The frozen margarita was a white froth with little taste. Our server graciously offered a redo, with no improvement. The two bottle beers, different familiar brands, had a very weird taste. I HOPE it was just improper storage in the summer heat. Definitely would recommend they deliver them to the table unopened next time. Mexico City is a good overall restaurant. There will most likely be a wait for dine in during peak hours. The staff is sufficient, and the atmosphere is causal. There's little to complain about when it comes to the food. It's not the best Mexican out there, but it's better than average. Portion sizes are more than fair, as well. This is our go to Mexican restaurant for dine-in or carryout. The margaritas are big and strong and the food is always hot and fast. We like the Barbacoa taco's, beef Mexican pizza, and the fajitas. The only downside has been the pork tamales which were really dry. read more

I went to Mexico City restaurant with my boyfriend on a weeknight. The parking lot was busy, and it was fairly difficult to park. When we walked in, we were seated right away. It's decorated with bright Mexican colors. Once seated, They brought chips and salsa to our table and let us know which was hot and which was mild. We tried both and if I'm honest I felt like both of them were too spicy. The menu has several options. We ordered the queso dip as an appetizer. It came out quickly and was pretty good. Very creamy. For dinner both my boyfriend and I ordered the chicken fried quesadilla because it looked like it would be good. They were only ok. They really lacked salt, and my boyfriends were kind of burnt. They came with rice and beans (I asked for no beans), and the rice was only ok - it wasn't bad, it just needed more flavor. For dessert we both ordered the fried ice cream. It was pretty good. The chocolate sauce with the ice cream and the fried tortilla really hit the spot. The service was pretty good, the waitress kept our drinks full and checked on us regularly. My first impression of this place wasn't good, but it ended up being a surprisingly good experience! When I walked in with some coworkers for lunch, the place was absolute chaos... people standing everywhere, no one knowing who to ask for a table, very little room to wait, etc. Luckily, I speak Spanish and was able to flag someone down to help us find a table after about a 10-minute wait. Then we sat down and I was horrified. Their lunch menu was basically what you'd expect from your typical "fake Mexican" restaurant -- hard shells (NOT a thing in Mexico), shredded cheese on tacos, and the only two meat options were chicken and ground beef. I looked across the table at another Mexican colleague and we gave each other an, "oh, no!" look. But then I saw some authentic looking tacos at another table, and I asked the waitress about it... apparently, their lunch menu is not their full menu. Once they brought us the full menu, they had plenty of authentic-sounding items to choose from. I ordered carnitas and carne asada tacos, and they were delicious. The tortillas were soft corn, the meat was perfectly seasoned, and one of the salsas was nice and spicy (the other two salsas weren't as good). Overall, I was happy I tried it, and it's definitely a solid place for Mexican food as long as you don't order from their lunch menu (which is clearly meant for the GM employees just down the road). I'll give it 4 stars because, while it's not their fault that the place is so popular, they could definitely have a clearer process for getting a table and avoid all the chaos. read more

The date and I wanted to grab some food and we were headed to this side of town anyway, so we went the few extra miles to check out this Mexican place. It got tons of good reviews and we figured why not. Walking in only the front section of the restaurant was open for seating. Not that there was a ton of people there (it was not quite dinner and well past lunch) but I found it a bit odd. We didn't see a hostess anywhere and had to wait to be seated for about 4 to 5 minutes before anyone appeared. We both went with the American taco dinner plate which came with 3 tacos rice and beans. Our server was efficient and the food came out quickly. We got three different type salsas, but none of them were labeled so we had to try them all to see which was hot and which was mild. Side bar here as to why I gave this place 3 stars instead of 4. First, we our service was slow throughout our meal from the time we got seated until the time we left. Tremendous lags with waiting to be seated, bringing out our check, retrieving our check, checking in on us. Slower then molasses in the winter. We wanted to go and I literally tried to flag her down at least 2 times before she came back over to our table to get our bill. While the food here was solid and good, the place here seems to be in complete disarray. During our meal, I had to use the ladies room and walked through the closed section of tables to get to the bathroom. While it was mostly orderly, at least half the tables were loaded with boxes and other materials that they seemed to be assembling in over half the back of the restaurant. Literally every other table had some hot mess of stuff on it. It looked sloppy and disorganized and what a waste of space. I mean, if they had one table to roll silverware or something I would understand but this was a good 10 tables of stuff strewn everywhere. I would go back but I'm in no hurry. I know the pandemic screwed everything up but at least clean the place up a bit before seating people! read more

The best Mexican is downtown Detroit/SW, but a 15 min drive was all I could muster tonight vs 30 min. I ordered the chicken and shrimp fajitas. They had good sauces, one mild, one avocado one, and one that was hot. I'm giving this restaurant a 4/5, as they aren't deserving of a 5 IMO, as the chicken was too well done and I asked for very light onions and there were still tons! (I'm not knocking them done cuz of the onions tho). I'd definitely go back and probably try their tacos next. Food seems very authentic and the service was good! read more

We really enjoyed this restaurant with their large menu and fresh food. We tried the queso, chicken fried quesadillas, and the tampiqueña. The queso was very creamy and rich, served with fresh pico and warm chips. The chicken fried quesadilla was unlike any quesadilla we've had before as it was crispy and fluffy with the cheesiest filling! Lastly, the tampiqueña was absolutely amazing. It allowed us to sample a few menu items at once, at a reasonable price. The steak came with a generous serving of caramelized onions, the flauta was crisp and fresh, and the enchilada suiza was great too! We loved the refried beans, topped with melted cheese. The rice, however, was not our favorite. It was slightly overcooked and lacked flavor. It was easy to overlook though as everything else was superb! We dined in and had a nice quiet table but the restaurant was uncomfortably warm. We couldn't tell if there was a/c and it certainly would've benefited them to have even some ceiling fans. While here on business an associate of mine told me about taco Tuesdays and I decided to check it out. Now let's be honest, $1 tacos is cheap and you'd expect cheap tacos but here at Mexico City Restaurant is the total opposite. You can't judge this place by the outside or the Christmas's lights that are hanging in the windows. First let's talk about the chips and salsa. It's always nice to start your meal off with unlimited chips and different types of spicy salsa. My favorite salsa was the spicy one to be honest. Now let's review the tacos... Beef- Well seasoned, very flavorful and it was only $1 Al Pastor- YUMMY! The pork was seasoned correctly and they did include some pineapples which adds some sweetness to the meat. Carne Asada- This was my favorite Taco hands down. All you need is just a squeeze of like on top and you're ready to devour this taco.
