Food is delicious, service is fast and staffs are courteous. The inside is small but clean. Our Hawaiian go to whenever on Redding!

Across the parking lot from Safeway sits a Niu Hawaiian BBQ joint. Ha Ha cool looking tiki hut vibe to order from and super nice staff. There's a handful of small tables inside if you want to dine in. We tried a couple menu items to go to vet the place out. Kahlua Pork and Chicken Katsu -8 Kahlua Pork was tender and flavorful. The Katsu was decent but not as crispy or flavorful as I've had. The macaroni salad was aight... French Fries - 4 - High quality fries but cooked at too low of temperature leaving them greasy and not crispy. Chicken Combo -7 BBQ chicken was cooked very well but was a little plain. It's all about those sauces to make the meal tasty. Not bad Hawaiian BBQ but I've certainly had better. I bet there's some options with that Kahlua Pork that could make a good bite!

A quaint little place across from Safeway. Great tasting food and reasonably priced. Garlic chicken was great, loco moco taste like frozen type burger pattie but was alright, spam musubis and chicken katsu were great too. Staff were awesome and accommodated people up to the last service minute. Came from Maui to take our son to Simpson University. This will be his local spot away from home for the next 3 years. Would recommend to all who like local hawaiian themed food..

Family Meal: short ribs, bbq chicken, katsu chicken, rice, and macaroni salad with Spam Musubi.

After a long day of hiking, we were too tired to cook nor dine in anywhere, so we called in for a pickup order. We chose the family meal, which made decision making a lot easier. The family meal ($36.99) comes with rice, macaroni salad, and three choices of meat: katsu chicken, bbq chicken, and short ribs. We also added an order of spam musubi ($4.49) for 2 pieces. The order was ready in 15 minutes and it was a super quick transaction. They also provided plates, utensils and a full bag of condiments. I'm not exaggerating when I say a full bag of hot sauce, soy sauce, katsu and teriyaki sauce. This meal was just enough for a family of four. The meats were a bit skimpy though, but still solid. I definitely needed the katsu sauce to give that extra flavor though. The mac salad was a tad bland, but the rice was soft and fluffy. Overall, the spot isn't quite as good as Ono Hawaiian or L&L Hawaiian, but it's a pretty good option in a city like Redding with not that many food options.

We love the chicken katsu and teriyaki beef plates with double mac and one scoop rice. The kalua pig is good too!

The food quality was really bad. I got a soggy piece of fish, and the chicken was super dry. I don't remember the food being this bad.

Ask the Community - Niu Hawaiian BBQ

Does Niu have Hawaiian Lau Lau?

We unfortunately do not have Lau Lau. We just don't have the equipment or room needed to cook it. We do however have the Kalua Pork which, although different, is also pulled pork if that's what you're looking for.

Sorry we don't have it?

Yes we do.. it's in the safway parking lot next to Lowe's on east Cypress Ave.

Do they have pineapple gravy?

They have pineapple fried rice but I didn't see pineapple gravy.

The hosts were congenial and friendly and took our orders confidently and quickly. My wife and daughters ordered poke bowls and I ordered their Ramen. The Poke bowls were pretty good (in comparison with the Poke spots we have in Sac), and the ladies cleaned their bowls completely. There are three types of Ramen bowls available (Spam, Miso and Seafood), and I selected the Seafood option. It was a standard mix of shrimp, imitation crab, and scallops with fish cake, green onions and seaweed with a miso-like broth. The bowl was pretty solid, the broth could use a bit more flavor. So all in all, it was a solid meal for us. I would give the poke bowls a solid B, and the Ramen bowl a B-. Poke Land is a good place to have Poke or Ramen if you're in Redding. I surmise that there are better Ramen options within the Japanese restaurants around town, maybe better Poke options too. However, this is a good place that does both.

We were seated along the large window overlooking patio seating and the Sacramento River. The views are truly lovely. Our server, MJ greeted us kindly and took our beverage order. I ordered a glass of their House White, which was a 2022 California Chardonnay and was quite good. My partner ordered an iced tea. For dinner we ordered the Ribeye and the Filet, both cooked medium. Our food arrived approximately 30 minutes after ordering. The quality of the beef here was absolutely top notch. Prime beef for sure. This was the best steak I have enjoyed in Shasta County in over 10 years. Absolutely cooked to perfection. My partner's filet was massive. This had to be at least a 20 ounce filet and he enjoyed every morsel. The sides accompanying our mains, mashed potatoes and carrots for him and mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts for me, were fair to good, but not great. The carrots were raw. As in, not only very crunchy but cold all the way through. Mashed potatoes were nice and buttery, but not nearly warm enough. These spuds sat on a plate until the beef arrived. The restaurant was very kind in offering us a complimentary slice of cheesecake since we were celebrating an anniversary. The cheesecake was dense and rich and accompanied by berry sauce and caramel sauce, both of which were lovely. Freshly piped whipped cream and mixed berries and powdered sugar on the dessert plate made for a very lovely presentation, indeed, and was most appreciated. Service the entire meal was excellent. Price for our meals: $135 + $27 gratuity for a total of $162. We have paid nearly as much for a steak dinner elsewhere in Shasta County for a meal that came nowhere close to this. Worth. Every. Penny. Cannot wait to try the Brunch Menu. Highly Recommended.

We were taken care of right away and our food came out perfect and as ordered. We did try the wings, we had the 6 piece wing and we really liked the sauces that came with them. Our favorite however was there mains. They make some great Korean style food. We tried their Fusion Sandwich which is a Crispy Korean infused chicken patty with Asian coleslaw on a super toasted bun. Asian Infused Tacos, you get three and they are served with fried chicken and coleslaw and chopped green onions in fried tortillas. These were great. Also great was there chicken potstickers and spring rolls. We were happy with everything and will be back.

The lady who took our order was friendly, and we quickly scanned through the menu to decide what to get. We originally planned on ordering wings to bring some home for the kiddos, but they were a bit on the pricey side for the amount we needed. That said, they looked absolutely delicious and it's easy to see why this spot is popular for wings. Instead, we tried the taco, which was very saucy but still overall good. The fries were amazing, definitely a highlight of the meal! I also had the teriyaki chicken. The sauce was a bit too strong for my taste, but pairing it with the coleslaw helped balance the flavor nicely. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5. We'll probably be back, and next time we'll go all in on the wings since that seems to be what they're known for.

We ordered a variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and stir fry's. It was surprisingly pricey, but I'm told that they're comparable to other sushi places. As someone that doesn't frequent sushi restaurants, I felt like the amount of food didn't really match the prices. The main reason for removing stars was the service was lacking. We waited for over an hour before any food (we even ordered apps) hit the table. The waitress wasn't on top of keeping drinks full, or even making sure we have silverware or napkins. To make matters worse, the rolls were extremely dry and not enjoyable to eat at all--my kids ended up throwing them away. I called to let them know the order was incorrect, and at first they apologized and offered us a credit. I appreciated that and thought they were making it right. However, just a few minutes later, they called back and said they could no longer honor the credit and would only remake the order if we paid again. I'm honestly disappointed that they would rather lose a customer than stand behind their mistake. Good customer service is about making things right when an error happens, and unfortunately that wasn't our experience. We won't be returning.
