I love Azteca. It's not the best Mexican I've ever eaten, but it's great for the price and the service is awesome. The waiters are extremely polite and are constantly refilling your drinks and asking if you want more chips, and the food always comes out really fast. The food is pretty tasty (I recommend the enchiladas verdes) and when I've brought guests with me, they've loved it as well! If only I could resist the urge to eat a metric crapton of chips and salsa whenever I went, I would go all the time. read more

I've been to this location three times now. It's not quite as good as going to Mexicantown or others in the D, but in a pinch it'll do. The chips and salsa are tasty, the fajitas are about average and what you'd expect. The servers here are friendly, albeit a bit on the slow side with refills at times. My favorite Mexican restaurant around. The servers are very friendly and always call us amigos and amigas and i like that. The authentic mexican music and artwork on the table tops adds to the experience also. My favorite dish is the chicken enchiladas. They stuff so much chicken into an enchilada that costs 2.50, it would cost me more to make it at home. My 8 year old daughter who is very picky about her chicken smashes 2 of them everytime. On tuesdays they have tacos on sale for 1.39 which is cheaper than taco bell. The margaritas had my girlfriend falling out of the booth after drinking half of it. The value here is just incredible, and the flavor and service is even better. Ive been to two other aztecas in the area and they are no match for the madison heights location. read more

Place is average at best. Chips and salsa seemed store bought. Had a lunch special, so I can't really review portion size, but it seemed about right. I ordered a beef chimichanga. Food was brought out in decent time, and the chimi itself was pretty good but small. Service was a bit pushy. Overall, I would say this place is average, nothing poor, but nothing great. So I frequently go to the one in Roseville slash Frazier. The glasses above the bar are disgustingly dirty and the bar picture has softcore porn art which I like as a non family person. Haha. But the food stays ridiculously good despite always having a seventy five dollar bill. The margaritas are the best. It's insanely busy on a Friday night. Luis is the best server ever. I can't stop going, it's like an addiction. Wish they were able to serve items on their menu as vegetarian though, because even when they accommodate me it's clear they just charge me full price and just don't add meat instead of actually adding extra veggies and beans and rice to make a vegetarian happy. Actually, speaking of which, can you modify the menu to offer me the regular menu items as a vegetarian!? The vegetarian menu is crap and mostly tortilla with beans and cheese, super flat and uninspiring. So instead I have to order the California burrito and ask/pay for peppers and onions which shouldn't actually cost me more. And whn I had the taco bowl it was really disappointing because they removed the meat but charged me the same for something without extra lettuce, tomatoes, beans or anything. Just half a taco salad in a bowl. All bowl but nothing in it. While it tasted good it was supremely disappointing. My vegetarian lifestyle should be expected, there are five hundred thousand of us in the world. Please make things on the regular menu more accommodating as I do love your restaurant. read more

I have heard mixed reviews about this place and finally decided to decide for myself. With coupon in hand we hit the door and were seated immediately. Sadly growing anxiety caused by the marauding mariachi band began destroying our positive vibe. The band was far too loud for the confined area. Upon request - they graciously moved on. I've been to this restaurant a lot. I was going once a week at one point. If you're looking for an elegant, authentic experience, look elsewhere. If you're looking for some pretty good tex-mex at good prices, this is the place. The service has always been great. Sometimes they seem to bring the food before I order, they are so fast. No, none of the wait staff have great English skills, But unless you are the fussy sort of person who likes to make a lot of substitutions or asks to leave this that or the other off the order, it's not a problem. Their strengths are their entrees and the fajitas. The Chori-pollo is very good, as are the chile colorado and the molcajete. The soft tacos are good but the hard ones are blah, as one might expect. The rest of the entrees are good for the most part, but I avoid the enchiladas, tamales, burritos and chimichangas As for the complaints about the margaritas, yes they have very little tequila flavor to them, but let's face it, most people don't really like tequila anyway, and margaritas are not exactly authentic Mexican fare are they? I'd appreciate it if they had some more good anjeo or reposado tequilas for sipping, but again, most of their clientele are not going to be sipping fine, aged tequilas. Anyway, for what it is, it's hard to get much better than Grand Azteca. read more

My wife and I went here last night before catching a movie. In every sense, it was the Yelp, 3-star "A-OK" restaurant. Nothing was bad, but nothing was really great. If it were a car, it would be a Toyota Corolla. The restaurant itself had a very casual, Mexican feel, but just felt a little run down. The server was polite, but made a few small mistakes. And the food arrived promptly (almost a little too fast), but it was OK. One of the times we went here, there was a quaint 3-man band playing music from table to table. That was cute. But the service is good and fast and the chips they give you before your meal are always hot and fresh. My husband likes their super hot green salsa. The fried ice cream is to die for! It's a converted Denny's so the ambience isn't terribly "Mexican," but that's OK. It always seems busy, including for lunch. Wow what a great place! Yes I was skeptical of this place at first but my significant other and I were craving some good Spanish food and didn't want to travel down to Mexican town where we usually go. Therefore shopping near the Oakland mall area we yelp grand azteca. There are some reviews that were unsatisfying but we like to experience it for ourselves. As we enter the parking lot it's full, no where to park on a mid-Sunday afternoon, therefore we had to park in the back, apparently where all the workers park because we noticed 3 of them smoking in the back. The menu is huge and I ordered the chicken and steak quesadilla and my significant other had the carnitas. My food was good but I really loved the carnitas! I ate most of his plate, lol. The portion was huge and the pork was so tender like it was slow cooked for hours! I love places that have great food and this place is one of them! You may get discouraged by the smokers in the back but this place is nice inside and our server was very nice as well. I forgot his name but he was very tall and had a beat accent. I would totally recommend the carnitas and they have a spectacular drink menu (non-alcoholic) included. read more

It's a Saturday evening and the guys are energetic and full of life, what better place to dine other than a Mexican Restaurant. I have heard a fair bit of the 'Grand Azteca' restaurant and convinced the guys to try it out. 'Hola! Muchachos!' was the first thing I noticed. If you hear that at 8 in the evening you should know that you're in the right place for the right thing. The moment we sat on our table our waiter brought us hearty amount of tortilla and salsa. This is like my primary check for any Mexican restaurant, if the Salsa and the tortilla are good the food is usually good too. And I stand correct, the food was amazing. I had ordered 'Ground beef Chimichongas with beans and guacamole', while my friend got 'Tortilla Guacamole platter'. The Chimichongas were crisp, hot, juicy and most importantly flavorful. The beans were creamy, mushy and seasoned just the way I like it. As for the tortilla and guacamole platter, I didn't get to quite taste it, but he looked satisfied, and the cheese sauce was creamy, smooth and warm. The crunch and the warm smoothness went so well. The serving size was in arguably value for money. And that complimented perfectly the fact that we are still students. The person that was serving us was firstly attentive, friendly and was definitely a Latin American. The only problem we had was communicating at times since the waiter did not speak fluent English. But he made up for it with warmth and a smile during service. The service was brisk and the entire experience had a hearty flow to it. The restaurant seems shady from the roadside, but once you enter it, it is bright, cheerful and noisy. Perfect for those Saturday evenings when u like to hang out with your pals. There was live Mexican music which was not noise and complemented the Dining experience. Since last Saturday, our Mexican food supply has definitely shifted to 'Grand Azteca'. And if we are back in the Detroit neighborhood I will most definitely be coming back. read more

This place does not even deserve one star. Came here to eat with my fiancé before heading to the movies. Sat for about 10 mins before being greeted by a server. Food came out pretty quickly. However, halfway through my meal, I discovered a little friend on my enchilada. A COCKROACH. A FRICKEN COCKROACH. I have not stopped puking since. I will never return. You're lucky the health department hasn't shut you down. Wanted to tell everyone else dining in the restaurant to stop eating. I've lost my appetite probably for the next year. read more

My experience deserves NO stars. After waiting 15mins to be seated a waiter arrives and acknowledges the couple behind me to seat them. Every waiter I seen would make eye contact with me then quickly divert their eyes elsewhere. 20mins in a waiter finally takes me but can't find an empty table. We were refused a both because it sits five. My friend and I were given a table that sat four. That there prompted me to ask my friend if she wanted to leave. Her reasoning for staying was that she was hungry, tired, and already here. We had never been to Azteca before but she had a taste for Mexican food. We're not even sure who our waiter is, three people have spoken to us so far to refuse us the booth. When we asked out original waiter he spoke to the others then darted off without giving us an answer. Chips and dip were thrown at us eventually, then we sat another 20mins waiting for someone to take our order. I figured let me make it as obvious as possible that we're ready by putting the menu at the end of the table, still no one came until sometime later, took our order and darted off. The wait for our food wasn't bad, I had a nacho Supremos, which I noticed was in a pool as he sat my platter down. Maybe it was the water from the lettuce I figured...... It was all GREASE mixed in with sour cream. By my second bite I got an instant headache. I tried to eat it since I'm not one to waste good but couldn't. I thought maybe it was just my mood. I asked my friend for a carryout container and my platter on soggy nachors slopped in there like chum. That's when I realized all that access liquid was grease and I couldn't. I didn't even wanna take it home because even then it would have been wasted. I wouldn't serve that shit to my dog. I guess the carryout tipped our waiter off that we were ready to go so I mentioned how I hadn't even ate half of it, could I get half off. He directed me to the manager. I went to the manager about my dissatisfaction and he responded to me, in my opinion, as if the complaint had an ulterior motive behind it rather than give great customer service. There was no apology what so ever and I was talked over and given different scenarios on why it was impossible I did not enjoy my meal. I had the money, the nachos were $10, but the food wasn't worth it. It was gross and bland, then the service was HORRIBLE, even from management. The only offer I was given was a 10% discount, without an apology. He turns to my friend who is witnessing all this and asked her how her dining experience was and she told him candidly. The back and forth with the manager raised her blood pressure because there was no getting thru to this guy. We had no issue paying, we have money, but I wasn't gonna pay full price for the nightmare I was served. My friend was actually gonna cover the bill herself til she seen how the manager went about resolving the issue I had. The carry-outs are only so big so of course it won't look the same as if it was on a platter. We both left with headaches, mine caused my the food and worsened by the confrontation with the manager, hers was caused by the manager raising her blood pressure. As soon as we got home she tried to get comfortable, but have to run to my bathroom and proceed to vomit out her ass. GROSS!!! Lucky for me I stopped consuming my food before I ended up in the same boat as her. My stomach feels sour, but nothing yet. I'll keep Yelp posted. Azteca, never again. read more

I love Mexican food. This place disappointed me. I went there on a first date. His food was fine, but there was a piece of plastic in mine. That disgusted me. I told the waitress, and she removed the plate, and didn't charge him for my meal. What turned me off is that no manager came over to apologize or anything.
