Few weeks ago, we took a drive to visit Burney Falls near Redding, on the way back to the East Bay, we found this restaurant and we're so hungry. There are plenty of parking in this shopping center. The restaurant is very clean and airy, quite a huge place. The price is very reasonable for all the foods that they have. There is everything for any taste, it's like the Newark Buffet near our home. We got the senior discount automatically which was nice, enough for 2 drinks. The soup bar is excellent, seafood soup, hot and sour, wonton soup they're all good. The sushi bar has all the pre-made sushi which are ok. Every buffet, I would try every dish a little to see what I like, I did like the chicken wings, the scallops, salt and pepper shrimps, actually, all the fried dishes are great, hot and tasty. The hot foods come out very quickly as soon as the trays look low on food. I tried all the soups and they're quite delicious. The service is very attentive and quick for a buffet restaurant, everyone is quite pleasant. The dessert and salad bar are plentiful with fresh produce, jello and I love the almond cookies and coffee cakes. It was a hearty meal for us after a long day hiking in the Burney Falls loop. I just dropped my work rental SUV back at the rental place and a friend of mine was gonna give me a ride back to my car. To pay him back I asked him where he wanted to go for lunch, he said that Chinese buffet. OK, I know what place he's talkin about, the Grand Buffet, On Hilltop Drive just off the 5 off of East Cypress exit. East to find and lots of parking. Looks like it's been over 2 years since I was here. The price for lunch now is $17 bucks plus tax and some tip. We get there and the place looks about the same as the last time I was here. They have these big Koi fish that seem to be an attraction near the front. We get seated and drink orders taken. We got here close to opening at 11 am. so all the food was nice and fresh and hot. Don't get here half hour before closing and expect there to be all hot fresh food, it ain't gonna happen. Some of the things I love here are those ribs! Yeah, Chinese can make so damn good ribs! Not Texas style though. Chicken wings are another of my fave here. My friend went wild and ate a ton of food, all kinds of noodles, ribs and wings. I pretty much skipped the carbs and filled up with shrimp, wings and ribs. They even have french fries if you want! Food was barely Luke warm and mostly room temperature. Certain items like the pizza, French fries and things my kids like were rock hard like they had been sitting out under those heat lamps the entire day. We didn't dare try the sushi as it had a weird smell that made us nervous. They took out and no longer have the soft serve ice cream Machine which is a bummer cuz that was my kids favorite part. It was very very over priced and expensive and all 4 of us left completely grossed out and honestly still hungry but had no more money to go someplace else. Huge disappointment. I take my grandsons to the Grand Buffet twice a month. There is a lot of variety for everyone. Standouts are the sushi, various fish & shrimp dishes and salad options. They also have clams. The kids love the chicken, french fries, noodles, pastries and ice cream & I encourage them to include vegetables. Also melons, oranges, jello, pudding, rice & noodles, and soup. They only get 1 star for having a koi fish pond. New cashier and host are rude to customers! They have barely any seafood and charge extra for the little bit that they have. As my family of 7 walked in we were not welcomed with a greeting or even asked how many to be seated. instead we had two employees look up at us and ignore our presence for about 3-5minutes. Some of the dishes are a hit and miss but consistently, the green beans, the chow mein, the fried shrimp, the soups, the desserts, and the salad bar is always great! One of only two buffets in the entire area, "Coco Mongolian" only has ayce for dinner, and costs nearly $19/person not including soda. Their "and Sushi" means you can order sushi, but it's not part of buffet. I called Grand Buffet while I was seated at Coco, and told the Coco waitress I was leaving. Grand Buffet is only $14/person for lunch (including Saturday) AND they have Sushi in their buffet (and the sushi is not stale like you are used to in a hot foods+sushi buffet). Soda is +$2.99 extra. I got just water. LET. ME. TELL. YOU: The water was filtered! I have been sitting for about 39 minutes and have had 3 water refills already. The service is spot on. Even the egg flower soup: up to my standards. Usually not salty enough, but the egg flower soup here was just right. Even the egg foo young! Not stale! Nothing here was stale! Stop in here for lunch. Wasn't sure what to expect with the mixed reviews. Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised. The place was clean, all of the food was hot and fresh looking, and there was a ton of variety. The staff were friendly and attentive and overall we had a fantastic experience. Just a regular Chinese food buffet, no frills, nothing special. This was my first visit in probably 4 years and I remember it being a lot better back then. We went on a Saturday during lunchtime and the place started filling up quickly. There's a pool of koi fish in the front of the restaurant where you can purchase food to feed the fish, might be fun for little ones. The food was decent with your basic Chinese offerings like low mein, Mongolian beef, dumplings, soups etc. Everything I put on my plate was nice and hot. The flavor was incredibly lacking from every dish! They also have a selection of questionable sushi in the back and create your own stir fry. The desserts were very disappointing. Few things I really didn't care for, which is the main reason for the low stars. The crab, these are the small ones that's next to impossible to eat, as it's just a waste of time with little meat. The stir fry shrimp has a very stale taste, maybe the shrimp was frozen for too long or cooked too long? Just didn't have any fresh, tenderness expected. The 4 of us went for lunch mid week. At noon the place was moderately busy. I was pleased to see that. It's a good sign. First thing when we walked in I noticed how clean and fresh it looked. I was expecting the typical vintage decor and atmosphere. There is so much food there. I didn't think I would find so many options for lunch. Everything seemed fresh and all was hot and flavorful.
