baked potatoes, soft pretzels, noodle bowls, loaded mac and cheese, and green chili, with vegetarian options too. The setting -- a vintage historic warehouse in the heart of Phoenix's lower Grand Avenue arts district -- gives it a soul that's hard to find anywhere else. If you can make it on a First Friday, the live music takes the whole experience up another notch. Add in a dog-friendly patio and retail beer to go, and there's truly nothing missing. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, and the owner is always on premises and never too busy to share a great conversation. This is a cute little brewery off of the grand ave entertainment area. We stopped in for dinner and the food was delicious. We ordered the loaded mac and cheese and it was good. They have a large selection of beers to choose from with some made in house and some from other local breweries. We weren't that big a fan of the beers but some friends we went with loved them. The only downside was when we went it was 100 degrees out and they had the doors open with only an evap cooler running. It got uncomfortably hot and we didn't spend as long as we wanted there because of that. read more

It's been a minute, like a whole pandemic since the last visit. They have improved a lot! On my first visit I experienced 1 or 2 that were good, the others had promise and I was hopeful. Amazing time at this local spot before a baseball game (a group of us were in town for the brewers series) and shout out to Matt for letting us in early Saturday afternoon. We had some flights, some sake, some port and the soup of the day - the Moscow mule. All the drinks were pretty tasty. The food we all tried were delicious - the taco flights (pork belly looked dry but was so tender and delish, the Korean pulled pork was the hands down favorite and the steak was pretty good). Several people had the Mac and cheese and had no complaints. The rest of the menu looked awesome and the space was really cool with local artwork and some board games. We came in over the weekend and this was our first stop of the day. I chose a sour and he chose an IPA. We were hungry and they had some pretty tasty options. As soon as we entered you could smell the aroma of bbq. We were served quickly by the bartender, which happened to be the owner. Food selection has many options: including various smoked/baked potatoes with pork chilies red/green, tacos, sandwiches, burgers, and flatbreads. We were in town for Arizona Craft Beer Week and we met the owner and brewer at the Strong Beer Festival the day before. They convinced us to stop by the brewery to check out the rest of the beers and the amazing food. A beautiful location in downtown Phoenix with a nice outdoor area and a large open area inside with plenty of seating. We ordered up a few flights of beers so that we could try a bunch of different styles. We also ordered the pretzel, pulled pork sandwich and the chili verde. There were some hits and misses with the beer but the food was amazing! They smoke all the meat in house and it was delicious. We will definitely return on our next trip to Phoenix. read more

I ended up having a great late afternoon and evening here. This place is pretty unsuspecting from the street but once you get in, you're in for some fun. I have their own parking lot so feel free to pull into the gate. They have a big selection of beer. I'm not a huge beer fan but I was there with friends and I enjoyed what I could. I had the cream ale and another one I cannot remember. But I was there with friends and just enjoying the company. We had a good time just sitting around. It's a great atmosphere with some games at some tables and just an overall good crowd. Really nice employees to! Enjoyed the food very much so. I had the Manny which is only available on Sundays. It's basically two eggs over some pork and chilis and it was overall delicious. They forgot the cotija cheese but when I went to go ask for some, they brought me out of big container. Very nice! I also had one of their smoky baked potatoes. They come with many options of different toppings. I just had the cheap one but it was more than filling. It was practically swimming in butter and with the cheese and sour cream, it was too much for me to even finish. Friends had some other stuff including the cheese crisp and the smokey potato salad. Wow, from the moment you walk in and smell the smoker you know this is going to be good. The bartender was wonderful and recommended the smoked Baked Potato with 1/4 Pig(aka bacon) OMG delicious. The game sold out and I could not get a reservation. So plans changed and who doesn't love a good brewery. Atmosphere - An old service station/garage turned brewery. More common than you would think. Big garage doors, clearly new, open up the front so you can people watch as you are enjoying your beer. Food Drink - I had two of their beers I love my IPA's and they actually had one with a hop I had never heard of, so I had to try that one. The beer name was Single Hop Zappa, can you guess the name. This was my favorite of the two beers. The second beer was an America Pale Ale, called Hay Ride Pale. A clean crist beer. Dinner - The food stole the show tonight. I was not expecting two amazing dished. The place uses a lot of smoke for their food. You can smell it when you walk in. The first item we picked was the GrandChilada, aka enchilada, it was basically a rolled burrito as it was dry. They had plenty of salsa on the side for it, a best part was the fried egg on top. So ooey and gooey yolk. The smoked pork was little larger than I would like, but it was smoked perfectly and fell apart with the touch of the fork. I think a smoked refried beans would have made an excellent side. My wife and I also split the Buster Burger, and a messy burger at that. It came with a side of smoked potato salad. Amazing!! For a small menu they nailed those two items!! Service - What you need from the bar. You order your food and drinks there. They hand you your drinks. A number for the table, and after a bit of enjoying conversation and beer, the food arrives. Future - Yes please. I could see coming here before a baseball game again. I wanted to like this place. But the vibes, atmosphere, beer & food are mediocre at best. Everything either needed salt, moisture or more flavor. The atmosphere was dingy & the vibes from the staff felt as if we were imposing on them. The beer was kinda warm. Basic flavor profiles. The mac & cheese was an abomination, you could get better flavor from Kraft boxed mac. It was dry & flavorless, even with green chilies. The only redeeming quality was the smoked baked potato. Which still lacked salt but at least had some discernible flavor. The pretzel was stale & the cheese was bland. I did knock some of the salt off & into my potato to amp up the flavor. We won't be back. We live in the neighborhood but would rather go elsewhere to spend our time & money. Dare I say, hidden gem! Love the vibe: live music (Camello Road) was solid, home brew was spectacular, and the food (not a lot of vegetarian options) was extremely good , especially for a brewery. The neighborhood is very cool and has become a hot bed of restaurants! Besides GAB there is Bacanora, Earth, Testal, and so many more. Definitely recommend checking out this neighborhood bar. They are good people and offer a great place to hangout, drink good beer, listen to good music and support a local business! My friend indulged in the Buster Burger: 1/3 lb burger on a brioche bun, cheese, balsamic caramelized onions and chili pepper aoli with a side of smoked potato salad with sour cream, bacon, and dill. ​John was tending bar and he really knows his beers and helped me choose my flight​--usually I'm disappointed by some, but every one, especially the darks, were delicious. I love this place with ALL my heart. Their brews are great. My favorites include the Beeline Honey Wheat and the Salty Señora (speaking of which, Salty Señora could be an EPIC base for a michelada... just saying). Also, if sours are your thing, Grand Ave Brewing will be your new favorite spot too. They also sell growlers in case you'd like to enjoy their brews from the comfort of your home! Now for the food. Oh my god, I can't say enough. First - don't leave here without ordering a pretzel. They're made using dough from a local bakery, not that frozen bulk stuff that other places use. Their pretzel is so perfectly buttery, salty, and soft. Hands down my favorite pretzel in AZ. It's usually served with warm beer cheese and mustard, but I ordered one last week and they're trying out a pimento cheese and stone ground mustard instead! Second - if you're hungry, like... REALLY hungry, order a (stuffed) baked potato. They taste unlike any other baked potato I've ever tried. All the baked potatoes are smoked, which give them a unique and extra savory flavor. They have several variations - ranging from your classic butter/sour cream/chive version, to stuffed versions with german sausage, or green chili pork, you name it. On Sunday, they do a special smoked baked potato known as The Benediction. I'd give 100000 stars for this one if I could. They also have a massive patio in the back with adirondack chairs, picnic tables, and fire pits. Would be a great setting for large groups when it's cool outside! My son lives in Phoenix and whenever I come out we try to hit a different brewery. Grand Avenue was a cut above, which is saying a lot for a great beer brewing town. We came in after a spring training game mid-week. It wasn't too busy and we sat at the bar with some newbies and regulars. They have an incredible selection of beers and a menu that would satisfy your palette. The ambience is very relaxed and welcoming without the usual "Hey look at me, I'm trying to be cool" Our bartender January was really sweet and gave us time to check the menu out and made sure she got our order when we were ready.
